CBS News Anchor Drama: Couric Out, Scott Pelley For Certain In

| Filed under: TV NewsKatie Couric

So here'e the sitch:

Kate Couric is leaving CBS News. That's a done deal. It's happening. She's bidding the gig bon vovage and she isn't looking back. Now, the real question on everyone's minds is who will replace her. Well, wouldn't you know it, we've got an answer for you!

Turns out, CBS News Chariman Jeff Fager has the perfect man for the job - Scott Pelley, best known for his work as a 60 Minutes correspondent. Scott is very well-respected and has been the Chairman's top pick for the job since it became evident there was a need to replace Katie.

But more so, sources reveal that at the moment, Scott is the only choice the suits have over at CBS, as they can't seem to agree on anyone else as a backup. Scotty is their man.

Which means the only thing left to do is make the transition from Katie to Scott on the show. This has to be handled delicately, however, as the head honchos don't want to offend Katie in hopes that she'll stay with the network to do a syndicated show at the network and "maintain a presence at CBS News." No word yet if Katie has ANY interest in that, however.

You know what might help her decide? $$$ (We hear it talks!)

  1. 1

Katie's leaving the Evening News before they threw her ass out.
Now, why should she care WHO will take her place since she's not coming back anyway?
Scott Pelley is an excellent journalist and news professional. Handsome man and looks like a classic news anchor.
He can still do work on 60 Minutes (he's gotten some really excellent interviews over the last 2 years) and the Evening News. CBS should cut Katie off. She lost her core audience (women) a long time ago after she tried to cut her teeth on Sarah Palin. If someone else wants to pick up Katie, send her on her way. Buh-bye!
