God's Wife Might Have Been Edited Out Of The Bible

Asherah Might Have Been Edited Out Of The Bible

Raise your hand if you knew that God might have had a "wife", and that she might have been edited out of the Bible!

It's true, some researchers and theologists believe that Asherah, a fertility goddess, may have been featured in early versions of the Bible and could have been God's wife.

A historian named Raphael Patai even brought up that ancient Israelites worshipped both Yahweh and Asherah back in 1967, so even though this idea is relatively new, it isn't that new!

Now, Francesca Stavrakopoulou, who might win the Hardest Name To Spell And Pronounce Ever Award, is now a senior lecturer in the department of Theology and Religion at the University of Exeter while dropping knowledge bombs on the theory!

Check it:

What remains of God's purported other half are clues in ancient texts, amulets and figurines unearthed primarily in an ancient Canaanite coastal city, now in modern-day Syria. Inscriptions on pottery found in the Sinai desert also show Yahweh and Asherah were worshipped as a pair, and a passage in the Book of Kings mentions the goddess as being housed in the temple of Yahweh.

J. Edward Wright, president of The Arizona Center for Judaic Studies and The Albright Institute for Archaeological Research, backs Stavrakopoulou's findings, saying several Hebrew inscriptions mention "Yahweh and his Asherah."

So incredibly inneresting!!

Continued:

Also significant, Stavrakopoulou believes, "is the Bible's admission that the goddess Asherah was worshiped in Yahweh's Temple in Jerusalem. In the Book of Kings, we're told that a statue of Asherah was housed in the temple and that female temple personnel wove ritual textiles for her."

Director of the Bade Museum and an associate professor of Bible and archaeology at the Pacific School of Religion, Aaron Brody, supports the idea that the ancient Isrealites were polytheists.

Wow. We'll definitely have to look into this some more!

This could gain a lot of momentum with more and more research being done on it. It's ALWAYS good to keep an open mind about things, and throw those questions out there!

How do U feel about this theory??

    Re: Waaaahmbulance
Where did I attack and curse her? Being held accountable for one's words is hardly attacking someone if that is what you mean. I found that I was actually quite nice. You're the only person who feels this way about me. Unless there are others in which case I welcome the comments because I know I did nothing wrong.

Re: Fenris89 – I'm not attacking you or anything, btw, but I just wanted to say something. My whole life I sounded just like you, 'where's the proof? blah blah blah.' And you know, I got my proof, but it wasn't when I was thinking like that. I think what you and every other nonChristian needs to understand is that if you are not 100% devoted to God and open to him, then you're not going to have your proof, because he is not going to give it to you unless you give him all of your heart and soul first. So, it's a little pointless to ask for proof when you aren't in the position to receive it.

Re: Jenki04 – Let me quote you here for just a second.. "I became open to the truth that christianity is based off witchcraft holidays and borrows from other religions." Okay. So it's okay to call what YOU believe the "truth" but we Christians are just wrong and stupid? That seems pretty judgmental to me, considering you just bitched out everyone who judged you. You should have written "I became open to the theory.. blah blah blah.." Your beliefs are no more important than ours and vice versa. Everyone believes what they want to believe. And btw, being a youth counselor and all that crap does not mean you were devoted to God. It's called keeping up appearances.

God exist, we didnt come into this world to work, pay bills, party, fall in and out of love, get old, have grandchildren, die, and be forgotten forever. we came because someone powerful loves us, and is shapping us into good people, and those who believe will inherit the golden city, the kingdom, the new jerusalem!
SHALOM to all! May you all have a wonderful day, and spread love and happiness everywhere you go. :)

"the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulnuss, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law."
Did Jehova God have a wife? NO
Did the Jews worship more that one God? YES
Did Jehova God aprove of the Jews worshiping other God's? NO
Jesus bridged the gap between the gentiles and Jehovah God so that we could also unite with God.
Did Jesus have a wife? NO
Jesus was a man with a beautiful and innocent heart and mind, he could of quit or refused to be tortured and killed by the Romans and Jews, but he didnt because he knew his purposed and loved us. Unlike other religions, Jesus Died for us, loved us, and didnt ask for fame, money, furtune, or women.
No need to have huge cathedrals to honer Jesus or Jehovah, humble is best.
Are all "Christians" good? NO, most are two faced liars. But because of that reason, many lose hope and deny the idea of God. I real Christian should be humble, patient, should speak words like honey, quick to help and give, and never hope to recieve. On the topic of homosexuals; Christians should NOT judge, nor should we parade around with hateful posters or comments, we shouldnt even be involved in any political debate or practice that can cause harm to any group of people. If you so strong disagree with something (christian people) pray about it, ask god to give you strength and understanding.

This is utterly STUPID. God isn't a MALE nor a FEMALE. God isn't a living creature, God has NO GENDER. God is NOT A HUMAN, God has not and will never have a WIFE !

While I believe in God, those of you who say he a fairy tail better hope you are right because the first five minutes of hell are the worst because that's when you realize you are there for ever and ever and ever. Good luck to ya!

I never kept up appearances. I was devoted to my faith. I never called anyone stupid. And it is true that christianity borrows from other faiths and both Christmas and Easter are celebrated on days that were celebrated by those who are pagan. It's not a coincidence, it was intentional. It's a documented fact.

Re: Jenki04 – That's true. I'm not doubting anything you're saying. I know that you didn't come right out and say that, but it felt like you were leaning towards that. In the end, we all aren't going to agree on much. And that is totally okay. That's why we have free will to believe as we choose. And I can also understand being devoted and then becoming nondevoted. But I can tell you that, for me, even though you feel like you're devoting your life to God, it doesn't mean that deep deep down in your heart that you are, especially if you doubt a lot. For me, I don't doubt God. The Bible, yeah I doubt some of that. But like I said, I mostly read it for the stories and some of the good wisdom in Proverbs. You can doubt the Bible and still be devoted to God. Plus I have a great, loving, nonjudgemental church that is the highlight of my week, lol. I'm actually getting baptized again this Sunday. So it's totally cool for you to feel the way you do, I'm not hating on that at all. I just wish we could all just be more open and respectful to one another and actually talk instead of arguing and then maybe our country could have a little peace. :)

    Re: tonilynn
I came from a very judgmental church and family. A former youth pastor recently confided to me that I was being gossiped about when I was in high school, nearly 20 years ago. I didn't have a chance, I suppose. I desperately believed. Because I didn't have anything to believe in, I couldn't go on.
Many years later, I left. It's been a long road. I'm happier now, than I was when I was a christian. Many of my friends and of course my entire family are christians. I don't agree with a lot of what they say and you're right that we do have free will to believe in what we believe.
Maybe this was too much information, but I felt the need to explain myself further. I wish you nothing but love.
