Joaquin Phoenix shower do I?

Joaquin Phoenix may star in a film about a religion crazier than his career!

The actor-turned-rapper-turned-fake-documentary-subject-turned-bearded-homeless-man-turned-actor again is in talks to star in director Paul Thomas Anderson's next drama that’s loosely based on the founding of Scientology.

The film, referred to as The Master — although officially untitled — focuses on the story of a charismatic leader named Lancaster Dodd who creates a new religion in the 1950s.

Phillip Seymour Hoffman is said to be attached to play Dodd, while Phoenix may potentially play his main disciple who becomes Dodd's closest follower, then breaks away from him later in the story.

Jeremy Renner was attached to star, but dropped out after being threatened by Tom Cruise on the set of MI4 it appeared that the project had stalled.

Sounds like an inneresting story and a great role for Phoenix to flex his acting muscles once again.

Would U go see this film if it hits theaters?

The OSA ($cilon Gestapo) troops are even now preparing their "mafia like" tactics to FAIR GAME ($cilon code for 'Destroy') anyone involved in this venture.

It's ’cause they don't want THE TRUTH about their sleazy CULT exposed to the General Public.

So it's a science fiction movie then?

He's totally gonna play Xenu. Typecasting.

Good grief, I used to heart this kid … and his brother. *sigh*

Please, please, PLEASE, say something to piss off the Scientologists, Mario. It would be awesome if you were Fair Game'd, and I'm being really sincere when I say this. If anyone deserves to have their life destroyed, it's you.

I'd go see it if there was some reasonable facsimile of star-whacker action included.

I hope Joaquin Phoenix DOESN'T get it. I could just see him joining the cult and never seeing him again. Keep in mind that Joaquin and his brothers and sisters had a non traditional upbringing (think commune, begging …etc.) and I could see him falling into something like that cult.

It's really nice to see that CO$ didn't jump on this! I have to say, it makes me wonder why!?! Maybe they've got him too? I guess we'll see when the film comes out.

Re: iloverickymartin – hadn't considered that! *fingers crossed*
There is enough love in the world, no one needs to jump through hoops to get it!

Perez, I appreciate that you constantly talk about tolerance and acceptance on your website (Demi Lovato, Lady Gaga, and Ricky Martin articles are the most recent ones that I have seen that have asked others to take a second look at these artists and their causes, and see that they aren't trying to harm but are trying to help).

I wonder why the same attitude can't be addressed towards Scientology? I totally and completely understand the crazy media attention, and Tom Cruise in no way helped to promote the religion, but just as one should take 5 minutes to go to Lady GaGa's website and see what she is all about, why can't you/your readers do the same for Scientology? If you take 5 minutes out of your day to go to their website, you'll see its not as crazy as media and Tom Cruise make it to be.

I know I'll get tons of comments telling me to shut up, but have an open mind when it comes to all aspects of life, because not everything the media says is true. You wouldn't go to an anti-Christian site to learn about Christianity right? Just a thought, keep up the good work.

And ps: If you're in LA or Florida, go talk to a real Scientologist–some of the nicest people you will meet.
