God's Wife Might Have Been Edited Out Of The Bible

| Filed under: Wacky, Tacky & TrueEtc.

Asherah Might Have Been Edited Out Of The Bible

Raise your hand if you knew that God might have had a "wife", and that she might have been edited out of the Bible!

It's true, some researchers and theologists believe that Asherah, a fertility goddess, may have been featured in early versions of the Bible and could have been God's wife.

A historian named Raphael Patai even brought up that ancient Israelites worshipped both Yahweh and Asherah back in 1967, so even though this idea is relatively new, it isn't that new!

Now, Francesca Stavrakopoulou, who might win the Hardest Name To Spell And Pronounce Ever Award, is now a senior lecturer in the department of Theology and Religion at the University of Exeter while dropping knowledge bombs on the theory!

Check it:

What remains of God's purported other half are clues in ancient texts, amulets and figurines unearthed primarily in an ancient Canaanite coastal city, now in modern-day Syria. Inscriptions on pottery found in the Sinai desert also show Yahweh and Asherah were worshipped as a pair, and a passage in the Book of Kings mentions the goddess as being housed in the temple of Yahweh.

J. Edward Wright, president of The Arizona Center for Judaic Studies and The Albright Institute for Archaeological Research, backs Stavrakopoulou's findings, saying several Hebrew inscriptions mention "Yahweh and his Asherah."

So incredibly inneresting!!

Also significant, Stavrakopoulou believes, "is the Bible's admission that the goddess Asherah was worshiped in Yahweh's Temple in Jerusalem. In the Book of Kings, we're told that a statue of Asherah was housed in the temple and that female temple personnel wove ritual textiles for her."

Director of the Bade Museum and an associate professor of Bible and archaeology at the Pacific School of Religion, Aaron Brody, supports the idea that the ancient Isrealites were polytheists.

Wow. We'll definitely have to look into this some more!

This could gain a lot of momentum with more and more research being done on it. It's ALWAYS good to keep an open mind about things, and throw those questions out there!

How do U feel about this theory??

So a fictional character was maybe edited out of a fictional book. Who gives a shit.

  2. 2

It's only relevant if you believe in fairy tales.

  3. 3

It makes you wonder what else has been omitted or added in the Bible for the gain of political and religious leaders. I don't find this interesting, I find it very aggravating because of monks and priests intentionally changing a belief system. I believe women would have a lot easier time if Asherah were left in the bible and it wasn't so testosterone-centric.

  4. 4

I read you everyday, but have never commented on any story. I must comment on this. Of course God has a wife. How else could we be his children?

  5. 5

It isn't so much god's wife being edited out as the ancient pantheon of multiple gods being turned into one for political means.

I agree with the first comment. Unless you believe in fairy tales who gives a shit. But from a purely 'isn't it quaint that people used to believe such nonsense' I find it fascinating. In the same way that Cinderella is a fun story. So is this.

Believe in it or not, for anyone who has ever actually READ the Bible, especially the prophets, it's not really a newsflash that the ancient Israelites were pretty terrible at monotheism.

They got punished every time. And Asherah is not edited out, at all. This is sensasionalist bullshit.

  7. 7

I have a friend who isn't even that religious and I asked him, "If someone had changed, added, or deleted parts of the Bible over the years, do you think God would have stopped him?" And he thought about it and said, "Yes." I think many people still feel God's official "seal of approval" is somehow on the Bible. What about free will?

  8. 8

There's more… they were both secretly getting it on with Lucifer.
Lucifer used to 'dress up' for Yahweh and asked to be called 'Lucy'. When Yahweh found out that 'Lucy' and the missus were doing the nasty while he was playing with his ant farms [aka creating worlds] he was FURIOUS!
He cast Lucy down from the heavens and denied all existence of his wife.
From that point on he satisfied his carnal needs by visiting beings in the worlds he created. We all know how that went.

  9. 9

Only a self-absorbed idiot thinks God isn't real. Read the old testament, it is obvious throughout that the israelites were polytheists. In fact, they were all about the latest fads and would worship whatever new god came along. I pity whoever's faith is "shattered" by these news.

  10. 10

I have heard this in the past but i have never read any truth to it. So if anybody has proof let me know bc i find it interesting. www.weightlossin90.bodybyvi.com

Abrahamic god evolved from a Semitic war/fertility god called Yahweh, whose wife was caled Asherah, goddess of fertility/love. Their equivalents are Ares/Mars and Aphrodite/Venus. Later on, Yahweh absorbed element of supreme Semitic god El. El's name is part of names SamuEL, DaniEL, RaphaEL, MichaEL…

  12. 12

Okay. Having just written by undergrad thesis on this I am shocked to see it on a site like this. Many scholars before Stavrakopoulou have believed this. Patai, Emerton, Lemaire Lepinski, Hadley, Maidman and Ehrlich to name just a few. Stavrakopoulou's book came out in 2010 which is probably why its getting hype. However the truth is that Asherah is all over the Bible and it doesn't take a genius to figure out that she was an important part of the Israelite Pantheon right up until the late Judahite period. There are also many inscriptions, burial inscriptions and votive inscriptions, that give mention of "Yahweh and his Asherah". It's really too bad that this sort of thing is known so well that most scholars or students of religious studies could tell you that the ancient Israelites were polytheists but the majority of people would have no idea what you are talking about, or think you are being blasphemous. I think you would be hard pressed to find a scholar of note who did believe this, at least to some extent.
What I meant by this rant was don't get too excited after learning this. It's not new.

  13. 13

Re: pharmjen – You're an idiot. As a previous poster pointed out, what difference is there between "Cinderella" and "God"? The "Old Testament", as you pointed out may have well been "Grimms Fairy Tales". People, grow a brain.

  14. 14

perez the bible has been edited way to many times, ever played telephone? the bible is the same thing except its a thousands of years old game.

  15. 15

Re: unreal5511 – Yea, exactly. It's so funny actually. "You guys are idiots because the proof about the fairy tale is in the fairy tale book." hahahahahhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  16. 16

The bible was written by men, men who wanted power and control, most of it is fiction.. you tell me.

  17. 17

I find some of these comments hilarious. Just because the bible says so, doesn't make it accurate. I mean, newspapers aren't always accurate and they're written down. There is no proof that god exists.. can anyone prove it??

  18. 18

Re: miss_michelle6 – Your comment will be met with something like "when the rapture comes you will see the light" or some other b.s. I'm very amused by people that criticize facts, yet still believe in fairy tales. My hat is off to you, Miss MIchelle.

  19. 19

Re: unreal5511 – I'd rather believe God DOES EXIST than to believe He doesn't and find out He really does….Prove that He doesn't exist!!!

  20. 20

So what it is all fiction and bullshit anyway. The bible was created and has been manipulated to scare the masses and weak minded people since the day the first words were spoken or written. If some was under the impression that a wife would make things seem more powerful then a wife would have been keep in the narrative. The fact that people have believe in god and really think that there is some kind of higher being and a reason why we exist is laughable. Just lead a good life and treat everyone respectfully and if by some wild chance there is really a god then you should be ok.

  21. sanaa says – reply to this

I was raised mainstream Mormon and we were taught that God has a wife but she is not revealed in the Bible because God is a gentleman and doesn't want people taking his wife's name in vain. This is not part of Mormon doctrine but it came up in various forms in different Sunday school classes.

  22. 22

Re: dirty south – You'll find out when you go to your dirt nap. I love these God fearing people believing there is a "God" when really there is no proof. And don't say refer to the Bible because the Bible was a written piece of fairy tales. Your argument of saying "show me proof there is no God" is hilarious. Look around you.

  23. 23

Oh wow, it breaks my heart to see these comments on here. If a wife was not mentioned in the Bible it means God DID NOT have one. I truly hop you guys see the light soon, cuz hell is real y'all and there's a special marked in there for people who say these things. Truly sad.

  24. 24

People in power will always twist things in their favor and religion is just another form of government. Popes used to get married, but this was changed because when they died the money went to their wives and the church was having none of that! Women were priests at one time also, but again, the men did not like that so that part of history was erased.

  25. 25

Are you kidding me?? Homosexuality is mentioned in the Bible as something that breaks the heart of God (along with other sins like sexual immorality) and you call it homophobic. So you post a story about how someone has found one place where another god was mentioned along side God's name in a temple and write how God had a wife. Even if he did, it doesn't change his thoughts on homosexuality Perez.

  26. 26

Catholics put all of the testaments and books together of the first Bible. subsequent religions took different books out or cut out large portions of books, like the book of Ruth. Just sayin….people pick and choose lots of things involving God and the Bible…

  27. 27

Regardless of whether or not you believe in God, you should inform yourself about what you're reporting on. Asherah is in the Old Testament, mentioned because the Israelites were worshiping her, and not because she was God's "wife" but because the Israelites worshiped whatever gods were popular in other cultures that they had contact with. Most of the Old Testament is the story of God trying to bring the Israelites back to Him and ONLY Him. This is nothing new, so I'm wondering why this is considered a new discovery.
Regardless, I suggest all those people who claim they know what the Bible says to actually sit down and read it. You may be surprised by what you learn. It's not all fire and brimstone. There's actually a lot of love and hope in there!

  28. 28

you guys are so quick to say that the bible is make believe but have you ever actually tried to look into it? understand it? because if you took the time, you would see that it actually makes sense. To be born, and live your life for no purpose, and then die…is that what we were put on earth for? I'm grateful to know that my life has a purpose and i'm not just living for 80 something years or sooner and then die. There is a lot of crap with religion, a lot of hypocrties, i completely know. But as for the Bible, it hasn't been changed. You believe in History Books writted by men, do you not? Were you alive in those time periods from years ago, the time periods that history books talk about? No, but you still believe what is said in them, do you not? I could go on forever (clearly), but my point is don't be so quick to dismiss something you most likely know nothing about.

  29. Corty says – reply to this

This is almost laughable. As you stated "Isrealites were polytheists." Meaning the worshipped multiple GOD's. So why jump to the conclusion that they were married? Because it's controversial and new. Polytheism meant they worshipped multiple GOD's. Each God was believed to provide different things. Maybe Yahweh and Asherah abilities complimented each other which means more people would be inclined to couple those two dieties…….

  30. 30

Please don't believe this. The Israelites were clearly sinful and messed up on several accounts. This is why God made the Ten Commandments. One of them being, "You shall have no other gods before me." Another, "You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them." Deut. 5:7-8

If God had a wife, it would completely nullify the entire Bible. Look at the theology surrounding the Israelites and you will see that God warns them against worshipping other gods.

  31. 31

Re: unreal5511 – I find it interesting that in all your comments about this you still capitalize God's name… anyway - here's the thing folks - you CANNOT argue belief. Period. If I were to believe the sky was purple - and I TRULY believed that, nothing you could show me or 'prove me wrong' with would change that. So, if you believe in God - this isn't going to change that. I believe in God and I believe that there will be and has been a lot that doesn't match up or necessarily make sense but if I do what is right and live my life as a Believer, then I am ok and I can ONLY be sure of myself. I'm not going to try to 'convert the world' bc in the end, I only answer for me. Point being - I believe in God and no one change that. Period.

  32. 32

Having a wife is a humanly need, God created Eve for Adam because he needed a partner. God does not have needs, therefore having a wife is not logical.

  33. 33

Not Uncommon at all. Since the beginning of time men have been so fearful of the power of women that they want to make her less than what she truly is. What's so uncommon about men vanishing the role of women? Look around today they degrade women every chance they get…in movies, in songs, in the workplace and home life!!! This needs to STOP! Women get your power back!!! Pray to Asherah…Yahweh's EQUAL!!!

  34. 34

    Re: unreal5511 – Lol i love u!

  35. 35

What fascinates me is that while so many people are quick to argue that the Bible is false, they are even more eager to jump on the "God had a wife who was edited out of the Bible" bandwagon. What does it matter if a character was removed from a book if the book is already deemed false?

  36. 36

I think if God had a wife, she would have been mentioned in the Bible. Just my opinion.

  37. 37

Oh shit, you guys are going to get all religious on me but I can pretty much guarantee everything I own that whats in our bibles now, was probably not even close to what was in it centuries ago.
Re: dirty south – Prove that god does exist. Yeah..you cant either so dont attack someone on their beliefs. You are probably someone that says other religions gods dont matter because they are named differently. People believe what they want to make themselves have a purpose. Just because we dont believe in it, doesnt mean you dont have to.
Re: B-stizzle – So god had kids without a wife then right? So what you are saying is that god went against his own belief because he believes in marriage before sex. sooooo yeah, i like how your god contradicts himself.

  38. 38

What is fact is that the church has a history of removing women and their power from the bible

Re: tasha.truly – The fact it would be nice for life to have some inherent person doesn't make it the truth. It is up to the individual to give their life meaning.

  44. 44

Re: mortalwombat – "So a fictional character was maybe edited out of a fictional book. Who gives a shit."

You will eat those exact words when one day coming face to face with the Lord before he demands you to flee from his sight to Hell for eternity.

  45. 45

Re: unreal5511 – Looking at your screen name, you are the perfect example of why America is goin to Hell in a hand basket. I guess you're on the right track of not believing it now because this World is headed to a VERY darker place than now and the saddest part about it is lots of people like you will die and realize too late that the Bible is REAL and that GOD has always been here. "Every knee shall bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is LORD forever." I pray that one day you will finally have epiphany and come to your senses before its too late.

  46. 46

    Re: B-stizzle
You say hell is real because a book told you it was. I truly hope you understand that there has been omissions from the bible. There are things that are said and then contradicted in that very same book. I certainly hope that you're not wearing two different fabrics or having pre-marital sex or eating shell fish or any kind of animal that doesn't have split hooves because you'd be up shit creek and about to burn in hell yourself.

  47. 47

"So I guess that makes you a dumb ignorant grown ass woman? Even better bitch."

Spoken like a good little girl. So, I thought your religion teaches tolerance and loving one another?

  49. 49

I think it's interesting, but I've heard it before. Anyone who thinks the Bible hasn't been edited, just look at the 10 Commandments. There are different versions of THAT.

The world would have been very different if Asherah would have been left in.

  50. 50

I'm a religious studies major in college, and this really is not news. Asherah comes from the Ugaritic religious tradition, of which much of Judaism grew out of. While it's possible that Judaism may have started out with the belief that YHWH did have a wife, it was eventually eliminated from creed because of the anti-monotheistic, pro-dualistic connotations of Asherah. One learns this within the first month in an early Jewish studies course, so there must be some new evidence that Asherah was actually included in the early copies of the Hebrew Bible.

  51. 51

  53. 53

As far as I see it, if God had a wife..…God would no longer be able to relate to women because they are no longer created in His image.

…I would be an atheist, because my God is no longer a supernatural being with no sex, gender, or incomparable.

My God, does not need a partner in running this world.
My God, does not need a companion to complete him.
MY God, ain’t no baby daddy. He created babies, daddies and confused, skeptical, theorizing scholars.

  56. 56

    Re: SW33tS3R3NITY27
So because you believe there is a god, that makes you better than me? That's what I'm reading here.
Here's the kicker: I was a missionary, a youth leader, a christian camp counselor and come from a family of devout christians in the baptist sect. I used to believe, obviously. But I decided to do research, on certain things that didn't make sense, which led to other things not making sense. I became open to the truth that christianity is based off witchcraft holidays and borrows from other religions.
Thank you for recognizing that you aren't perfect, but be careful in what you say, for your words are written forever on the internet.

Hello? Everybody with a bit of education knows that the bible is just a small part of what really exists. The early Christians already started to shorten and censored it so that it fits the religious teaching that was believed to be better and right for the people. It doesn't make the bible wrong, though. It's just the start of being a good person.

  60. 60

Re: kidneypie3 – There is nothing that we could say to prove you the sky is not purple?
You believe that if someone has a false belief that there is no way to change this? Oh my dear, that is a depressing way of going through life.

  61. 61

Re: SW33tS3R3NITY27 – You're so right. If you don't follow jesus, you are not worthy. You must follow the ONE true prophet because a book told you to do so and because you "feel it in your heart" and you have "faith" that this is THE way. Spirituality alone is not worthy of God's love because he's up there thinking " Why don't you follow this book that humans wrote".
Now when people show up to the hospital saying that they spoke to God we institutionalize them because we know that THEY are delusional.. but over 2000 years ago they totally actually spoke to God.

  62. 62

Re: SW33tS3R3NITY27Re: sweeeeteeRe: B-stizzle – You lot are throwing your lives away. What makes your religion any more "real" than any of the others? Maybe YOU will be the ones "judged" when you die for following a "wrong" religion. Or maybe (and this is the most likely scenario) you're all mentally ill. I stopped having imaginary friends when I was about 5.

  63. 63

Re: kidneypie3 – You are just proving your ignorance and the fact that you are a blind follower. Even fictional characters that have names are still proper nouns and need to be capitalized. I capitalized your invisible friend in the sky's name just like I would Donald Duck. Does that help you understand?

  64. 64

I have a daughter named Asha so this means I have a new nickname for her! She thinks she rules the world most of the time anyway! :)

  65. 65

Re: SW33tS3R3NITY27 – Are you a "so-called" prophet? You sound like a complete asshole. Telling people their futures? Isn't fortune telling against your so called "Lord"? You're a comedian. Please pull your head out of your ass.

  66. 66

    Re: SW33tS3R3NITY27

I use to be really religious. I read the bible everyday, prayed, went to church, and followed what my pastors told me to do. I have something to tell you - in church, they taught us to "judge not lest thee be judged." and that GOD was the only one who could judge a person. When I read comments like yours, it really makes me remember why I quit going to church. You are just a judgmental, self-righteous, stuck up POS. Do you even know this history of the spread of Christianity? Men went to different countries preaching the bible yet RAPING WOMEN(even young girls), burning towns, destroying lives, etc just for the hell of it. But these were "good Christian men." The whole freaking religion is a big contradiction. Like you probably worship Sarah Palin from the sound of your posts… she's a big contradiction and I believe people like YOU can't believe what you believe on a personal level and let other people believe what they believe. I believe in COEXIST and I DO believe in GOD but not in the way you and all the other religious nutjobs want to BRAINWASH me to. So how about you PRACTICE WHAT IS PREACHED and accept people with 'flaws' in the concept that we are all made in God's image? Or is following your own religious ideals just too much for such a high-and-mighty bitch like you?

  67. 67

BTW: My cracking point of Christianity was when I really started paying attention to the words. It's not all beautiful and love. It's hatred towards MY KIND… WOMAN KIND… any woman who has honestly read the bible front to back and still wants to believe the hatred spewed for women needs a serious re-evaluation of life.

HOW DO YOU KNOW THIS ISN'T HELL?? LOOK at all the stuff around us… for CENTURIES, for the whole time human kind has been on this earth… there has been needless killings, raping, torture, betrayal… the world isn't "going to hell" right now. If you want to talk like that, it's been going to hell since Adam & Eve (Don't forget about Lilith in there, too ;D more woman hating) were out of Eden.

PLUS: No one will ever tell me homosexuality is a sin and be correct. People like to think it's just a recent development… but people have been homosexual for CENTURIES… how about people READ some history instead of just going by what a PRIEST, PASTOR, ETC says is in the bible. Church chooses a few lines and then goes with whatever they want after that… how about you read everything, then read some history books?

  68. 68

  69. 69

Re: kidneypie3 – How very typical, all of these commentors find the need to attack us for telling the truth? Which is only proof of how bad off this World has become already. Pretty soon The Beast will rise and tell everyone to take his mark or get their hands cut off like it says in the Book of Revelations. Smh

Re: unreal5511 – Look, I said it in my post and I'll say it again: "in the end, I only answer for me." I'm not saying anything about anyone else here and my statement about your using a "G" was merely just interesting to me. I wasn't jabbing you OR condemning your or anyone else on this site - I just made the "mistake" of posting my thoughts.. sorry. *rolls eyes*
Re: sweeeetee – Here's a more articulate version of what I meant, it's taken from an article written about politics, and our understanding of them.. "Then we have the curse that is confirmation bias — the horrible brain glitch that makes countless superstitions possible. This is when the brain latches onto and remembers pieces of information that confirm what we believe but dismisses those that don't. The news media can dutifully report 10 straight studies that prove global warming, but then when the 11th casts some doubt, the skeptic can say, "See! I told you the scientists think it's bullshit!"" - Like I said, you can't argue belief bc once you DO, you'll never be able to see eye to eye.

Re: flypunkassflyRe: unreal5511Re: mortalwombat – I want to say it's funny but it is so far from it. Whether you want to admit it or not it is pure Blasphemy to disrespect written Laws that have been established since the begining of time. You guys are faithfully drinking the Koolaide of Satan's puppets in this World (Especially some Celebs) and Mr. Perez himself the embodiment of of the Illuminati Puppet. Spreading lies to the World that GOD was never real and that the Bible is a lie. I am just stating what the Word of GOD says and I really don't mean to judge others OR tell them where they're going. Of course GOD is the only one who knows that answer. I was just saying how funny (or not) it is of the number of people who are choosing to attack simply because we have a "different" belief.

Re: SW33tS3R3NITY27 – How do you really know god exists. Just as I cannot tell you he doesnt exist, you cannot tell anyone that he does. Because a book says so and that is what your parents say? Well your parents told you Santa was real and look how that turned out. Everyone believes what you want and I believe your religion tells you not to judge thy neighbor. Obviously you arent a follower if you cant follow one of the simple rules. Keep your religion to yourself because all it is doing to you is making you a judgmental twat.
Oh and I believe you commented on a post about the Teen Mom girls. Well…she had sex before she was married and you were all for that so you apparently are as much as a sinner as she is because you support her and that is "What your religion says".

I strongly believe in God, and if this article changes your mind about your whole belief system, you really need to slap yourself in the face and wake up. There are and are going to be tons of articles like this trying to disprove God, he even predicted that this was going to happen. I'm not here to bash anyone, or anything like that. I've been a Christian all my life and I'm still learning and reading the Bible because I admit I don't know everything like a lot of people claim to know. But, Seriously? The comments on here are getting redic.

Everyone has a right to their beliefs. How dare you atheists, or whatever you call yourselves, mock Christians yet whenever you feel offended by a Christian, you cry out "Oh, all those Christians are trying to force their beliefs down our throats!!" Are you not doing the same when you mock us and try to force us away from our faith? It is truly sad what Christians have to endure these days. If someone doesn't want to talk about God with me, then I respect that and speak of something else, so why is it that the majority of athiests I have seen go out of their way to mock us? Show us respect and we will do the same for you, or maybe you truly lack morals and guilt.

You know that there is another "t" in inTeresting?

  81. 81

ALOT has been omitted from the bible. All of it for the Catholic church's own purposes. You can call me conspiracy minded if you want, but the omitted gospels are all highly documented.

  82. 82

Re: BitterFox – I'm an athiest and I agree with you 100%. I believe what I want to believe and you believe what you want to believe. I will never try to cram my views on any other person. I fucking hate athiests who go around preaching and bashing anyone that believes in religion and then getting angry because they feel they are being persecuted by religious people. Being an athiest does not give ANYONE the right to be an arrogant, smug person.

  83. 83

How about you read the Da Vinci Code? Since when is this new news? Duh.

  84. 84

When you are making a positive claim like "there is a God!" , YOU need to bring the proof. I could say there's a teapot floating around Mars, that doesn't make it true. I need to bring the evidence because I'M the one saying it's true. Understand? Weird that there hasn't been any evidence of God so far, huh?
And this argument: "Look around you, God is everywhere! It couldn't come from nothing!" is ridiculous and shoots itself in the foot. There has to be a creator? Where the fuck did he come from then? He can't come from nothing, right? Morons. Just because not all people are intelligent enough to understand the complexity of chemistry and physics doesn't mean that they can make up their own explanation.
People are weak. They can't handle the fact that there is no higher power watching over them, and that their life isn't fucking special. Accept that you aren't more important than any another animal, you don't have a damn purpose. You are lucky to be here, life can be beautiful, enjoy it and make the best of it.

I really must point out that anyone who believes in the Bible/God believes in creationism..Which means you also believe that the world was created 6000 some years ago..which also means that you believe that dinosaurs and humans must have walked the earth together to exist. Which basically means your either a lunatic or you have never picked up a science book in your entire life. I may not be able to prove that their is no god. But science has been able to prove using carbon, and radiometric dating that dinosaurs last lived on the planet 65 million years ago..The rejection of dating by religious fundamentalists is easy for them to make, but harder for them to demonstrate. The fossils occur in regular sequences time after time; radioactive decay happens, and repeated cross testing of radiometric dates confirms their validity.

  86. 86

    my continued rant…
The fossil record is fundamental to an understanding of evolution. Fossils document the order of appearance of groups and they tell us about some of the amazing plants and animals that died out long ago. Fossils can also show us how major crises, such as mass extinctions, happened, and how life recovered after them. If the fossils, or the dating of the fossils, could be shown to be inaccurate, all such information would have to be rejected as unsafe. Geologists and paleontologists are highly self-critical, and they have worried for decades about these issues. Repeated, and tough, regimes of testing have confirmed the broad accuracy of the fossils and their dating, so we can read the history of life from the rocks with confidence. Just use your brains people, its a gift and its a shame to see some of you throwing it away. Read, study, learn, approach things with an open mind and you might learn that what you've grown up being expected to believe might not be right. I sure have.

apologies for the double comment, i'm an impatient person.

  89. 89

This is complete and utter bullshit. Stop attacking Christianity, would you? I thought this site tried to report facts, not a fiction story.

Re: Jodie Ní Chonduin – Thank you for being so mature about it all. I'm glad to see that some people still believe that everyone has the right to their own belief. :)

Re: Fenris89 – Exactly :) Love your comment.

  92. 92

Re: PissedAtHomoSapiens – Pretty sure El is a morpheme of or about God, or "Elohim" as they say in Hebrew (you don't say Yahweh, or YHWH, it is not considered correct).

  93. 93

THAT is the key word, folks.
    1) The Bible is a book written by a group of MEN, (quite recently too, with regards to our planet's history) to create a form of systematic worship they could tie into government; one which required its followers to subscribe to a number of rules and a common belief "story" that everyone could memorize. Period.
(It was a subtle form of mind control, actually… tell everyone what THEY believed in, and frighten the hell out of anyone who felt different.)
    2) These men also wanted a system which would enable them to control women and children. Period. Despite the fact that it requires contributions from both a MAN and a WOMAN to make a child, (indicating to ME that "god" & "goddess" are equally important in the act of creation) to make women more subservient, this NEW BOOK would stress that "God" is a man, and that there is NO female counterpart.
(And how could the women object, given that, according to the "BIBLE," they weren't special to God?)
    3) I don't believe in a separate creator "god" or "goddess", one which requires me to call them by name, but I DO BELIEVE that WOMEN have been subjected to a disgusting travesty when it comes to all religion. I suppose it's all to keep us in fear?
"Read the Bible, ladies, even GOD calls you whores."
DON'T EVER FORGET: … MEN wrote that BOOK.
    "God" did NOT. Period.

  94. 94

I feel badly for any person that doesn't have a belief system (not necessarily religious). I don't subscribe to any one because they're all right AND wrong at the same time. Why choose one when they all (even Satanists and Luciferians) mean the same thing?

  95. 95

Okay.. I'm a Christian but I believe that God loves everyone. Gay, straight, whatever. And that he gave us free will because he loves us. He wanted to allow us to choose our own path, even if it wasn't leading to Him. And that is okay. I don't judge you if you don't believe in God, because for a long time I didn't either. As for the Bible, I enjoy the stories but I don't take every bit of it to heart, because for 1. it was written by MEN, not God himself. therefore, some of it was probably screwed up along the way and 2. things are A LOT different in today's world than they were back then and a lot of the things in the bible just are not relevant anymore. Though I love God and I myself have felt His presence and felt as though He were speaking to me when I finally opened my heart to Him, I understand why a lot of people don't. It's because when you're just going through the motions of going to church or you're not going at all, you just aren't open to feeling Him. You have to really devote yourself to it or you'll live forever w/out "proof". Just saying. :D

Re: sanaa – Wow, that's so interesting. I never really thought about anything like this.

  97. 97

Re: Jenki04 – It definitely teaches us not to attack and be cruel to others. In fact, we Christians are instructed to and so we strive to love others as we love ourselves. Mean people who bully like you did make that more difficult. Seriously, she stated her opinion and you attacked and cursed her.

    Christians will pray for you.

  98. 98

Re: Fenris89 – I respectfully disagree with you. I am a believer who was happily married to an atheist. I loved him because the morals he had were genuine and not because he was afraid of the fiery pits of Hell. As someone else said, a Christian doesn't judge others.

Why can't we all just get along?

  99. 99

Re: Fenris89 – So sorry, I left out my point. I like you. I don't care if we share the same beliefs. You made a wonderful point. I love your summation. Yes, aren't we all lucky to be here. And yes, life can be beautiful.
