So sad. It's hard for anyone to lose a parent, at any age.
Last night, Simon Cowell dug a bit deep during his interview with Piers Morgan and opened up about losing his father, Eric, about 12 years ago. Simon's father passed away of a heart attack at the age of 81, while he was home with his wife and Simon's mother, Julie. Simon referred to it as the "worst day" of his whole life and that his family went through a "horrible, horrible time" after that.
However, though he maybe gone, Eric Cowell left his son a lot of wisdom, some of which Simon shared with Piers. He recalled that his father once told him:
"He said to me - because he was successful, my dad, when he ran his company - he said, 'everybody around you has an invisible sign on their head which says 'make me important.' What I understood from that is that you've got to recognize that everyone around you wants to be recognized, wants to be appreciated. What I try and remember is that when I make a show, everyone has played a part in it. The show is created, truthfully, by 500 people every week."
Sounds like your dad was a smart and generous guy - something he passed on to you, we think. We bet he is really proud of you!
There wasn't much talk about X Factor in his interview, but have a look at the video (above) to hear him chat about American Idol - he's got nothing but praise for his replacements.
