Rio Wins The Weekend BIG, Scre4m…Not So Much

Better luck next weekend, Sidney Prescott.

The weekend went to the birds as the animated feature, Rio, brought in $40 million at the box-office. Their take landed them the honor of having the best opening of the year, thus far.

Scre4m, however, really disappointed and had to settle for $19.3 million, WAY less than originally predicated.

Whomp, whomp. Where were you this week, Screamers?!

Not many G-rated options + bored families + spring break = animated film

VERY surprised. I went to see Scream 4 opening night and the theatre was packed. It was actually really good! Worth the 11 year wait.

Because the franchise is Tired and Done!! I saw the movie last night and it was not scary at all, very predictable they tried to copy the same format as the origignal and it turned out very cheesy. It was hard to like this new generation too maybe because they were so young. I don't know about Emma Roberts she is to innocent for me and she was in far too many kid movies for me to take her seriously. I was forever a true Scream fan I saw the first one at the movies when I was 14 and owned it on VHS and I must'of watched it like 100 times.

There's no such thing as a "true fan". Grow up.

One of the reasons why it didn't do well is because the third sucked. The only way this will do well is by word of mouth. I thought it surpassed 3 by miles. Was it scary? No. But I didn't really think the originals were scary either. The first half of the movie felt a little off. I don't know why though. By the 2nd half of the movie, it started to pick up and by the last 30 minutes were awesome. I did have an idea about the "reveal" but the way it plays out was pretty damn good so I enjoyed it a lot. But I can understand some people not enjoying it. It's also April. So who knows what the real reason is. I'm surprised they didn't release this last October or this October. Probably because it really isn't all that scary. It's more of a physiological interpretation. One of the things that made it so fun though was the comedy. This one was definitely the funniest out of all of them. I think if it took itself too seriously (esp. with the storyline) than it would have failed. Oh well.

Because the target audience can't get into the theatre to see it w/o parental permission? The people who saw the originals in the theatre were probably taking their kids to see Rio? Or they didn't care because it's been a decade plus? I saw it and was really REALLY disappointed. Best part was Sidney's quote to her cousin (can't even remember the characters name, that's how little impact she had on me): "You forgot one rule about remakes; never fuck with the original."

Re: cmebrkmedwn – from one true fan to another :) the first one absolutely was scary and intense. This was horrible let's face it Wes Craven lost his magic or Hollywod just can't come up with origignal good movies enough with the sequels already!!! I was sitting there waiting for this movie to end bad acting and everything

I'm disappointed that Scream's opening wasn't that great. I saw Scream 4 over the weekend and I've been a big fan of the first three for some time now. Say what you will but I thought that Scream 4 was great overall… I just hope there's enough interest for a 5th and a 6th. Anyway, it's not fair to compare G movies to R movies… G movies are always about big groups and family outings… and movies like Scream always become bigger than themselves ("cult classics") once they're out of theaters… I doubt Rio will be able to say that in 10 years.

Against a kid's movie, you ain't gonna win.
And anyway, who the hell asked for another Scream movie? Most of us who watch scream back in the day have kids now and take their kids to go see Rio.
    .
Not surprised at all. With price of everything going up, the movie dollar is tighter than ever. Waiting for Thor myself.
