Ryan Murphy Apologizes To Kings Of Leon!

ryan murphy apologizes to kings of leon

For a while, it had been well known that there was bad blood between Glee creator Ryan Murphy and Kings of Leon.

Then back in February, Gwyneth Paltrow mediated a truce between Ryan and the band via text messages.

Now, it looks like Murphy has taken further measures to bury the hatchet with the band by publicly apologizing to them:

“I didn’t speak with as much clarity as I would have liked. Who am I to say ‘F**k you?’ That’s not what I meant. I completely understand when artists don’t want a show or another artist to interpret their songs. In fact, I respect it. It’s their personal work and I’d feel the same way. We get turned down all the time and I don’t fight it or even go back after a rejection.”

“I’ve never felt that if you don’t give Glee your music, there’s something diabolical about you. To the contrary: I support artists and what they choose to do…I think Kings of Leon are cool as shit. The Foo Fighters are brilliant. We’d love to do one if their songs, if they were ever interested. But if it’s not their thing, then OK. I personally wish them luck and will still listen to their music."

We certainly give Ryan credit for making such a strong effort to make peace with Kings of Leon.

Hopefully everything will be cool between them from here on out…and who knows? MAYBE one day Kings of Leon will let Glee perform some of their music! Maybe…

Do U think Ryan Murphy made the right move by apologizing publicly to Kings of Leon? Do U think they'll EVER allow him to use their songs On Glee?

I think it was pretty immature of him to act that way in the first place. Just because the show is doing really good and high ratings doesn't mean your the king of tv and everyone should bow at your feet. not everyone with a tv watches this show. i myself hate all the singing. maybe they thought this just wasn't for them. he should of felt this way when they first turned him down. but who knows. never say never.

Great of him to apologize, but these artists were being gigantic dick-bags when they started slamming on a show they'd never watched.

He apologized. I doubt these other two contrarian artist groups will do the same. They have to keep up that "super cool edgy" appearance.

Ryan Murphy acted like a little bitch, so he should apologize to them. It really made him look like a complete fool when he threw his hissy fit. I doubt that Kings of Leon or the Foo Fighters will let Murphy use their music, but it's good that he apologized and acted like an adult about it.

You are so lazy and desperate, you are asking lazy stupid questions just to get a response. They said they don't want a t.v. show to interpret their songs. That is a principle, so nothing about that is going to change. And why are you asking people what they think, about something they could not possibly have any knowledge about? Thinking of you, Perez, reminds me of something Chelsea Handler said about her guests: "The worse the guests are, the more pathetic they are, the funnier the show is." Weren't you a guest on her show, Mario? Don't you realize that it applies to this website. You are like the monkey in the pet store window. I don't know how you can be proud of yourself and your life, considering you sold your dignity for dollars.

I just don't get this GLEE obsession. Who gives a damn what they sing? With billions of songs in existence, there are plenty to choose from.

I think a certain someone realized how big of a dick he was being and how badly he looked, so he's tucking his tail between his legs and apologizing. Actually, he's probably only thinking about how the fueds would affect business with other artists, and he's apologizing to save any future song deals from turning sour or being on bad terms with artists in the music industry that he may want to use songs from. I highly doubt he's apologizing because he feels bad about what he's said. This guy is a class A douchebag.

Re: HarleyDexter – i think u are absolutely right.

  8. 8

Yes, I think he was right to apologize, but they should apologize, too. They were huge assholes about it. If you don't want others to use your music, that's fine, people can respect that. But they not only said "no", but they then went and trash-talked the show, and insulted fans of the show. There was no need for them to be such assholes about it. From what I hear, I guess that's par for the course with them, though. They're enormously arrogant.

Re: JungianQueen – The Foo Fighters and Kings of Leon have no reason to apologize. They did nothing wrong. Ryan Murphy attacked Kings of Leon for "not seeing the bigger picture" and not wanting kids to get more involved with music, just because they don't like Glee and don't want their songs to be featured in a show they don't like. There's no bigger picture, it's a TV-SHOW. Dave Grohl was just supporting Kings of Leon and speaking his mind about this douchebag. And he was 100% right in everything he said.

I'm glad he apologized and he realized that there will always be singers and bands who wouldn't want to appear on GLEE and who wouldn't want their songs sung on GLEE. Fact is, not everyone likes GLEE!

  11. 11

Glee sucks!!!! FOO FIGHTERS and Kings Of Leon rock!!!

Good for him to apologize. No one likes being rejected. But Glee isn't for everyone, so you have to respect the wishes of the artists, just as Ryan Murphy wants to be respected for his work. It is what it is. Good for him.

  13. 13

    Re: Lumie – Exactly

  14. 14

Re: AimeeBee – Kings of Leon only spoke out against the show and everything after Murphy trashed them in an interview

  15. 15

Not everyone is into glee. he should get over it.

  16. 16

    Re: AimeeBee

Exactly. Regardless of his motives, he had the nads to apologize.

We all know the other parties involved won't.

  17. 17

Technically that's NOT an apology!! It's a bit of a recant.

  18. 18

am i the only one who thinks having Santanna sing "The Pretender" by Foo Fighters would be EPIC!!! Sucks that they hate Glee and would never agree to it though….;(

  19. 19

That does not sound like an apology to me, he is just justifying his actions. Anyways, sounds to me like Ryan is a bully himself just like that queen Elton John!

  20. 20

He's still an arrogant asshole with a highly overrated show.

  21. 21

I call bullshit on this "apology". He's running out of songs to make crappy covers on and now he wants to appear like a good guy. That show will be gone in 2 years

  22. 22

it's obvious he just apologized for the bad image that he was starting to get. who cares as long as he just shuts up

  23. 23

So many people here are bashing on KOL when they clearly never investigated the story. Murphy wanted to use Use Somebody in the show. KOL felt it had been over promoted, so they said no. Enter Ryan Murphys bitch fit about how his show is the only thing saving music. KOL never said they'd never do the show (though if it was me, i wouldn't want to work with such a narcissist after watching him not get his way). They never said they didnt want their music to be reinterpreted. They simply didnt want an already overplayed song to get even more air time. It's Dave Grohl and Slash that want nothing to do with the show.
