Mad Men WILL Return…In Early 2012

mad men will return in early 2012

It's been quite the day for Mad Men fans!

First, Mad Men season 4 was released on DVD/Blu-ray today, and now we've learned that despite the fact that AMC and show creator Matthew Weiner have yet to settle on a deal, the show WILL return in early 2012!

Here's what AMC had to say about it:

“AMC has officially authorized production of season 5 of Mad Men, triggering our option with Lionsgate (Mad Men‘s production company). While we are getting a later start than in years past due to ongoing, key non-cast negotiations, Mad Men will be back for a fifth season in early 2012.”

No word yet on whether or not show creator Matthew Weiner will take AMC's $30 million offer to continue with the show.

Sources say his main objection to continuing with the show on AMC is the network's "demands to cut costs and further monetize the show" by "adding a couple more minutes of commercials, product placement and ditching two series regulars."

On the other hand, Weiner's $30 million salary would make him "the highest-paid showrunner in basic cable history." Guess he COULD always take a smaller salary and put some of that money towards the show…

We're just glad to hear that the show will be returning, one way or another.

As we said before, we've been starting to really feel the lack of Jon Hamm in our lives. And no, his minor role in Sucker Punch didn't do it for us!

Are U excited to hear that Mad Men will def return in 2012?

Jesus fucking christ, I HATE studio red tape with all their fucking negotiations and legal department transfers. You motherfucking assholes are destroying your product in tearing it apart like this. Also, if you want to get rid of some one kick John Slatterly the hell out because he and his character sucks and then get rid of Harry. DONE.

It sucks that it is not starting in August like usual, and it sucks that they want to add more commercials. WTF?? How do these people think that making people wait for their product helps anyone? It is bad enough that Breaking Bad took so long this year to come back on, but now they are making it difficult to be a fan of this show. With how many people are cutting cable you would think they would be smart about being competitive.

    Hold your ground, Matt Weiner.
Product placement on this show would be obvious and a real turn-off. They are attacking the integrity of the product. Bert Cooper already departed and Betts fired the maid Carla, so who are they to demand two more characters leave?
@ Cat Attack: Sack Roger Sterling?? Are you kidding? He's gold!
I got used to Mr. Pryce, but if he is to repair his marriage he'll have to go back to London. Heck, I miss some of the characters they already lost (like Sal and the bearded fellow).
No more commercials. Fight, Mr. Weiner, and don't give in. Start negotiations with HBO if you have to.
