Oh no! This is a terrible development in an already unfortunate situation!
Madonna is currently being slapped with an unfair dismissal lawsuit from former employees of her Raising Malawi charity, now that plans for a new girls school in the country fell apart!
As we reported, the singer was hoping to build a $15 million development near the capital of Lilongwe, but was abandoned once reports surfaced that suggested that there was some financial mismanagement. Executive Director of Raising Malawi, Philippe van den Bossche, quit back in October, and now, the board of directors has been completely dismissed.
Now, however, eight pissed off employees have pressed charges, according to their lawyer, Mzondi Chirambo, who explains:
“Their employment was terminated by the trustees of Raising Malawi Academy for Girls ostensibly following the change of plan not to build the school as planned. My clients are also being forced to sign a discriminatory termination agreement before they are paid their benefits.”
Yuck! What a mess!
In return, Madonna has 14 days to respond to the allegations, but has also reportedly looked into filing a suit against those who caused the plans to collapse.
Such a shame that so much ill-will has come from something that was supposed to better so many young people's lives.
Here's hoping that they don't lose sight of that, and can reach some sort of amicable agreement.
