Simon Cowell Talks Glee, Says They 'Changed The Rules'

Right on, Simon!

During a recent interview, Simon Cowell spoke up about Glee, and how the show has impacted the record industry:

"If somebody said to me five years ago that one of the biggest pop stars or groups in the world was going to be a glee club, I never would've believed it. What they've done with Glee, I believe, is that they've broken away all boundaries; all shapes, all sizes all mixed together, but it just works."

"It kind of goes against record company thinking… because they like to think in terms of everything's gotta be perfection. But Glee changed the rules and that's part of the reason we are making this show. To prove that actually you shouldn't have rules for talent…It should be, if you're talented or if you're different, you should have a chance to succeed along with anyone else."

We like what you're saying here, Simon! Makes a lot of sense, and we're sure that lots of people would agree with you.

What do U think about Simon's Glee comments?

Glee is a money maker stupid people give into! its ruining the idea of an artist and an original! IT SUCKS!

  2. 2

They didn't change shit. Glee is just a fad. It will die out as well as all the people on that show. If it isn't this over hyped show its that queen that created it thinking he and his show are gods gift to music getting all bitchy if bands don't want their music to be used.

  3. 3

I like the music, but the show's plots aren't the best. I don't really get what he means about the talent though as does he think because some of the people are talented, but not good looking enough or something???

GLEE is glorified karaoke that will go bye bye soon.

hahaha…he ´s just being gay ( not like anyth wrong with it)..
but you have to be one …or a girl - to like it…
otherwise it´s impossible to watch that crap…it´s literally "unwatchable"..

only drama gay Queen like Cowell can exaggerate its "IMPACT" and praise it…gosh

Glee reminds me of what would happen if you took the top 10 contestants from a really bad season of American Idol, and let them act in a television show. They're both glorified karaoke shows. Just because you change the rules, it doesn't mean the outcome is always going to be great.

Let's think about it for a moment, Glee is on..um Fox, American Idol, the show that made Simon a star was on Fox…and oh yeah his upcoming Xfactor is on Fox. Sounds like a triple shill to me. Glee isn't about a real glee club churning out hits. It's an over-produced crap fest where 20-30 something actors/actresses are pretending they are in high school and make funny faces while hamming it up in unrealistic music videos.

i don't get what he's saying, how has glee changed any rules? i'm a huge gleek and this guy is confusing me.

Anything but the extruded formulaic pop pablum they've been forcing down anyone's throats, even if it has to be Glee. Stop MAKING or trying to make hits to the exclusion of unique talents. Let hits come to you. Seek out original artists. Those are the unique acts that people relish. That music is what can go viral just like a random video. Something about it turns people's creative lights on.

Glee hasn't changed anything, except made me realize how fucking stupid American's are… especially those under the age of 21. All Glee is, is KIDZ BOP!!! Its HORRIBLE!

  11. 11

SIMON IS A TOTAL FUCKTARD!!! HE'S A TOTAL KISS ASS FOR ANYTHING THAT GOES VIRAL OR SCORES HIGH RATINGS. HERE'S A CLUE… MAYBE THE AUDIENCE ARE SETTLING FOR MEDIOCRE BULLSHIT THESE DAYS CALLED "TALENT". LORD KNOWS BACK IN THE DAY, A KARAOKE GLEE CLUB WOULDNT DO SHIT. JUS CUZ PEOPLE WATCH MEDIOCRITY DOESNT MEAN IT'S GOOD. COWELL IS A JACKASS. TRUTH!!!!

  12. 12

Not all Americans like Glee. Gee. :P

How many people on this site bashing Glee have ever watched it? The show is a comedy set to music, and very funny. I'm over 40 and I enjoy it for the comedy, as well as the music. If you enjoy comedies give it a try, you may be surprised.

  14. 14

Re: xcalibur – Yeaaaaaaaaaa..He's kinda not bashing it because its on the same network that made him RICH and is also on the same network that will air his show…

  15. 15

jealous much you talentless bitches. What the hell are you doing? oh and could I get a small fries with my order please? Thanks. Now get back to your fryer.

  16. 16

Re: enjoey – So, Exactly why are you associating a perez hilton commenter on a show about a gleek club to be minimum wage fast food workers? That's dumb as fuck. If you were trying to insult peoples intelligence you failed horribly. If it wasn't for fast food workers your fat ass wouldn't get any cheeseburgers. QQ not everyone loves your stupid show and just because someone offers a negative opinion about something/someone doesn't mean they are jealous talentless bitches. Goddamn stab yourself in the ovaries or clip your nuts either or.

  17. 17

is he saying that it is the talent that should matter? YES, OF COURSE! Why cant it be diversity regarding artists/actors..WHY is it, that "sexy" is better than talent? Its totally fucked up…Yay for diversity, embrace you uniqueness…how fucking boring would it be if everybody looks exactly the same…in the same mold..FUCK THAT NO! Glee shows that, that diversity works…to bad, Simon, did not see that before now……

Glee is hilarious! The music and singing are so-so. I liked Season 1 mainly because so many of the songs I liked in the 70s and 80s were covered, but it was the over the top, soap-opera comedy that really got me watching. It's just too funny.

Season 2 isn't nearly as good as Season 1, but it's still funny. My kids love it, too. I get so tired of all the dark crap out there, and shows that used to be good but have really jumped the shark. Right now the kids really like Glee and How I Met Your Mother. And sometimes they cover the songs better than the original artists and sometimes they're terrible. Van Halen's "Jump!" comes to mind. Truly cringe-worthy.
