Sex Offenders Getting The Boot From Match.com!

Filed under: Icky Icky Poo > Tech Talk

MatchCom

This probably should have been done AGES ago!

Match.com, the very popular dating website, has announce that it will start checking it's users against the registered sex offenders database, and booting off those who are on the list.

Absolutely this will make it MUCH safer for people out there who want to try online dating!

This news comes on the heels of a lawsuit, though, Match insists that their decision was not a direct cause of it. The lawsuit is because of a terrible happening that could have been avoided with a simple background check:

The change in policy came after a California entertainment executive filed a lawsuit last week charging she was sexually assaulted by a man she met through the dating service.

On their second date, the lawsuit charged, the man brought the woman back to her house - and forced her to perform a sexual act.

The victim claimed a simple background check would have exposed the man's past, which her lawyer said included a history of violence and sexual assault.

That's a very horrible, and luckily, very rare thing for Match. We know a bunch of people who the site has worked for without issue (and some people where it didn't work at all), so it's good to know that there will be added protection for anyone who wants to try it out!

Good luck! Hope everyone finds (safe) love!!

Since perez is a pedophile, looks like no match.com for him.

Great idea and I agree, overdue…..I have a feeling predators exist on this website and hopefully all will get the boot….Just another way to protect women, which is very much in need.

Yeah, a simple background SHE should've done before going out with that pig!!
      Yet another frivolous lawsuit.

    4. 4

NO!!! Where am I going to find my next victim, I mean date?!

I feel bad for this woman, but who doesn't do there own background check on a guy there just meeting? I would never assume that a dating website was actually checking up on the thousands of people who join every year. It is up to us ladies to watch out for ourselves and check these men out. Plus even with a check you never know about a guy you just met. Never take some guy to your house after only two dates, even if he's not a rapist he could just turn out to be a loser. Either way he should not know were you live.

if she had met this guy at a coffee shop would she have sued the coffee shop?
while the website should do background checks, its not their fault if youre hooking up with a random you met on the internet.. the internet is full of psychos.

    7. 7

yeah because everyone uses their real name on the internet.

Perez, you really are a idiot. "MUCH safer" huh? I'm sure no registered sex offender EVER considered using an alias….

Most of the comments already posted nailed this. You can't blame Match.com for what happened. It's like blaming the entire internet because sexual predators troll there. Most sensible adults recognize that there is an inherent risk in dating ANY stranger, regardless of where you met them. And any serious-minded predator wishing to use Match in the future can use an alias and a friend or relative's CC to bypass the check.

Too bad they don't have a six sense to weed out the predators that haven't been caught. My sister met a guy of match.com, married him and was 8months pregnant when he ended up being arrested for child porn. scum

This isn't the fault of match.com. This woman should not be allowing this man to even know where she lives on a second date. This is just in life. You have no idea who someone is, or what their past is after two dates. Why would you let them in your home?
