LOL he is funny!!! I am gonna have to follow him now!! He is only saying what so many know and feel

  2. 2

he isn't allowed his opinion? double standard alive and well.

  3. 3

Glee is a to Much gay…sorry but even My gay friends are saying that

  4. 4

yea thats not funny what so ever. HIV is prevelant in this world and it still is a serious matter so for him to make that comment is just rude. If he made any gay remake but the HIV thing i don't think perez would off had as much to say about it.

  5. 5

He is allowed his opinion..just like you tag your passive aggressive opinion to every post…..just report the gossip, not tag your little mouthy "non bullying" opinion to the end. BTW…I don't agree with him using HIV in that way, but that performance of Le Jazz Hot was the worst yet on Glee.

  6. 6

I consider myself to be "gay youth" and truth be told this show hasn't meant shit to me. To me it just sends out the stereotypical image of how gay usually is portrayed. I can't relate to the gay characters at all.

  7. 7

Bret Easton Ellis is gay himself, so I am more disturbed about why he is linking the show to HIV. He is probably trying to express how much he dislikes the show but chose a pretty poor simile. However, as a fellow gay man, I don't think we should be forced to like anything that is gay related and say how wonderful it is, just because it is gay.

  8. 8

The one thing I have to agree with is Chris Colfer giving him hives. That kid is the worst actor. So grossly over gay and phony in every way. When he won that award I was astonished… That made me think the gay community is quite powerful in the entertainment industry because he truly is a horrible talent less actor. I love the show though!!! I thing the rest of the cast are good! The best is the stupid blonde cheerleader. To me me she is the entire show. Heather right? Love her.

  9. 9

Yay! Team Bret Easton Ellis! Freedom of speech..we are all entitled to our opinion without being scared or cornered into fake apologies. Isn't that what Glee promotes for the gay community so why should it be different for any one else?

  10. 10

he's allowed to give his opinion but that doesn't mean we're gonna leave it at that. He acts like it's no big deal, it's a big deal.

  11. 11

I do not watch GLEE—–but, HIV jokes not classy

  12. H20 says – reply to this

    12

What an idiot, thinking he's HILARIOUS, and you people saying "What so many think and feel" as well as "He isnt allowed his opinion?". HIV is bigger than just a homosexual issue, think of AIDS in Africa, or the many other people affected by it.

  13. 13

He can say whatever he likes as far as I am concerned. It should be noted that as a writer he is a one trick pony.Perhaps he is trying to resurrect his career and sell a few books. He is not and never has been an artist, now a has-been.

  14. 14

Can't he express his own opinions? Use that freedom of speech you seem to take for granted? Stop being a hypocrite and accept people don't alway agree with your sentiments. What does Glee mean to the gay community, a lot of my gay friends hate the show.

  15. 15

SO WHAT! GIVE IT UP PEREZ, ITS A BULL SHIT KIDS TV SHOW!

  16. 16

Bret is a known outrageous satirist. You need to remember this with him, Prez. Besides, there are a lot of gays who don't like stuff like glee because they believe it over emphasizes and re-emphasizes gay stereotypes. I tend to agree.

  17. 17

Shut the fuck up, agree with him or not, its refreshing to see someone say somehting and stand behind it instead of some stupid fucking bullshit apology only after they realize people do like what they say.

  18. 18

posting this is only giving him the publicity and the attention he wants. let him say whatever it is he wants to say and ignore him…
i dont agree with his statement but its not like hes attacking YOU perez

  19. 19

    "shallow, disgraceful and wretched"

yup, that about sums up Glee

  20. 20

The gay stuff on Glee is boring. That's why I stopped watching it. I'd rather laugh at fat people losing weight than gay kids who really have no clue being, well, gay.

  21. 21

I'm gay and happen to agree with him!

  22. 22

HIV is an awful disease and thousands of people die from it every day - this dude is a DOUCHE!

  23. 23

The fact that people are jumping on this as a homophobic comment shows how gay-centric this show has become.
He is talking about gay and straight people having sex with multiple partners. Protection and birth control are never mentioned.

Hey, Ryan Murphy, how about having a "bad" gay character?
Every gay character is a saint, and only straight characters can be mean or spiteful.

  24. 24

It doesn't matter whether he's talking about gay or straight people, his comments were incredibly poor taste. Millions of people are dying from AIDS all over the world and he basically said he's dying because he saw a bad show? What a dumbass.

  25. 25

I don't like Glee but that's f'in horrible to say

    Go to hell

  26. 26

I don't think its funny at all. I've never heard of this guy or his show, so he can enjoy his life in relative obscurity with his prejudice and stupid, hipster, glasses. Besides, what kind of sad human being associates a fun, family friendly, TV show with the worlds most severe disease epidemic. Does he realize that people, little kids, die every day from HIV and those people's family's probably don't appreciate jokes like this? I mean, its offensive (and archaic) to associate gay people with HIV, but it's even worse to actually be that insensitive towards a disease that rips families apart and causes so much pain, suffering and heartache. Its just mean spirited. This is the kind of thing that comes out of the mouth of a sad person.

  27. 27

I don't know who Bret Easton Ellis is but I am now a fan. I hate that stupid show and can't believe people actually watch it. I'd soon enough watch a Two and a half men marathon than watch a 30 minute episode of this trash. "Gay Youth"? What on earth are you talking about? Obviously, you're a fan. There are million of us who are not. He could have used something more appropriate than HIV. I have many relatives that are gay and we are proud of them all. But seriously that is besides the point. GLEE sounds like an Uber gay musical and guess what it is and has dumb as shit story lines. I don't get it, good shows get cut and this pile of dung stays. Unreal. But as far as I'm concerned I'm glad Bret Easton Ellis said it for a larger population to hear. Good for him.

  28. 28

Last time I checked, GLEE wasn't just for the gay community and gay youth.

Also, as a black women, let me remind you that the fastest growing HIV-infected population segment is MINORITY WOMEN, not gay men.

It is unfortunate that GLEE does not encourage safe sex or even explore the potential consequences of unsafe behavior. (Can anyone tell me what happenned to the cheerleader's baby? Anyone?)

Sure, I like GLEE & it's very important message of tolerance and Bret's comments were insensitive but you should be just as up-in-arms about the way GLEE completely fails to address what can happen as the entire Glee club swap partners over & over & over…

  29. 29

i couldnt watch the show. its a stereo type on gay people and the show is way to flamboyant..

  30. 30

Well they do say there's no such thing as bad publicity, and when was the last time anyone talked about this dude lately? I predict a new HIV "joke" every other day from B.E.E. until no one bothers reporting on it anymore!

  31. 31

Who is the illiterate that keeps confusing 'slack' for 'flak'??? When someone cuts you some slack, that's good. When you catch flak, that's bad. FIGURE IT OUT!!!

  32. 32

Bret Easton Ellis is a freaking genius and clearly no homophobe considering, uhm HELLO Rules of Attraction? He is entitled to an opinion. And it's really not that offensive.
I'm a huge Glee fan, but…maybe more of a fan of American Psycho. Patrick Bateman was into good music, too ya know?

  33. 33

Well, this not worse than that Family Guy song about HIV with the barbershop quartet, from a few seasons ago ("You have AIDS, yes you have AIDS"…).

I'm against this whole PC thing of not being able to talk about "touchy" subjects. He's gay and I think he's allowed to talk about AIDS, even if he wants to do it in an uncool, sarcastic way. He probably knows people who have or died of AIDS.

As for what he said well, I also hate Chris Colfer…not hate, strong word, but Im "very much not impressed by him". I don't think his character is very pleasant at all and I think his Golden Globe was more of a political thing.

I hate the way Ryan Murphy writes his character as this sort of "little gay saint" and that everyone in his school loves him and the quarterback is in love with him. And I actually think Murphy is passing a bad message…flaming gay boys like Kurt will think that all this could happen to them, which is very far from the truth. We may understand that Glee is nothing more than a campy fantasy but a 15 year old may take it seriously. It's one thing to give hope…another to give illusions.

And that performance of Le Jazz Hot made me want to crawl under my couch.

  34. 34

who gives a shit what he says about Glee - Glee sucks and they're all getting paid so im sure they'll survive, however, him bringing HIV into the subject is low brow and disgusting. Why dont you focus more on that particular topic instead?!

  35. 35

Maybe he's saying that because of the big drama queen reaction you gave him over his other comment that you (for some fucking reason) thought it was bashing gays. Read your readers comments, tard. Maybe you'll realize how much you overreact. You are a hypocrite and a bully. You haven't changed your judgmental ways.

  36. 36

Re: Rockin69 – Then the 15 year old's parents should be doing their job better to make sure the kid knows that. It isn't television's responsibility to raise children and send out positive messages, that's the job of parents. Television is purely for entertainment, unless it's the news, even though that's also more entertainment based now as well. If a 15 year old gay person sees it and thinks that's how it really will be, then the PARENTS are the ones doing something wrong.

  37. 37

Why isn't he allowed his opinion?. Not everyoe loves Glee I couldn't even make it through one whole episode. It's one of the dumbest shows I've ever tried to watch. While I don't think Aids or Hiv is funny I think this man is entitiled to his feelings and just because they don't match yours doesn't make them wrong.

  38. 38

Good for him! Love when people speak their minds. Glee is shit.

  39. 39

    love him!

  40. 40

This guy has always been a pig, it's fine to not like glee but hiv jokes, what a ****** loser.

  41. 41

Re: Toasty J – Well, Ryan Murphy did make a "bad" gay character, despite how simplistic that label is. People bash the show without watching it, but you know what that's okay, it's television. What is not okay is using your own desperate need for attention to marginalize an entire group of suffering people.

  42. 42

I guess if he is getting "slack" about it from people, they must think it's not that big a deal hmm?

  43. 43

Re: sari674 – definitely, get rid of kurt and give brittany more lines. lol. dont even know why theyre following him at the other school. horrible awful character.

  44. 44

to answer some people's questions: yes there is a 'bad' gay character, you obviously don't watch the show if you don't know he forced kurt out of the school. Also Idina Menzel's character adopted Quinn's baby, something else people would know if they actually watched the show.

  45. 45

I thought his tweets were hilarious.
And this is Bret Easton Ellis - this is what he does. Have you ever read ANY of his books?

  46. 46

That doesn't hold a candle to the nasty's you have dished out over the years of those you found unfavorable. Lets not get to homo-hypocritical

  47. 47

Perez, how could you like his works, yet you didn't get his comments at all? I bet you never really understood his work AT ALL.
I'm tired of the politically correct crap, he has his own sense of humour and it may not be everyone's cup of tea… he's being himself, like it or not.

  48. 48

    Re: ToMaSark
how gays are usually portrayed? You're making this assumption based on what?
I bet you don't even know there are actually 4 gay characters on the show. ;)

  49. 49

For those who have not read BEE, give him a try. Lunar Park. American Psycho. He's brilliant. I don't think he's dated but some of his earlier works might not appeal to new readers. I don't know - but if you don't know who he is - try one of his books and check him out. Meanwhile, whatever about Glee. And really "slack" vs "flak" ??? Get with it!

  50. 50

Well, I doubt he's homophobic because, you know, he's Bret Easton Ellis. And statements like this? They're kind of what he does. Maybe if Miley Cyrus tweeted that it would be a big deal, but Bret Easton Ellis? That's actually sort of mild for him.

  51. 51

Yes the man is entitled to his opinion, the same way we are entitled to say he's a rude classes insensitive douche bag for saying it.
So people saying Perez has a double standard, and he shouldn't be offering up his opinion… criticizing that doesn't make you any different.

  52. @v@ says – reply to this

    52

I think you mean 'he's gotten nothing but flack about it', not 'slack about it.'
Slack means sluggish, slow, moving very slowly or not tight.
Flack means criticism, hostile reaction, abuse among other things.

  53. 53

    FUCK BRET EASTON ELLIS!

  54. 54

Re: Rockin69 – Okay let me get this straight; you're telling me that a gay kid is never going to be popular and people are never going to like them? Do you realise what you're saying? That is spouting so much hate so I'm afraid you've seriously messed up your point. See about 100yrs ago, I'm sure the same thing was said about black people and okay it's not completely resolved…what a horrible thing to say.
Re: Dragonfly76 – They did explore being safe and waiting and stuff in season one if you remember. I completely agree that minority groups are left out on TV shows, but not every TV show can address every issue. This issue just means a lot to Ryan Murphy and the rest of the Glee team and it's good that an issue like this is being brought up.

  55. 55

    So disrespectful…

  56. 56

    gives me the hives too

  57. 57

Okay people. This is Bret Easton Ellis, who wrote American Psycho and many other novels. He doesn't like a part of Perez's Holy-Trinity…. Gaga, glee and Zac Efron… Is anyone else thinking that Perez Hilton is just a bit too much like a pre-pubescent girl?
He is entitled to his opinions just as much as any one. Yes he made a comment in bad taste, but it's his comment to make.

  58. 58

    I'm a Gleek.
    Totally.
    and Bi.

and even I think Glee has gotten WAY too gay.
    WAY.
I don't watch the show for their endless tirade of pop music and Klaine and now Santana is Bi too and Ryan Murphy's push of even more GaGa tribute episodes :\ i watch it cause it's a great show, it's entertaining and i love it.

not everything to do with Glee should automatically be Gay. It's really annoying.

  59. Tasos says – reply to this

    59

He has the right to express his opinion, and there is no law in the USA (yet, at least), against offending people… REALLY offending people.
That said, it was very poor form to joke about a disease, which is very
preventable and still kills far too many people. It is too serious, too tragic
    a matter to joke about.

  60. 60

Re: WhoGivesA-gasp – Ehm, what comes to mind… the gay couple in desperate housewives. That gay character in ugly betty (plus her "nephew"). michael c halls character in six feet under etc.

  61. 61

i think a team of hiv positive men need to gang rape him bareback

  62. 62

he's right! How stereotypical is Kurt?! its sooo lame!! and you really need to shut up!! you have sooo much to say but bash others for having anything to say at all! why do i read this site?!

  63. 63

Brett is a really creepy & a scary person. I have know several young boys he has introduced hard core drugs to. He prays on underage boys!

  64. 64

Just fyi, Perez: Bret has been pretty public about being bisexual and was in a committed relationship with a man for a LONG time. Not to mention, his books have never once strayed away from homosexuality or portrayed them in a bad light. Not everyone thinks Glee is amazing. A lot of us do think it really is just an annoying. My gay roommate has flipped past it and said "That show is just ridiculously gay." Just saying
