restrepo co director tim hetherington killed in libya

Such a tragedy!

Less than two months after the Academy Awards ceremony, Oscar nominated Restrepo co-director Tim Hetherington has been killed in Libya while documenting fighting between Gaddafi's forces and rebels.

Along with Tim, Getty photographer Chris Hondros is in "extremely critical condition" following a severe brain injury from a mortar attack. Just awful! We hope he recovers.

Here's what ABC News' James Goldston had to say about Hetherington:

"Tim was one of the bravest photographers and filmmakers I have ever met. During his shooting for the Nightline specials he very seriously broke his leg on a night march out of a very isolated forward operating base that was under attack. He had the strength and character to walk for four hours through the night on his shattered ankle without complaint and under fire, enabling that whole team to reach safety."

Such a brave, fearless man whose work has impacted many, many lives. He will be missed.

Our thoughts go out to Tim's family, friends, and peers during this difficult time.

Restrepo is one of the most disturbing documentaries I have seen in a long time. We are sending our children out to die for causes that have nothing to do with us and bringing them back home with PTS and broken families that don't even emotionally recognize them when they return. RIP and thank you for opening our eyes to what our men and women in service must endure for "freedom."

Wow, so sad for a man to die so young while doing his job. My condolences for his family.

Can you say dumbass…..why do these idiots keep going into a war zone and then wonder why they are getting shot at….

at least the military is armed when they go in…..what an idiot

    stupid is as stupid does.

Re: PinkGrl6 – these children are volunteering to join the army…no one is forcing them to join.

stop hating on the military…these men and women choose to defend our country and some do get killed…….be a proud American instead of a douchbag.

ALL you ppl who wonder why he went there well thats simple he thinks the story needs to be told and that it is bigger than him. If not for journalist in Egypt alot of the stuff that was going on would have never been reported. If we rely on news of whats going on from another country, within that country, the leaders may not always tell the truth and most ppl know this. Thank you Tim for giving your life to a story that must be told.
