javier bardem closin dark tower deal

Waaaay back in May, we learned that a film based on Stephen King's Dark Tower series was in the works!

Now, almost a year later, wheels are moving, and No Country For Old Men/Biutiful star Javier Bardem is closing a deal to star in the film as gunslinger Roland Deschain.

For those of you who aren't familiar with the character/series, Deschain is "humanity’s last hope to save civilization," and he encounters peril on his way to Mount Doom The Dark Tower!

Fans of Bardem will be excited to hear that the deal he's working on will not only attach him to a trilogy of films, BUT will also attach him to a "TV component" and lots and lots of $$$.

As we've said before, we're not TOO familiar with the Dark Tower series, but we know that it has a fan-base that's totally obsessed! We're excited for them.

Do U think Javier Bardem is right for the lead character in The Dark Tower series?

Being one of those obsessed fans you speak of… I'll say this: Javier Bardem is an incredible actor and I'm sure will do the role justice. But my first pick for Roland Deschain? Far from it. Here's to having a little faith. Long days & pleasant nights.

No no no no no no no no no!!!!! Don't get me wrong, he's a great actor but not for this part!!!

  3. 3

I don't understant shit of what he says, not to be mean I just don't. Not trying to offend anyone

worst casting choice ever. This will prevent me from watching the movie.

  5. 5

I agree!!! This is the WRONG choice for "Roland"! I just do NOT see him as "The Gunslinger"!!!!!! Nothing against his acting, I just see "Roland" and more "Mid-World" (a mix of Old West and Medieval - Sir Lancelot/Pale Rider).

No no no no no no no no no!!!! Not only is it impossible for any script do the books justice, but Javier Bardem is NOT Roland!! I love JB, but no way!!!!

I agree with the above. He is a great actor but I envisioned an actor more like a young CLINT EASTWOOD (especially since King referred to him as the inspiration for Roland). It took me years to read the series and seeing the movie will totally not live up to the world Stephen King has created in my imagination. Don't F**K this up Hollywood!!!!

PS do you think if a enough people wrote in to the production company that maybe they would reconsider? Wishful thinking I know

great actor bad choice for the role

  10. 10

i think mel gibson if he lost a bunch of weight for the role would be amazing, mans a great actor, bad person, but great actor, and would make a terrific roland. think mad max!

No way to JB! When I was reading the series all I could picture was a thin Hugh Jackman!!! He has that swagger about him. And his way of speaking(accent or not) just seems to fit the part. Regardless I will still watch Cause I love me anything "KING".

Re: TheMrsBradPitt – No it wont. If you loved the books then you'll watch the movies….because thats what fans do :)

  13. 13

Viggo Mortensen Should have this role….and if he is not available then Christian Bale! Roland is gritty, thin, tall and badass….. it has to be one of them :)

If he is confirmed as Roland, then I will NOT be ssing the movies or watching the mini series. Javier Bardem is NOT Roland Deschains. Anyone who has read the story would agree. I am not taking anythig away from Javier as an actor, I loved him in No Country for Old Men and in Biutiful, but he is not right for The Dark Tower. I think anyone who has read the books already had a picture of what Roland looks like and Javier is not it! He does not fit the character physcially in any way, shape or form. Roland is described as "Long, Tall & Ugly"…and the only part of that that Javier fits is the "ugly"…not to mention Roland's "Piercing Blue Eyes"!!! I know some people might say that they he can wear contacts to remedy that, but contacts would not make a difference as Javier Bardem is NOT ROLAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What the hell is Richie Cunningham thinking??? I will just keep reading the books when I need my Dark Tower fix….if they cast Javier Bardem, the whole story will be runined for me and that is not something that I want to happen. It is by far the best story I have ever read in my life and I have read a TON of books. If I can recommend any Stephen King story to a non-SK fan, this would be it as I am convinced it would convert them.

Long time Constant Reader and HUGE Dark Tower fan…..and i'm not too bummed by this choice! Um, and let's all assume that Stephan King has plenty to do with casting as this is his BABY! So if it's ok by Stevie, it's okay by me

  17. 17

I cannot understand anything he says either. Not my choice. Once again, something fantastic that King wrote will be ruined by the actors they choose. Perfect for Roland, for me, would be Viggo Mortensen.

  18. 18

Roland is like 18 at most when the story begins. Javier is a really good actor but this is retarded.

  19. 19

You people are crazy. Javier will be awesome as Roland. It shoulda been Scott Glenn back in the day, but I think Javier is rugged and will rock it! Needs to work on that accent though.

  20. 20

Adrien Brody would fit the part.

    Re: retardo81
WHAT!!!! 18??? when it started? No more like 30 to 40. Viggo would be good OMFG NOT Javier!!! He is so nothing at all like Roland. Sorry no offense but he cannot do it with that accent! I have read this series numerous times & I was so looking forward to a movie (even knowing it could never compare) but I will not watch it if they put him in the part.
