It's been quite the day for Mad Men fans!
First, Mad Men season 4 was released on DVD/Blu-ray today, and now we've learned that despite the fact that AMC and show creator Matthew Weiner have yet to settle on a deal, the show WILL return in early 2012!
Here's what AMC had to say about it:
“AMC has officially authorized production of season 5 of Mad Men, triggering our option with Lionsgate (Mad Men‘s production company). While we are getting a later start than in years past due to ongoing, key non-cast negotiations, Mad Men will be back for a fifth season in early 2012.”
No word yet on whether or not show creator Matthew Weiner will take AMC's $30 million offer to continue with the show.
Sources say his main objection to continuing with the show on AMC is the network's "demands to cut costs and further monetize the show" by "adding a couple more minutes of commercials, product placement and ditching two series regulars."
On the other hand, Weiner's $30 million salary would make him "the highest-paid showrunner in basic cable history." Guess he COULD always take a smaller salary and put some of that money towards the show…
We're just glad to hear that the show will be returning, one way or another.
As we said before, we've been starting to really feel the lack of Jon Hamm in our lives. And no, his minor role in Sucker Punch didn't do it for us!
Are U excited to hear that Mad Men will def return in 2012?
