So sad.

This morning, TV on the Radio announced via their website that their bassist, Gerard Smith, died today after a long battle with lung cancer. They released the following statement to regretfully share the news:

"We are very sad to announce the death of our beloved friend and bandmate, Gerard Smith, following a courageous fight against lung cancer. Gerard passed away the morning of April 20th, 2011. We will miss him terribly."

We're sure all his friends, family and fans feel the same.

Our condolences to all that will miss him.

Sorry for his family and friends.

It was a courageous battle with lung cancer. No one battles LONG with lung cancer. It's deadly.

That's so sad! I just saw him and the band a month ago at SXSW. My thoughts are with him and his family.

Terrible news. They were a ground-breaking group, and Brooklyn and NYC are so proud of them.
    Rest in peace.
