Woman Wants Out Of Blagojevich’s Jury So She Can Go See Oprah

If we were the judge, we would TOTALLY accept this as a valid excuse!

A potential juror on Rod Blagojevich’s corruption trial has asked to be excused from her duties because she has tickets to a taping of the Oprah Winfrey show on May 10.

Bet the judge has never heard that one before!

As this is the final season, the Assistant U.S. Attorney Reid Schar came to the woman's defense, especially since this tape date might very well end up being the day they film the final episode, which will air on May 25, 2011.

But so far, the judge hasn't been swayed to let the woman free from her civic duty, saying "everybody here knows that this juror will survive” if she doesn’t make it to the show.

Um, we wouldn't! We would be simply DEVASTATED! This is a once and a lifetime opportunity - literally! This will never happen again.

Have a heart, judge! There's like a billion other people to choose from! This woman isn't the one on trial! Do the right thing!

You may think you are funny, but in one post you are sitting on a high horse calling people Racist, and then you turn around and make a joke about a song that is routed in the pain of slavery on a picture of Oprah. Your rigid views should at least be consistent… or do you feel you are above your own predetermined societal rules?

Once IN a lifetime, Perez. Not and.

That is total bull! He better not let her off for that reason. I feel for her…but tough! I've been on Jury selection and they didn't let a very pregnant woman off, even though she was very uncomfortable….no way man. If he does, then next time, anyone who wants off should reference this instance.

let my people go is unrelated to black slavery in the US. It is biblical: Moses to Pharaoh to release the Israelites. Just saying.

The Oprah Show DOES NOT supercede your civic duty to be on a jury! My sister was not allowed to get out of jury duty for her college FINALS. This woman should not be excused from duty because of Oprah! Sorry, but Oprah is not God, despite what WAY too many people think. I am SO GLAD she is leaving the City - good riddance!

Holy shit, sign of the times indeed. :(

Seriously, if you would be devastated if you could not go to an Oprah show, you really need to reassess your life priorities.

I just served on jury duty and the judge postponed (not excused) a potential juror because he had opening tickets to the SF Giants season opener. It depends on the judge, but since this is a high profile case, I doubt she'll get her wish because the lawyers probably spent a lot of money and time on jury selection.

Re: Marylane – Slavery is slavery, and racism is racism… Whether it was Moses in Egypt or Moses in SC in the Civil war… my point remains the same. He was making a ill timed joke about a hymn about slavery only a few minutes after he called a bunch of people racist.

Re: kabuki girl – Well I don't know how your state works, but your sister most likely could have gotten her date postponed due to her finals. It says so right on the card you receive in the mail that if you are a student and have something very important and school-related going on you can request a change in date.

idk…i think going to the final taping of the show does supersede jury duty. its oprah! people have gotten off with less, let her go - theres more jurors to pick from.

The judge should let her go. A talent like Oprah probably only comes along once every 1000 years if that, and we're entering the final month of her final season. It's insane to force this woman to miss out on something this historic and monumental.

  13. 13

All she has to say is that she thinks Blago is 100% guilty and that she has read hundreds of blogs about it.

  14. 14

There's you're trouble ~ forcing jurors will only fuel their resentment.

This woman might be poor, and what if Oprah gives away thousands of dollars worth of free stuff? I guess she could send her husband or a close relative.

  16. 16

i would say. im gonna say innocent no matter what. so i might be able to be in oprahs last show.
hell on oprahs last show you might be givin a million dollers. or a free house.

or be given a house of gold.
fuck jury duty that could ruin my life.
