Poetry Man Singer Phoebe Snow Has Passed Away.

This is truly just awful, and so, so sad.

Singer Phoebe Snow, who is probably most famous for her hit 1974 single Poetry Man, died this morning in Edison, NJ at the age of 60 due to complications from a brain hemorrhage she suffered in January.

After her initial success, she gave birth to a girl, Valerie, who was born with brain damage in 1975, and Snow let her career take a back seat as she acted as her daughter's primary caregiver until she passed in 2007.

She said in 2008:

"Occasionally I put an album out, but I didn't like to tour and they didn't get a lot of label support. But you know what? It didn't really matter because I got to stay home more with Valerie and that time was precious."

Hopefully she and her daughter are somewhere, together again in some form, and at peace.

Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with her family, friends, and loved ones.

Very sad. She had a unique voice and wrote cool songs.

I greatly appreciate your sentiments; she probably could have done much more with her career but her love for her daughter was greater and that deserves special recognition.

R.I.P. to an amazing, underrated artist…

She was so gifted. Her "Teach Me Tonight" was sublime.

awwwwww……her main focus was with her daughter and she spoke about her often - she's with her again.

I'm really ill at this news. Loved her vocals and was even listening to some of her music recently. Rest in Heavenly peace, Ms. Snow. **deep sigh**

Blessings to her and her family. I loved her incredible voice. I've never heard a single person that sounded like her.

I saw her in concert in Kansas City, about 1976

    "You're going home now
Home's that place somewhere you go each day
    To see your wife.
From "Poetry Man." I used to love that song just for that line alone. But she had such a great, powerful voice as well. It's a shame she wasn't bigger or more well known, but it was her choice, and I respect her reasons.
    RIP.

Hearing about Pheobe's sacrifice for her daughter caused me to think of my own mom and all the sacrifices she made for all five of her sons. I miss her a lot. Here's to all the unsung moms out there who put others first before themselves! :-)
