Italy Not So Keen On Jersey Shore

Jersey Shore Isn't Exactly Welcomed To Italy

Oh man, it doesn't look like anyone but the Italian club scene wants the cast of Jersey Shore anywhere near their country!

The guidos and guidettes of the Jersey Shore have been getting less than stellar thoughts from a lot of sources across the board (we can only guess what the POPE is thinking!) in ol' Italia, but it doesn't seem to be affecting the cast's positive outlook on going.

Here's what's being said about the cast:

"They embody the worst stereotypes of Italians, multiplied by thousands and Americanized."

"[S]licked hair, exaggerated narcissism, boundless love for the family and outlandish eccentricity."

Grasso, a prominent TV critic for the same paper told the Wall Street Journal that he's "afraid" and that "the image if Italy abroad is already weakened."

"The last thing we need."

Wow, not so positive.

And that's not it. This extremely offensive comment was also made:

"When I see this, I wonder whether Osama Bin Laden had a point."

Really?? We can understand some of the other things said (specifically the 'outlandish eccentricity' one), but that's not cool. If anything, they're absolutely harmless distractions for most people, not terrorists. That's inarguably uncalled for.

Be a little more respectful of such a huge tragedy. Plus it's not like they'll be there forever.

Do U think they crossed the line, or are they right on??

WOW ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS?! That last comment was so so so totally inappropriate, uncalled for, and ridiculous. I hate the Jersey Shore a lot. But saying that a terrorist attack on America was justified because of a few idiots on a reality TV show? That's obnoxious and cold hearted. What a fucking asshole. That's one of the most disrespectful things I've ever heard.

  2. 2

Let's hope they get whacked. No more Spoogie, the Constipation, JCOWW or PJ Pauly Doushe.

  3. 3

This Grasso fool is going to get is ASS beat. The Osama comment was so far off base. Thousands of American lives have been expired because of that maniac.

    Someone locate this Grasso fool…….

  4. 4

They and their behavior are an embarrassment no matter what the ethnic origin or country of origin. If we should put them, the Whites of WVa, and the Skins of LA in boot camp for decent, dignified and respectable behavior and not let them out until they know how to act in society.

  5. 5

Going to Italy is a bad idea. The cast does not represent Americans! Jwow and Ronnie aren't even Italian. Send them to LA or somewhere other than Jersey but not overseas!

  6. 6

These people are an offense to humanity.

  7. 7

Either they release Amanda Knox or Jersey Shore will move to Italy permanently

  8. 8

first of all, they are not all italian american, they, meaning the cast of the Jersye shore cast, have different nationalities then italian in their background. And that 'boundless love for family' ? isn't that a GOOD THING? I think that is a misquote, because, Mario, how can THAT BE BAD? AND for the Osama bin Laden had a point, WHAT????? I do not know what they are talking about with bin Laden, but, if Italians are agreeing with Bin Laden on America, we better rethink about whether Italy is really our friend there.

  9. 9

Re: rickraton – Amanda Knox was found GUILTY, so why release her? Because she's cute?
The family of the British girl she helped murder got some closure. Leave this matter alone. Knox is a cold-hearted degenerate, a bully and a self-absorbed spoiled brat. Let her rot in jail where she belongs.

  11. 11

Perez, I cant imagine what you would say if the jersey shore portrayed gays in a bad light. I am 100% Italian and am offended by the way these people portray us on the show and the kicker is, some arent even Italian.

  12. 12

This guy just did more harm to Italy's reputation in one statement than these kids have done in three television seasons.

  13. 13

These people don't represent America, Italy or Italian-Americans as a whole. People need to get over it. They were picked because they're extreme examples of young Jersey-area kids that like to drink and go clubbing, not because they represent a large demographic. Anyone who thinks they are doing any particular group a disservice buy in too much to generalisations.

  14. 14

"If anything, they're absolutely harmless distractions for most people, not terrorists."

No - they are not terrorists but saying that those idiots on the Jersey shore are "harmless distractions" is unbelivably stupid. They are not harmless distractions - the crap on tv is insanely harmful.

  15. Laury says – reply to this

Okay, I know they're a bunch of narcissistic, orange-skinned idiots who give Italians a bad name, but the Osama comment was totally uncalled for. They're not terrorists, for God's sake.

  16. 16

    this comment is disgusting!

  17. 17

I am taking back everything I posted. Should have CHECKED IT OUT. clicked, clicked, clicked and the site the OSAMA comment is from is MTV ITALIAN'S SITE. which is half in english. WHO KNOWS WHO LEFT THE COMMENT. and I checked out most of the comments, and some are bad, some good, some, well, MOST DON'T CARE!!!!!! and maybe you can translate this on Mario-on MTV's site-are they saying Lindsay and Gaga are together?????? Le bisessuali vip, da Lindsay Lohan a Lady Gaga, passando per Megan Fox e Christina Aguilera

  18. 18

Although the events of 9/11 CANNOT and WILL NEVER be justified looking at the foundation of that statement there is empathy for what this person was saying. He/She was merely commenting on the "out of control" nature this country has taken to wearing around like a 12 year old in a new training bra. I remember a time when this country's societal identity was built on questioning authority and challenging the status quo; now more or less our society is a complete joke. It's no longer satisfactory to question and act, now our youth feels the need to revolt with an idiocy that 75% of the media is portraying then justifying. The cycle will catch up with these disillusioned children, the media created them, the media is now coddling them, and soon they will have tread marks on their greased foreheads from the media's new jaguar they bought with the revenue the industry made off of them.

  19. 19

To me it's not offensive and I'm an american. This show is an embarassment to the US. I hide my face in shame that this is what our culture is hypnotized by. These are all trashy people on the show that have no class. Thgey all fuck eachother like animals, they dress like whores. HOW DOES IT GET WORSE THAN THIS? what does the cast themselves consider trashy? They have surpassed all of it. They are rock bottom.

  20. 20

If they were all gay you would say every single statement was appauling Perez. Trying to hard to be nice lately, it's obvious.

Regarding them going to Itali… Clsoe the door on your way out.

  21. 21

Knowing that you always twist things or give incomplete information, I'm going to assume that you're doing it again just to get people stirred up, which I think we all know is the only thing other than Bieber that gets you off. When I see this from a few CREDIBLE sources, I'll react. Until then, because it's coming from YOU, I'm going to file in the fiction section.

  22. 22

    This is disgusting.

  23. 23

hi everyone…i'm italian and i wanted to tell you something from my (and italians guys') point of you…
we don't see jersey shore cast as people that belong to our country (as someone said before me, a lot of them are not even italian), but we don't "hate" them… my brother and me watch them, sometimes, and we always laught out loud! even if their behaviour doesn't represent usual italian guys and girls, they arereally funny… we consider them as something hylarious to watch, as funny "characters"…
and antonio campo dell'orto (journalist) said: the cast has been made in a smart way, becase they are all "good ones". we italians can't identify in them, but we see them as a funny documentary.
this journalist compared jersey shore to the italian big brother, and said they are more realistic because, in the reality, some guys act like ronnie or pauly…in our big brother, instead, everything is already planned to delight the public (justlike some of our politicians do)…
all i wanted to say s that we don't take them seriously, we don't care if they come to italy or not…they are just good to make us laught…

  24. 24

Who are the idiots the dummies on this show or the people who watch them that made them famous in the first place and the people who keep reporting
    everything they say and do?

  25. 25

    Re: jess0441 – True story.

  26. 26

"Le bisessuali vip, da Lindsay Lohan a Lady Gaga, passando per Megan Fox e Christina Aguilera" means "the bisexual vips, from lindsay to gaga, from megan fox to aguilera"….what were they talking about?

  27. 27

The Jersey Shoreline has spread throughout the country and now the World!

  28. 28

I'd first of all like to say that the Osama bin laden comment made was ABSOLUTELY offensive to our country as a whole. Why should that comment be made about a television show, made for entertainment purposes only, correlate to terrorism towards our country? I understand that the cast of jersey shore do not send a good message to the younger demographics, but I think Italy should be worried about being reflected to the world from a reality tv show on MTV.

  29. 29

Are you kidding? Of course the Italians are right on. They have way more class than Americans. These people are pathetic and an embarrassment to America. And they get paid for that?

I'm sick to death of hearing about all these morons every day all damn day. They're disgusting.

  30. 30

And you are quite wrong Perez. They are not harmless distractions. They are teaching young people it's OK to be complete idiots and get paid for embarrasing themselves.

That you believe this is harmless is a reflection of how messed up you are too!

  31. 31

I am Italian and I don't watch this program so I have no clue about that. On another note… do you really think italians can believe that 11/9 was a good thing?!?!? Only because an idiot posted that on some random site? Idiots are everywhere and, yes, even in Italy but not only there!

  32. SS18 says – reply to this

The osama bin laden comment was so uncalled for.
although the cast doesn't provide the most intelligent people, that's basically the point of the show itself, and no one deserves to be directed towards terrorism unless it's a terrorist itself. honestly, this comment is disgusting and outlandish.

  33. 33

They are completely right, The Jersey Shore is all about being that stereotypical Italian. They boast about it but I wonder with they know how bad they are making themselves look. As far as the comment though uncalled for but if you think about it what we air on our 'reality shows' do represent us. Its brutal truth.

  34. 34

Ever been to Italy? There are a lot of jerks. That last comment I am not at all surprised by.

  35. 35

Well, what's appropriate or inappropriate is culturally determined. So, yes from an American point of view the last comment was out of line… the thing is, it wasn't made by an American.

  36. Eizza says – reply to this

BE RESPECTFUL OF YOUR TRAGEDY!! Are you serious Perez! You obviously dont realize how much harm Americans do to other countries without any regard whatsoever. Wow….americans get so touchy over 911 but have a clue about the pain in neigbouring countries for over the harm caused to them by americans. Get real Perez.

  37. 37

@ Serena Loves Mario. Yes they dont represent America, Italy or Italian-Americans as a whole ut neither do they reresent Jersey.I am not even from jersey not even from the USA but i dont believe this crap. I live in jersey with a 12yr old daughter and she knows I dont approve of that behaviour. They are not even from New Jersey. Anyone who believes the crap they do is all about Jersey, then they are gullible idiotts.

  38. 38

you gotta love the Italians, they don't mince words..jesus. I don't agree that Osama had a point, unless he was aiming for a building with the Jersey Cast shore in it, and why not throw in Paris Hilton, Rebecca Black, Lindsay Lohan, Charlie Sheen and the Rock of Love girls.

  39. 39

The last comment was NOT inappropriate AT ALL. This is EXACTLY what terrorist groups think of when they talk about their hatred of the western world and our culture (or lack of). Crap like this tv show. This IS what 'Merica embodies now and this is how the rest of the world see us. Nowhere in that comment did this person say that killing people is justified. Bin laden has said tons of crap about our culture and The Jersey Shore is exactly what he's talking about. This comment is relevant. People don't like it because we're still too sensitive about 9/11 and that's ok.

  40. 40

im keeping my fingers crossed that some Italian mobsters will take them out….

  41. 41

Re: Curiouslittleme – actually Ronnie is half Italian

  42. 42

Yeah they don't represent Americans, Italians or Italian-Americans, but that doesn't change the fact that it's reinforcing negative stereotypes about all three (as the last Bin Laden comment proves).
I'm of Italian decent, living in the UK and I inwardly groan when people make Mafia or WOP jokes to me. I don't really get why Italians are that one ethnic group that is OK to rip on with no PC consequenses.
If a show Perez loved ever offended a Hispanic or Af-Am organization he'd agree with them, but when that Italian-American organization complained about JS he just laughed. Oh well…

  43. 43

wutev fist pump and get the f over it, their comin to Italy bitch!

  44. 44

good god…jersey shore kids maybe a little out there and stupid but these comments should be reserved for people who are true pieces of scum. the wrose things these kids do is BE FILMED while doing the same shit that almost everyone their age does. only difference is that SOME have traces of italian in their blood. only ONE is 100% italian. these people need to lay off because i am hispanic and i see alot of things that make me shake my head at my culture but oh well, i know who i am and what my country respresents and a couple kids partying on the beach and acting crazy will not shame my country!! were stronger than that!!!

  45. 45

He was making a point how vile these people(JS) are, I guess Perez decides what people can irrevantly joke about. There are millions of people out there who do think Americans are disgusting and diserved 9/11, I find that hate disgusting and it makes me profoundly sad. I guess all of you self righteous people should get together and decide what it is ok to joke about. OF the cast of JS wouldn't understand or bother to listen to your argument.

  46. 46

Ugh. You're an idiot. The comment wasn't saying the cast of Jersey Shore was full of terrorists. They meant, maybe Osama Bin Laden had a point about Americans and how idiotic we are. In a way, your stupidy also proved Bin Laden right.

  47. Fosca says – reply to this

the last quote is a total made-up shit! Who did say it? GRASSO? i think you'll be sued for this!

  48. 48

That comment was TOTALLY inappropriate. Completely crossed the line, in an UNFORGIVABLE way. Suggesting that Americans somehow deserve to be attacked and killed by terrorists? Is he human?
By the way, Grasso (asshole). Americans don't consider real Italians to be anything like the "stereotype" that Jersey Shore puts forward. Americans have respect for Italians and their culture. Americans are well aware that the stereotype that Jersey Shore puts forward is pretty much only a reflection of the people ON the show, or live in that particular area of New Jersey. It has nothing to do with Italians or the people of Italy.

  49. 49

"When I see this, I wonder whether Osama Bin Laden had a point."

    LOL, awesome comment!

  50. 50

The sad part is that the ratings for this show were higher this year than ever before.

  51. 51

Americans like to pretend they know everything about the rest of the world; it is easy to see people do not like that at all.

  52. 52

Perez.. the comment was awful… but not because they were comparing them to terrorists.. (being as you misread the comment) but it was truly awful becasue they were insinutating that Osama Bin ladin had a point with targeting our country and conducting terroristic acts because of people like this. basically saying that they see why Osama Bin ladin bombed us.. which is an even worse statement to make then calling them terrorists. RIDICULOUS

  53. 53

From that comment it looks like Osama Bin Laden targetted the wrong country. How disgusting.

  54. 54

I dont think he was calling americans terrorists. We all know Osama wasnt a fan of america and he thinks the west is out of control. I think this is what this italian dude was trying to put across not terrorism. Such a bad comment to use when trying to defend your snookie mario as you know what reaction you will get out of shallow minded ppl. Wht these jersey shore cast to is actually not just something italians do, I see all differnt races and cultures act loud, drunk and out of control at clubs and have fun. let it go

  55. 55

Re: MsJules – They? Who's 'they'? Only one guy said that and he's an idiot

  56. 56

Ok so I'm Italian and I lived in Italy for few months in college to "reconnect with my heritage" and let me tell you, THE MEN ARE EXACTLY THE SAME. In the club-going crowd, they're aggressive, brutish, they will spot with you with laser vision and god forbid you even look at them for longer than a second, hey will follow you around all night. 5 guys in a car followed me and my friends while we walked home for like a mile and when we spotted and told some cops, they laughed at us. THEY DON"T TAKE "NO" FOR AN ANSWER. And if you give any kind of "look" to one of the women, they will explode on your ass. This is obviously not a judgment of the entire country but I'm saying that we ALL have dickheads amongst us. Italians have NO PLACE judging the Jersey Shore crowd (half of whom we all know aren't even Italian!). It's like comparing one piece of shit to another. Totally ridiculous.

  57. 57

Re: Eizza – Harm America does to other countries? Like what? So the help in japan? The President addressing the ongoing civil war in Lybia in his speech tonite? The US deciding to help the war on cartels in Mexico, or the war in Syria? The millions of people welcomed into this country for a better life? Is that what u mean by "harm from americans"? Yes America is not Perfect but if people get "touchy" over 9/11 it is because that attack was a direct assault on everything America stands for. Thousands of people lost their lives. So enlighten me… What "HARM" have we caused to our neighboring countries? Besides sending these idiots to Italy?

  58. 58

Re: Mad Dog – NICE!!!! LMAO!!!!

  59. 59

that comment he made about bin laden was digusting. i hope snooki goes thru italy like a tornado destroying naples and rome.

  60. @v@ says – reply to this

They're the MAD Magazine version of Jersey Italiano.

  61. @v@ says – reply to this

Re: hung37 – I WAS going to buy the new Boy George stuff, but I'm so annoyed with all of your thread-crapping spamming that I'm going to make it a point NOT to now. Do you think people are stupid? You are the equivalent of religious nuts ringing my doorbell at 8:00 a.m. Saturday morning.

  62. 62

wow way way way crossing the line. reading that made me prefer the cast of Jersey Shore to real Italians any day…

  63. 63

ps. how stupid do they really think we are if they believe we think the JERSEY SHORE KIDS accurately portray Italian culture.

  64. 64

One episode of JS taken in just to see for myself. Wow. Congrats to the idiocracy. $30,000 an episode to act like idiots- genius.. Maybe the writer's Bin Laden reference was taken out of context- perhaps wry humour? Regardless, many more lives than the horror of 9/11 were lost in the per suit and fight for our freedom- speech being parcel. His comment is no more distasteful than that which is Jersey Shore. This train wreck entertainment our country is gulping, in my opinion, is much more insidious and damaging than the bin laden boggie man.

  65. 65

harmless distraction????? how stupid are you!!!!!!! perez seriously you sometimes amaze me (not in a good way)

  66. 66

"The last thing we need"… calm your shit down, you have o deal w/ morons for a few months, get over it. try telling the Japanese that, i hear they are having some bad luck too lately, maybe you can compare and contrast your tragedies

  67. 67

i feel sorry for people who try to belittle the cast because of jealousy. the fact that anyone could watch the show and think it represents a large group of people is just pure stupidity. if its not entertaining to you you can change the channel! you know what shows i think should be taken off the air? the one that shows what it's like to have a kid that's pushed into doing beauty pageants by there parents, those parents are terrible people. that is a sickening show, also the real house wives show shows so much worse grown adult behavior than young adults partying. just because they make more money than you doing things you wish you were doing, doesn't mean you should reticule them for having fun.

  68. 68

This comment was how the person feels. no one can say his views are innappropriate. ITS HOW THE PERSON FEELS. Plus, Italy should be allowed to deny them filming the show there! The SHOW is sickening, not because its fake and for fun, but because it's image makes every country sick thinking thats how Americans are!

  69. 69

Wasn't his Osama quote more about American culture and not about 9/11. He didn't actually specify and it seems logical he wasn't saying Osama had a good point in killing thousands of people. So his point relating to American culture makes a lot of sense. Stop being so sensitive.

  70. lolli says – reply to this

  71. 71

Oh wow. This is hilarious. I didn't see this kind of publicity or outrage when AMERICAN people were saying that the Japanese deserved what's happening to them because of Pearl Harbor- which happened fucking years and years and years ago, even though the Japanese have been the American's alis for over 50 years now. Bought like trillions of dollars worth of America's debt and basically helped your economy from going further down into the shitter. But the moment someone makes a negative comment about an American tragedy people go bat shit crazy. Yaknow what, fuck you guys. Americans (most of) are so disgusting and self centered. People are DYING and SUFFERING in another country right now and all you can do is be outraged by a stupid ass little comment. Shut up, just shut the hell up. It wasn't even the person giving the interview who made the comment. It was someone commenting on the Italian's MTV site. Much like AMERICANS went all over CNN's and BBC's websites and made insensitive comments about Japan's tragedy. Get the hell over it. Do unto others..

  72. 72

Re: gossip_queen2011 – #58 you do realize that the Japan tragedy was the least donated to by the Americans? Both by the citizens and the government? I think Canada is helping more than the US is. Get off your high horse.

  73. 73

First part = totally agree, Second part - WTF?!

  74. 74

I thought the embodiment of the worst stereotype of Italians was PM Silvio Berlusconi - they're just a bunch of idiot kids running around the country, he's an idiot running a country…just saying

  75. 75

    I'd Do Chuck Bass:
I'm italian (born and raised in milan) and what you wrote made me sick. Before telling bullshits about an entire nation get yourself an education.
You are probably the usual american-italian or italian-american that put shame on us italians.
Apart from that, the comment of Grasso was completely disgraceful.

  76. 76

I can't believe people take the Jersey Shore so seriously, it's a reality show for goodness sake.

  77. 77

Re: foreignmominjersey – That's why I said "Jersey-area" instead of New Jersey.
