It may end up being the shortest Harry Potter film, but it sure as hell is going to be the most memorable.

This afternoon, footage from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 was screened for an uber lucky audience at CinemaCon and though we don't have the video to share (yet…), we do have all the details on what was shown. Read on, Potterheads, if you want to know what you missed out on. If not…

WARNING! MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD FOR ANYONE WHO HASN'T READ OR DOESN'T KNOW HOW THE HARRY POTTER SERIES ENDS.

Let us set the scene:

The audience, in darkness, hears a gentle whisper from Lord Voldemort, saying, "Harry…bring him to me." The video comes up and Harry, Ron and Hermione sit across from a wounded Ollivander, the wand-maker, discussing their plans from there.

The scene changes to footage of the trio fighting the white dragon at Gringotts, and Hermione cries, “We can’t just stand here. Who’s got an idea?”

When Ron insists she is the "brilliant" one, Hermione responds by diving onto the back of the beast and gesturing for her comrades to follow her.

The footage cuts again, this time to show the hills outside Hogwarts, manned by Snape and a group of Death-Eaters. Things then take a turn for the sad, as the footage cuts again, this time to scan the halls of Hogwarts lined with bodies, broken and covered in blood. In the distance, Voldemort’s voice says: “You have allowed your friends to die for you, rather than face me yourself. Join me in The Forbidden Forest and confront your fate.”

And that is exact what Harry does. The scene changes and we see Harry striding through the forest…but he is not alone. Joining him on either side are his mother, father, godfather Sirius Black…

“Why are you here, all of you?” Harry demands.

“We never left,” his mother whispers.

“You’ll stay with me?” Harry asks, with clear and definite fear behind the question

“Always,” his mother says.

“Until the end,” adds his father.

The scene changes again to when Harry meets his end at the hand of Voldemort, which most people have already seen from the trailer. But the scene carries on into Harry's afterlife - a bright, white void, where Dumbledore waits for him and greets him with a simple, “You brave, brave man… ” The scene continues as he explains Harry's willingness to die offers him the chance to return and fight again.

In the next scene, Harry comes to blows with Severus Snape in the Great Hall of Hogwarts. He challenges him in front of the entire school, screaming “How dare you stand where he stood! Tell them how it happened that night. How you looked him in the eye, a man who trusted you, and KILLED him!” Fans of the series know this isn't a scene that actually plays out in the book…but it sounds pretty epic all the same.

In the footage's final moments, shots of the final battle unfold and finally, Harry and Voldemort come face-to-face for the last time. “Let’s finish this the way we started,” Harry taunts Voldemort, before grabbing him as they both tumble over a cliff as Harry's voice echoes: “… together… “

Cut to black.

Do U have chills? We have chills! This sounds sooooo suspenseful and emotional. To call back to what Harry said, this series is bound to finish just the way it started - with heart, nerve and just a touch of magic!

We're so so excited! How about U?

This is so AMAZING!!! OMG i cant wait for JULY!!!

  2. 2

this sounds HORRIBLE to me, a very faithful Potter fan. The way you describe it at least, I hope things just don't cut from one thing to the other. There's a lot more things that happens at Gringotts, and have they forgotten all about the Horcruxes??? That's a HUGE plot line. Plus the ending just sounds horrendous. If they're not planning on having any more movies, why wouldn't you end it the way that J.K. wrote it, with a face-off where Voldemort dies?? I will be seeing this movie, but I'm glad I will no longer be going in with such high expectations.

Re: nuthnmuchu – I'm with you. My kids and I have been looking forward to this for years. If it turns out to be this much different from the book, I don't want to see it :-(

  4. Kerrs says – reply to this

is this synopsis an april fools day joke? it's not how the book was written. must be april fools

  5. 5

Re: nuthnmuchu – nooo, in an interview given today the director said they are NOT showing a whole scene, just parts of some scenes heres the quote "Because we’re still very much editing and also still very much doing the visual effects. So a lot of the visual effects being shown here will be very rough, and the footage is still rough. But we just showed some exciting bits and some really good dramatic scenes."

  6. 6

Obvious April Fool's joke. The other scenes sound plausible…not the end. Obviously, if it's true, they didn't show the whole movie…so of course the scenes would jump around.

  7. 7

Re: nuthnmuchu – I'm with you also. HOW CAN YOU CHANGE THE ENDING OF THIS EPIC BOOK SERIES ! It does NOT finish like this in the book. I am pretty much dissapointed in the whole series. They have changed it so much from the book ! Sad.

Re: nuthnmuchu – It says synopsis- obviously they didn't screen the whole movie- pretty sure they just showed clips. The only thing that is drastically different is Harry fighting Snape- I hope they give Snape his time because thats an important aspect in the entire story.

  9. 9

    WAIT WHAT THE FUCK?
    WHERE'S GRINGOTTS? WHERE'S SNAPE'S WORST MEMORY? WHERE'S HERMIONE/RON'S MOMENT? WHERE'S NEVILLE KILLING NAGINI? WHERE'S THE EPILOGUE?
this is ridiculous, and a total bitch move.

Re: nuthnmuchu – DUMMY its a TRAILEr its not gonna show the WHOEL DAMN MOVIE!! of course theyll show what else happens at gringrots!! it was a couple of pages of gringrotts! so it WILL be in the movie quit being such a whiny baby moron.

  11. 11

this was a TRAILEr they are NOT going to include EVERYTHING in the trailer theyd be CRAZY not to add the princes tale AND in teh trailer that has been leaked it shows nevelle WITH the sword that he used to kill nagani SO OBVIOUSLY that happened and OBVIOUSLY they have the full scene at gringrotts!! SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOo. that being said DONT judge the TRAILER if u havent seen the movie and this is teh MOVIE buisness NOT the book buisness their completely different OF COURSE they are gng to change some things if u dont like it OH WELL dont watch them!

  12. 12

Oh my good ness people…Calm yourselves! They showed specific scenes from the movie, not the entire movie. From what was said, this sounds like it is going to be so epic! I am so excited for this movie!

  13. 13

THEY DID NOT SHOW THE WHOLE MOVIE, JUST A COUPLE CLIPS, EVERYONE CALM THE FUCK DOWN

  14. 14

I only read the beginning because I wan't to be not disappointed…
I was wondering how they were going to put Cedric in there.. I guess they decided to leave him out…

  15. 15

WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS. YOU ARE SUCH A DOUCHE.

  16. 16

Re: Turned40 – Oh don't be an idiot. In every film, the script had been true to the book in an abbreviated form. If you are a true fan, shame on you for even reading this. And no, I didn't read it. Because I am a true fan.

  17. 17

ph my gosh oh my gosh oh my gosh oh my gosh oh my gosh!!!! CANT FREAKING WAIT!!!

  18. 18

CANNOT WAIT! :) after all, this was just a sneak peek kind so that's why it had so many cuts. it's not the whole movie yet. there are changes but i trust the makers of harry potter to make this movie epic.

  19. 19

Those quotes… my gosh, I get chills. But what do you mean this will be the shortest one yet? How short is short? hmm..

  20. 20

I didn't think Harry Potter fans could be so naive. They didn't see the entire MOVIE. "This afternoon, footage from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 was screened for an uber lucky audience at CinemaCon"; Key word, FOOTAGE. Not the movie in it's entirety.

And if they did see the entire movie, what's written here is obviously not everything that is going to happen in the film. SMH

  21. 21

Dog gone it! I want to see it now. July is a long time to wait. But, oh well I will be there opening day as always. I hope it really is epic.

  22. 22

What about Ron and Hermoine? the scene with the kiss.

  23. 23

    Cannot wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  24. 24

I read the whole transcript on EW.com, I wish I was so there to see it! It sounds so epic! I'm sad that it's going to be the shortest film in the series, but some critics didn't like the last one because they thought it was way too long. Can't complain now!

  25. 25

PEOPLE WHO THINK THIS IS A WHOLE SCENE FROM THE MOVIE: I don't mean to offend you, but if you would actually read the article it says that it's a synopsis. You can actually tell from reading it that it's a FREAKING TRAILER! They didn't change anything. They just showed bits and pieces, calm down people! Even a Twilight fan could tell you this was a trailer!

  26. 26

Have you guys been drinking from a water bong or are you just THAT stupid? Do you really think that the whole movie is just a series of clips? Can you not read? Footage. FOOTAGE. That means NOT the whole movie. And as far as people being pissed about the ending, that was a joke referring to Thelma and Louise. Jesus Christ people's stupidity amazes me sometimes.

  27. 27

WTF. Coming to blows with Snape and tumbling over a cliff with Voldemort?? I really really really hope this is an April Fool's joke or something…. those scenes both sound terrible. If that is the dialogue between Harry and his family, that sounds pretty dumb too, at least the "why are you here?" "We never left…" The dialogue in the book is simple and poignant, why couldn't they just keep it the same?

Ah well. Guess we'll see in July.

  28. 28

    TOTALLYYYY FREAKIN AWESOME sinopsis :D

  29. 29

it still confuses me how some people dont understand that the films are only BASED on the books no made to follow them word for word.

  30. 30

Guys please read the article properly!

It clearly states they viewed Footage NOT the entire film.

Chillax, we already know they will skip major plot points because they did it in the first deathly hallows.
