Cee Lo Green Says American Idol Has "Run Its Course"

| Filed under: American IdolX FactorCeeLo Green

Ouch! Sounds like he is throwing down a challenge!

In two weeks, Cee Lo Green will widen his fan base even further with the premiere of The Voice, NBC's latest reality show in which Cee Lo and other judges, including Christina Aguilera, will find the next big musical star simply by listening to their singing voices. The concept of "blind auditioning" is really what sets this show apart from others like it and Cee Lo reveals he thinks his show will debut strong and blow its competition out of the water!

In fact, he feels so strongly that The Voice will succeed that he turned down an offer from Simon Cowell to judge on The X Factor! He explained that he was simply "unfamiliar with the concept of The X Factor" and found the platform of The Voice much more appealing. He then added:

"I knew the name and I knew the parties involved, but as an enterprise, I didn't know what made it distinctive enough. Quite honestly, I felt like 'American Idol' and these other entities had run their course."

Whoa! Bold statement, especially considering the buzz for the new X Factor right now is palpable and people really seem to be warming up to Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler on Idol. Still, he might have a point.

Not one that we fully agree with, mind you, but we are looking forward to seeing how The Voice will fair against the more seasoned Idol!

What do U think?

MMMM yeah right!!! this show will be a bust…judging a voice without a 'Look" and "image" Im surprise these fools agreeded to that they know better than anyone it's about image hell you don't even need to be a great singer hello…X-Tina should know that better than anyone…Britney kicks her ass all the time and X-tina is the one with THE VOICE…so Im sure X-tina joined after she saw the comeback JLO got out of American idol. I surely will not watch all the judges but for X-tina who i like are really so so ok, unknown to most folks sooo I will stick to American Idol and will watch X-factor…

Of course he says that. Completely self serving. If not for AI his show wouldn't exist. AI still gets monster ratings even if they are lower than they have been in the past.

I have seen so many promo's by NBC for this pitiful show that I am already sick sick sick of it.

a shame that a talented guy like cee lo has to be involved with either one of these karaoke contests. sad state of music industry. you'd think he could make enough money without one of these "sell-out"shows.

Oh wow, where does he get off being an expert on the state of talent show as of late? Pretty sure we'll never hear music from him again since he's just a one hit wonder. He should be THRILLED he got this gig - it's not like we ever hear from these types again unless they beat up their wife/lover/hooker/kids, etc etc. Develop a drug addiction and we'll see you on Celebrity Rehab 10.

How is this a challenge when it's the truth?!?! I'm sick of American Idol. Time to move on…..

  7. 7

who is this fat piece of shit anyway

  8. 8

No one is going to watch this show. guaranteed it will be canceled quickly. He turned down X-Factor for The Voice?!

  9. 9

I'd laugh if The Voice flops.

  10. 10

The voice won't be a hit. Sorry fatso, but your show isn't going to be a hit!

  11. 11

Yeah who is he but he does have a point only two winners of American Idol actually have a career and a few runner ups. Nobody has ever heard a song from Fantashia but judges were pushing her to win heaps. You don't need to have the best voice to be the most popular singer Rhianna, Katy Perry, Ke$sha and Britney Spears auto tune is the proof of that, but we do need some singers with good voices, all these singers listed above can sing live so some good voices I wouldn't mind.

Re: Ivybby – sure it will flop Xtina is the judge on it everything that she does flops. We may as well cal her floplina lol.

  13. 13

Can't sing live I was meant to say my key board went spastic and call xtina not cal whoops.

where is Pluralism when you need it? why is it whenever anyone debuts a show, they have to run off with the "blow the competition out of the water" speech? it's like, there is room for more than one talent show. it's not major brain surgery, and it's nice to know that soon they will be a few shows like idol. whenever I hear someone talk like this it's a huge turn off.

  15. 15

Miley Cyrus. Katy Perry. Britney Spears. Selena Gomez. Miranda Cosgrove. Justin Bieber. The Jonas Brothers. Taylor Swift.

Would any of these people be on the radio if they were ugly?

I want The Voice to be relevant, really I do. But in today's auto-tuned world, musical talent is irrelevant. Not only does image matter, image is the primary requirement to get signed to a record label.

    Plastic surgery + auto-tune + radio payola = popstar

  16. 16

I seriously think this show is going to flop hard. How many frickin singing shows are we going to have?

  17. 17

is there enough room onstage for both CeeLo and Aguilera? Thats a lot of blubber between them.

not sure just having a voice is enough to create a big star. Even with Susan Boyle it was very much her look and personality that made her such a freak and got her worldwide attention.

If she'd been ordinary looking and 30 nobody would have really noticed. Even with that voice. Looks matter a lot.

Honestly i hate those kind of shows, we have seen it all before!! Having said that THE VOICE is REALLY something good. The judges judge on the voice of the person instead of the looks, be honest how many times have we seen ppl who arent great singers but make it to the live shows because they sing a bit but really have the looks… Here in Holland the show was THE big surprise of 2010 and i'm looking forward to see the american version! Its more honest to judge on a voice in these kind of shows then judge on the looks…

I wish him well, American Idol sucks. I can't watch it any more, the judges are pathetic and offer no constructive criticism at all. All good things come to an end and Idol is over.

  20. 20

i agree with him. idol is stale. a person sings, 3 judges say stuff, ryan seacrest shows his gayface. at least with the voice their are coaches and people there to help them.

  21. 21

I agree with him. For once actual singing ability will be in the forefront instead of EVERYTHING but that. It's interesting how many people diss him and Agulaira. I don't like her but can you really sit there and say with a straight face she ISN'T qualified to give vocal advice and Lopez is. I couldn't say that if I smoked all the meth in the state. I'll definitely give this a shot.

  22. 22

ill def will be watching. I have seen the promos and it looks like they are really involved in the whole process. Atleast these coaches are qualified to be judges/coaches. Seriously Jlo is not a vocalist and should not be the one judging singers.

Re: JETHRO2 – Yes there is room for both just because someone watches one doesn't mean they won't watch the other.
