Cisco is calling it quits on its wildly popular Flip Cam for what we gather as "no real reason at all."
LOLz, but really. They are stopping production, and confusing people as to why. It must have something to do with not being able to fold the brand into the larger company-self, the one that makes computer networking stuff, or maybe they just don't really like the customers that have been going out and buying it (it's the highest selling camera of its kind.).
Either way, they have no plans to sell the brand, but rather just cease it all together.
An analyst shared our thoughts pretty much exactly:
“There were many opportunities for Cisco to integrate Flip more into its vision of a networked world. The camcorders, for example, never even had Wi-Fi built into them. It was a brand the company had invested heavily in and could have leveraged for all kinds of consumer video experiences — video conferencing, security applications, et cetera.”
The worst part?
550 people are going to lose their jobs now.
We hope they find new work soon! This probably comes as a shock!
Do U have a Flip Cam?
