There's been so much speculation behind the Jeff Buckley story, we can't believe that the biopic has actually been given a greenlight!

Brad Pitt had tried for years to develop Buckley's story into a movie, but was met with resistance by Jeff's mother, Mary Guibert.

Looks like Mrs. Guibert has come to a decision though, as the movie will be made, but without Pitt.

Filmmaker Jake Scott, who directed Welcome to the Rileys, will direct the film, which starts production this fall.

So far no word on who will play Jeff, but many names have been thrown around including R-Patz, James Franco, and more.

Who do U think should play Jeff Buckley??

  2. 2

    Re: Alasen

Go stab yourself Alasen. First for posting that. 2nd for now knowing who Jeff Buckley is. Ok he is not the most famous dead singer, but still well known.
3rd, for not looking up who he is on WIKI first, you attention starved moron.

  3. 3

    James Franco ofc.

  4. 4

pattinson not only looks like him, he can sing……………my votes for robby…….

  5. 5

rpattz and jeff are practically twins.
    rpattz all the way.

  6. 6

I'm with Alasen. and dave– shut up. no everyone is a wiki nerd.

  7. 7

    NO ONE.

some people's lives just shouldn't be messed with.
jeff buckley is absolutely one of them.

i'm sure this film will do him NO justice.
    gross.

Re: logindave – /shrug I just looked him up on Wikipedia and still don't know who he is.

  9. 9

STFURe: logindave – STFU! BUCKLEY IS ONLY KNOWN FOR ONE SONG WHICH WASNT EVEN HIS. HE JUST DID A COVER IF IT. LEONARD COHEN'S "HALLELUJAH".

  10. 10

Re: logindave – someones upset that we dont know who his fav singer was……but really though who is he?

  11. 11

Never heard of him, wiki'd him and now I don't care.

  12. 12

wow… its sad that nobody here knows who he is. He was a great artist in the 90's.. you might have heard his song " Halleluja". He died in an accident not to long after.

  13. 13

    Matt Bellamy from Muse

  14. 14

Re: Alasen – Before Lady gaga their were real songwriters and musicians. their is also this thing called a library that has these things called books. You should try one out.

  15. 15

Re: Douche Hunter – Good point. Too bad you fucked it up by not knowing the differance between there and their. Sad. There is also this thing called a dictionary that explains this thing called spelling and grammar. You should try one out.

  16. 16

Re: Alasen – Go google him and just listen…you will never forget. It will touch your soul.
I think James Franco would be amazing.

  17. 17

I love (love, love, love) Jeff Buckley but I don't think there should be a movie about him. He passed away at age 30 after having released one full-length studio album. He died before his story could be told. I think we should let him rest in peace.

  18. 18

Struck a nerve ey. Based on your comments, lots of his fans are a bunch of neanderthals. Sad, when he is known by singing such a pleasant nice song. Here in Europe NO ONE knows who he is, in the US it seems perhaps 10percent know vaguely of him because of Cohen's song. So my comment is right on, there is absolutely no reason for Perez to write an article about his biopic like everyone would know who he is. They dont, ask around and now your friends who might be fans.

  19. 19

R-Patz is such a plain charakter, NO WAY! Heath Ledger would've been the perfect choice, James Franco still the best of those left …

  20. 20

Re: atmospheredesigns – Oh I see a Perez Hilton grammar nazi. Your father must have always corrected you. Good luck with using your business name as your username. How is North Carolina this time of year?

  21. 21

Robert Pattinson could play him well and Rob can sing. But I hear that they want Buckley's voice and the actor will not get to sing, then I don't want Rob to do this.

  22. 22

Re: atmospheredesigns – Oh and dumbfuck…since we are on grammar it is "difference" not differance. What an idiot…nice try to be intelligent though. Move on and go design something.

    23

Franco all the way. He'd be perfect. @Logindave LOL awesome.

  24. 24

Re: Alasen – Oh that makes sense… you like pop music…and base your musical tastes on music charts and who is popular. Thats why you don't get it…

  25. 25

My cousin Ryan wrote the script!!

  26. 26

    aaron johnson or hayden christensen

  27. 27

Robert Pattinson is a natural for this role.

  28. 28

    JAMES FRANCO

  29. 29

    james franco… they look identical!

  30. 30

Re: Douche Hunter – Yeah. You tell these poptart motherfuckers. Buckley had the voice and face of an angel.

  31. 31

James Franco! Just because he looks EXACTLY like him.

  32. 32

This would be perfect for Rob! Hope it happens!

  33. 33

my dad said hes just a nobody that did a cover of a really great song……..so in a way hes no different than Rachel on Glee? HAHHAHAHAHAHAH

  34. 34

Robert Pattinson without a doubt! He can sing and he would bring alot of attention to the beautiful work of Jeff Buckley. Celebrity can be used for good. For those who don't know who Jeff is listen to My Sister's Keeper soundtrack- We all Fall in Love Sometimes.

  35. 35

Love James Franco BUT i think R- Patz will do a great job. He looks like him and can sing…

  36. 36

robert pattinson can actually sing, after hearing james franco sing during oscar rehearsals it is safe to say he definitely cannot sing

  37. 37

Guys, ScarJo did a cover of his 'Last Goodbye' song. That was in the movie Reality Bites, I believe…I think that was his most famous song…..He was from the 90s so a lot of younger people might not care, but if you hear some of his songs, he is pretty amazing. He died, mysteriously I believe, while going for a swim in a lake. His story is really amazing and I hope people get to know about it. :)
I vote R-Patz because I dont know if Franco can sing.

  38. 38

Pattinson would be a dead ringer for him. I'm sure Franco would do a great job also (unless it involves actually singing)

  39. 39

Jeff Buckley is amazing. Love Love Love him and his music♥♥♥ How about R-Patz plays Buckley the superstar and Franco plays Buckley the man. They could both play this multi-faceted artist in the same film. Call me Jake Scott there's more where that came from :)

  40. 40

Re: xcalibur – All his music is epic, and my favorite songs of his are the ones HE wrote!

  41. 41

Re: Douche Hunter – I see my word, grammar nazi is catching on, that will be 10 cents every time it is used, please send royalties to Hell care of Satan.

  42. 42

Re: pie107 – Tell your dad to fuck off!

  43. 43

Re: modaho – whatever movie it was it was most certainly not Reality Bites, was it "He's just not that into you?"

  44. 44

@AynRandy - buckley the superstar, eh? if you're such a fan, you'd know he was never a superstar. of any sort. he frequently played NYC coffee houses under pseudonyms as to say anonymous.
@booklvr - if you think that soundtrack is his best work…? scary.

look people.. either you know him and love him or you don't. it's really that simple.

  45. 45

Buckleys music is beautiful and his voice has an almost haunting tone. I think Rob Patz would do a great job of portraying him.

  46. 46

Re: cagedbird – I have both "Grace" and "Sketches For My Sweetheart the Drunk" I understand he wasn't Jim Morrison, but was an incredible musican and charismatic performer, and has a devoted cult following for good reason!

  47. 47

Rather see a Biopic of Tim Buckley.

  48. 48

Re: modaho – Def not "Reality Bites", maybe "He's Just Not That Into You."

  49. 49

To all the haters - why do you even go to this page and comment if you don't care about Jeff??? And who cares that you don't know Jeff? I probably have no idea who your idols are. And so what? I'm happy that I could read this story on Perez. Jeff was a beautiful person inside and outside and a very talented musician. And he's not only known because of Hallelujah… I started to love his music after I heard the song Grace. I was SPEECHLESS. I wouldn't even care if he didn't record Hallelujah (I don't like Cohen's music that much). Jeff had so many other great songs (written by him): So Real; Lover, You Should Have Come Over; Nightmares By The Sea; Dream Brother… And don't say: NOBODY in Europe knows him! I live in Poland and I LOVE him!!! I have all of his CDs and DVDs, and even bought a few books about him. His songs are still played on the radio here from time to time and he has quite a big fan-base in my country for a musician that had so little promotion! I heard he was also loved in France and GB very much. Listen to his music on YT, you won't regret. James Franco is a funny choice because he, in fact, looks JUST like Jeff's father, Tim Buckley! However, I think he's a better choice that RP.

  50. 50

he looks a lot like Gael Garcia Bernal! plus he's a great actor so he would do him justice :)

  51. 51

Definitely not Robert Pattinson. It would be such a disservice to the memory and talent of Jeff Buckley. James Franco all the way!

  52. 52

I've been a big fan of Jeff for years. His music is amazing and incredibly touching, and his voice is beautiful. He put so much into it. It's a shame his career had to be so tragically cut short. I would love to see a movie made about it, but it also makes me worry that it will be another typical biopic that gets spun around and has a bunch of fillers to make it more interesting. I love James Franco and he definitely has the look for it and he's good at playing that type of character. I also would give Pattinson a shot as well. He definitely has the potential and the look. I'm fine with either choice. If this movie is done right, I would love to see it

  53. 53

DEFINITELY JAMES FRANCO!!! No way anyone else could portray the amazing person that was Jeff Buckley.

  54. 54

Re: xcalibur – shows how much you know- he's actually known for quite a few songs of his… my take is that you are very ignorant to his entire musical collection- hence your quick and hateful words. Jeff was a beautiful writer, who wrote many of his own songs. Ignorance is not bliss.

  55. 55

    Joseph Gordon Levitt please.

  56. tayto says – reply to this

    56

I think either Franco or Pattinson would be do the acting job very well. However, if they are looking for the actor to actually sing…I'd go with Pattinson!

  57. 57

Re: Julia92 – its not that im hating i honestly just wanted to know who the guy was and his "fans" started to get mad, so i got mad and decided to piss them off :)

  58. 58

Re: pie107 – Sorry to say, but dad is an idiot. He needs to listen to the whole album.

  59. 59

Re: chickatees – You are so right. His music is almost haunting, especially since he is gone early.

  60. 60

Guys, look at comparison pictures between Franco and Buckley. I don't know if Rob has the acting chops to pull it off…

  61. 61

I can't believe hardly anyones heard of him.. like really?

  62. 62

Re: pie107 – That sucks that you have a dumb father. Was he in Menudo?

  63. 63

Re: AynRandy – It's actually George Carlin's phrase. He use to refer to his uncle as the Grammar Nazi. He's dead and was old so I doubt you coined it. But keep trying…maybe you will come up with something original someday.

  64. 64

James Franco looks so much like him.

  65. 65

Rpatz to play Jeff Buckley for sure. He can sing and sounds a bit like Buckley

  66. 66

they should get a cooler actor
