Kate Winslet's Mildred Pierce Off To A Rocky Start

| Filed under: TV NewsKate WinsletOscars

Winslet's Mildred Not Winning In Ratings

Unfortunately for the talented Oscar winner Kate Winslet, just being her and getting some pretty decent reviews hasn't added to the number of people turning out to watch her crack at Mildred Pierce.

HBO miniseries usually garner many more watchers, like John Adams did in 2008.

Sadly, that's not the case for Kate:

Sunday's premiere of the miniseries — based on James M. Cain's 1941 novel about the travails of a Depression-era housewife — delivered just 1.3 million total viewers, according to the Nielsen Co.

We can still be optimistic about it! Maybe it'll gain momentum!

Weirder things have happened!

Hopefully things get better, Kate!

Have U been watching Mildred??

well, to be honest, it's BORING. give me the original movie anytime–a classic.

That's too bad as I've really enjoyed it. As others have mentioned quality television, excellent acting, etc.

    Re: guyonacourt

I love the original too. :)

I love Kate and the acting was great but I'm tired of her doing all these super depressing movies. I wish she would do something fun and light.

Then she opens a restaurant — during the depression, as if that was going to be easier than baking from her apartment. I mean seriously, that was not as simple as they made it out, either. Overall, they made it seem like she made a decision and the doors flew open so she could have it all happen like magic. I was not enjoying that at all. A little reality goes a long way, especially when we are talking about WWII

yes and I will watch again…but OMG that was depressing

It's HBO, Fatback. They repeat stuff over and over. You can't expect better numbers especially when most idiots like you are out there watching crap like Jersey Shore.

I didn't even know it was on. I've been waiting for it. I'll watch it OnDemand right now. It looks good.

    1.3 million total viewers

Er… Isn't that quite a lot of people sitting down to watch a single show?

What more do they want? (This is not a cheap pop ear-candy like glee.)

Maybe because we seen this already in 'Revolutionary Road'. A story about a depressed housewife.

Kate does have her moments, but not her best performance so far. Guy is excellent as her lover/husband. The two girls as her daughters weren't very good. The direction is ok, but lacking. Perhaps it'll pick up later.

Ever since she stopped being fat she started looking really OLD.
what is she now 47? I know 50 year olds that look better than that.

Helical= Hella Cool! If this can't get that poor bastard laid, nothing will!

I watched it and found it very slow depressing and boring the older daughter just seemed to be done badly and just didn't seem believable but you realize they are gonna sex it up a lot when Rachel Evan Wood or whatever her name is steps just like HBO always does … to bet viewers … ew guy pearce is so unattractive

The Joan Crawford movie was perfect! It could carry the melodrama. While I admire how well they recreated the period it seems too slow and too long. The original was able to convey so much in just a few looks.

I am NOT going to watch Mildred Pierce, NO WAY!! The book is excellent and the movie with Joan Crawford is a CLASSIC! The character, Mildred, is an American from California, CAST an American Actress for the role!

It's interesting subject matter, but am purposely avoiding as there's too much bad news out there already. Plan to watch it at another time.
