Oklahoma State Legislator Makes Horrid Racist & Sexist Comments

| Filed under: Icky Icky PooGay Gay GayPolitikLGBT

We're shocked someone could even have these thoughts, much less express them in a public forum.

Today, the Oklahoma House of Representatives approved a proposed constitutional amendment that would eliminate Affirmative Action in state government. Several state legislators were on hand to support the amendment, including Rep. Sally Kern of Oklahoma City.

You remember Sally, don't you? No? Do the phrases "gay basher" and "hate monger" ring any bells? Well, she's living up to her long-standing reputation as the latter today as she made some horrendous comments to the press about the amendment passing.

In her warped world view, Rep. Kern believes minorities earn less than white people because they don’t work as hard and have less initiative, thus stripping them of the ease of Affirmative Action will make them proactive.

Oh wait, it gets WORSE. She added:

“We have a high percentage of blacks in prison, and that’s tragic, but are they in prison just because they are black or because they don’t want to study as hard in school? I’ve taught school, and I saw a lot of people of color who didn’t study hard because they said the government would take care of them.”

Or maybe they just didn't have a teacher who looked beyond the stereotypes and offered them real opportunities to excel and learn. Ever think about that, Sally? When one of those kids said that to you, did you turn around and offer them some guidance or did you just write them off??? We can only imagine!

Oh, and ladies, don't think she has forgotten about you! She further added that women earn less than men because “they tend to spend more time at home with their families.”

How does their role as a mother and wife even remotely affect their role at their job? How is it any different than being a father and husband? And what about the single mothers out there? Do they work any less diligently because they have a family to feed? This is 2011, lady! There are more women than EVER who are the breadwinners in their households. Did you take that into account at all?!

You disgust us. You're a narrow-minded, homophobic, sexist bigot and we feel sorry that the people of Oklahoma have you as a representative.

    Stupid cun*t.

  2. 2

Back to add: I'm sure there will be plenty of assholes on this board who see nothing wrong with what she said.

  3. 3

I bet she makes her lesbian girlfriend angry.

  4. 4

Another case of skewing statistics to defend a preconceived bias. Just like the so called statistics that say that the children of single mothers are more likely to be in prison, what the prison demographics really show is the effect of poverty. Instead of pointing fingers at race or single parents, acknowledge the effects of poverty and deal with it.

  5. 5

What a dumb ass this girl is………..We shouldn't be trying to teach them anything, we should be eradicating them.

  6. 6

she's pretty much right, sorry! Screw being politically correct, that's all anyone ever worries about now day! She's only speaking the truth and sometimes the truth hurts.

  7. 7

So it's perfectly acceptable for you to throw around hateful terms when referring to her- but when she makes an assessment on society she's deemed all those terms? I wouldn't particularly agree with the way she phrased it- she's not that far off.
Affirmative action has made it easier for minorities to access jobs, schooling, grants, etc., in effect requiring less effort out of minorities than their "majority" counterparts. Once upon a time, affirmative action was a great idea and it worked to break down barriers that otherwise could not be broken. But, like you said, this is 2011. Equality for all!— and that includes eliminating programs that give certain groups a leg-up over other groups.

  8. 8

TRUE TRUE TRUE! Or maybe Mario, instead of relying on a teacher to guide them (like they rely on the government to feed, cloth, and pay them to live) they should DO IT ON THEIR OWN! Everyone has a choice to excel or not to excel - shockingly a lot of black people choose not to. I couldn't agree more with her statements and thank you for posting it!

  9. 9

LOL your PRESIDENT is half black. How dumb is this woman?!?

  10. 10

Well, we keep hearing Al Sharpton say it's not racist if it's a fact, and she's correct about a lot of the young African Americans. I am black and I know this. A lot of our kids don't think they have to work hard and want the government to take care of them. They think being smart and studying is acting white. I guess you don't know about this kind of stuff, Perez, because you're not black, but it's very true in the black community, especially low income areas. Their idols are people like Snoop Dogg and Lil Wayne.

  11. 11

How I love all of the celebrity juice not from concentrate :/

  12. 12

Ive known PLENTY of whites who lie and are high school dropouts moochin off the fucking Government. This woman is a prime example of what is wrong with America today. Feeling entitlement and superiority over others who she feel dont belong in this Country. Dumb ignorant bitch.

  13. 13

Just propose her 20% off her wage, cause she is a woman spending more time with her family than a man, and we'll see if she accepts it…

  14. 14

There *is* nothing wrong with what she said. I was told by a black woman herself who knows plenty o' other black people that many of them A) deliberately get pregnant because of all the funding and programs they can take advantage of as a result, including the huge tax deductions and refunds from the IRS, and that B) many of them deliberately take advantage of public housing and will often times wind up paying only $1 a month in rent. $1. Think about that. And that's why you'll see them (in our area anyway) driving around in fancy cars and SUVs. It's because they have no rent and get all these government kick backs. Many do it on purpose, and it's a "way of life" for them. For them it's like, Why should I work and do things the hard way and pay taxes when I can have four or five babies and get all this money for them, get massive IRS refunds, and pretty much live rent free and drive a brand new SUV? For them it's a no brainer. It's not racist, it's a fact. This is happening. I've seen it, and it was confirmed to me by somebody who's black. But there are plenty of blacks who don't take advantage of the system and get just as steamed as I do when they see it happening.

  15. 15

It is true. The government will take care of you whatever race you are. That is why no one works hard anymore.

  16. 16

    this is just awful

  17. 17

    this is just awful

  18. 18

Black people aint gonna go to school and get decent paying jobs when they can have babies and collect welfare cheques. Lets forget about politcal correctness here and admit the truth.

  19. 19

ew nasty bitch. i bet she's just a lonely old broad who has to speak to seem relevant.

  20. 20

Also you gotta love how the political correct brigade is getting so out of control nowadays that to even speak the truth about what's going on out there or to question anybody of color is to automatically be seen as "racist." (Or "Anti-semetic." That's another brilliant one.) Mario, you should try reading the book "1984." It's called the Orwellian Thought Police, where language is completely taken over by the system. "Racist" is somebody who says "I hate ______ whatever group of people" then calls them derogatory slang names. THAT'S "racist." Not somebody saying that in her personal experience she observed certain types of behaviors coming from a certain group of people. Get a flipping clue Mario. Get off your high horse.

  21. 21

Don't you love it when the most disgusting person on earth, perez, rants about someone else. The irony is almost too much to handle

  22. 22

LMAO coming from someone who called Wiil.I.Am a f-a-g-g-o-t I find this hilarious. But the looney bitch does have a point. Blacks in our society are leeches and will try to do as little as possible while still collecting their government handouts. I'm not saying all black people are alike, but let's face it, the majority of them are scum and are useless in society. If the government would stop giving out free money to these low lives I bet you'd see them getting jobs real quick like.

  23. 23

Re: Q*bert – Well said but, why ONLY generalize "blacks". Their are PLENTY of Latinos who do the same thing. But let's not discredit some whites too. Plenty of people do it and YES it's wrong but I think it's equally wrong to generalize one single race.

  24. 24

Oh, Perez and fellow cornholers, settle yo tired asses down! Don't feel sorry for the Oklahomans, they Elected her! And I can see why they would. Woman tells it how it really is!

  25. 25

    Re: tiggerchick5 – Eggactly!

  26. 26

I think 'black' people would agree with her to a degree depending on specifics and NOT a broad brush. I don't think anyone is offended, but I do think this story IS opportunistic to be used by the high Jewish and Gay communities on the left coast to get a rise out of black america. Like clockwork. Its actually a science. A high science and I think the gig is up.

  27. 27

What a load of Bul* SHI* this b*tch needs to stop trying she won't get anywhere thinking like that.

  28. 28

Re: tiggerchick5 – It's funny that you're black and you feel it is okay for people to generalize one race. Of course Im black too and am sick and tired of people categorizing me based on a set statistic in a specific area.

  29. 29

    Re: Rebecca Vettese
are you retarded? you must be. she didn't say anyone with black in them in going to jail or going to college for free wherever they want. she said it's stupid easy for black people to get into college, because it is, and black youth are less motivated, and they are.

get off your high horses people, nothing she said is false

  30. cika says – reply to this

DISGUSTING RACIST. She makes me sick.

  31. 31

OMG! Are we seriously bringing up affirmative action again? That ish is old news! While you're at it, why don't you start complaining about the lazy kids who were born with a silver spoon and got into amazing schools because of their families. Did these people get into universities because they "worked hard". BS! I have several non-black friends, who I loved dearly, who got into top unversities because their families were alumni and contributed significantly. Wait, what? No response. Thanks. How do you think Bush got into Yale with less than stellar grades? Some of you can go F yourselves. Seriously.

  32. 32

Sorry, what she said is partially true. Affirmative Action just means now a days that you aren't good enough and so we're going to give you special treatment. As far as women earning less, it's also true that a lot of women leave work part of the time to raise children. I would think any self-confident black person would be insulted if they got a job, eduation, etc. based on the color fo their skin and not the content of their mind.

  33. 33

she needs to brush her teeth and take a shower first asap, i live in oklahoma and i would love to meet her and have a conversation with her lmao

  34. 34

As sad as this is…. it is true. But not limited to black people. With each generation it gets worse and worse. If you have a low life parasite of a parent, they tend to produce equally parasitic children… Educate yourselves people!!!

  35. 35

about time, nice to see everyone being treated equal as opposed to getting extra points on exams or moving ahead of the line based on race, color. As Americans we all deserve equal opportunities. Her words may have been harsh but look at the bigger picture. Bravo!!!

  36. 36

Mario, she is 100% correct and you, like the rest of the liberal media continue to live with blinders on. We no longer live in a country that encourages people to work hard and reach for the stars, instead we penalize the rich (taxes) and reward those who don't work with government hand-outs. Both my husband and I are college educated people do did not come from wealthy backgrounds. We put ourselves through college and have worked our asses off to buy a beautiful home and provide wonderful lives for our children (who by the way are also being taught the value of a dollar and the importance to work hard to get to wherever you want to go in life). It is beyond me that we have worked so hard for the American dream and are now being taxed at the highest rate because the government deems us "rich" while joe blow down the street stays home playing video games all day and collects a check from the government. It's disgusting and needs to stop. The American Dream is about hard work. In this day and age we don't need affirmative action to get a leg up. Work hard, put yourself through school if you have to and stand on your own two feet.

  37. 37

I really wish you would stick to facts and not resort to name calling and hate mongering. Your post is pandering at its worst. You do exactly what you claim to despise….label, bully, and resort to hate speech all in an attempt to avoid the underlying issues.
Again…if we want to deal with issues we must deal with some hard, difficult facts. There is a segment of the population that believes the government will take care of them…do you really dispute that? I work with minority foster kids and the system is set up to make them fail….in my situation, they are not expected to meet grade requirements, not expected to do homework and or school projects because they come from a disadvantaged background and the teachers don’t want them to feel bad. When they were repeatedly offered academic help, their mom (who is the education rights holder) refused, stating her kids did not need help and it was racist to suggest they did. When I offered to help with all of the homework, I was accused of trying to make them fit into a world they would never fit into. Now I ask….does that serve these children well in the long run?

  38. 38

at least there's one woman in office who speaks the truth

  39. 39

  40. 40

Re: Rubber Rat – so true to your second comment!!

  41. 41

Re: cika – then go back to that shit hole of a country you came from

  42. 42

Re: tiggerchick5 – Wow. I couldn't agree with you more!

It's sad, but true. If these young people had better guidance from their parents, maybe they wouldn't have that view point.

  43. 43

Re: Q*bert – well said! You forgot to mention the free education those 4 or 5 babies are going to get if they're interested.

  44. 44

SMH some people should just learn to keep their mouths shut. Even if this is how she sees things and views them- she should keep it to theirselves. But I think Government assistant at this stage is across all cultures..especially with the state of the economy…Unfortunatly whats glorified in our younger generations and in the communities where we grow up- has a lot to do with peoples mind sets.. theres never an excuse for these comments- instead as an educator.. she should have reached out to these people she "taught" rather then watching them self destruct. SMH again.

    … but is she wrong?

  46. 46

I remember when I was in college and I interviewed for a position only to find that they hired some black chick from some community college who was way more unqualified for the position than I was. I can't count the times that I've seen unqualified blacks getting jobs that white people have to work their asses off to get. Oh and then they come in late, call off, and take extra long breaks. These people are draining our society. I hate to say it but bringing them over as slaves was one of the dumbest things we as a country could have ever done. They should have stayed in Africa where they belong. Look at them over there, killing each other or living in the jungle huts. Its where they belong, its harsh to say, but its true!

  47. 47

doesn't matter if you agree (yikes) or not, as a politician in public standing she shouldn't say things like this or at least not phrase it so offensively. the way she says 'blacks' like that seems very derogatory and not politically correct which as a politician in public standing of course she should be. dumb bitch.

  48. 48

Wow. What's even sadder (at least for me) is that she sounds like my mom.

  49. 49

    Re: heatherroses – agreed!

  50. 50

She is stating what she was told, how is that racist?

  51. 51

Once again Mario has no clue on what he is talking about. Just as uneducated as the people Rep. Kern are speaking of. Although I do not approve the way she might have approached the matter, there is much truth to it. There are more minorities in our jail systems versus the majority. There are also more minorities using (Abusing) our welfare programs. Affirmative action should be abolished. It has become impossible for a white, male to get any kind of scholarship or grant to attend college and yet a black/hispanic male would receive money instantly. Again if you look at college statistics, minorities are the lowest…. The facts don't lie

  52. 52

She sounds spot on to me.

  53. 53

I think she's referring to the fact they need a "hand up" not a "hand out" and not everyone has a teleprompter so that every thing they say is perfectly crafted and can't be used against them.

  54. 54

When I was in nursing school I had a friend at my apartment complex who was my age and black. She had 2 children. I was trying to get her to take some classes with me and her comment was, "I've never worked and never will. Uncle Sam pays my bill." That is not a racist comment. That is what she said word for word. There are many people that way, it is a vicious cycle. She was raised that way and chose to stay that way. I was raised in poverty and borrowed money to go to school and get out of it. Not racist, but facts.

  55. 55

Re: Rattattattat – Yes, great idea. We should definitely have 8-year-olds "DO IT ON THEIR OWN" as far as education goes. God knows that 3rd-graders who don't excel in school do so because they don't want to try or learn and their teacher, parents, and community have no bearing on their performance.

  56. 56

Everyone uses government funds no matter what color, so people who are saying that shes 100% correct because they "know a black person" is bs. Not everyone can get into a college easily and minorities who acutally use affirmative action HAVE to put in the effort just because they're black doesn't mean they can walk right in, and the question is ARE they using it as frequently as they can, no, check out the minority to white ratio in colleges in the nation. She is however a shame to have her as a public representative with such blunt, bias opinions and I'm surprised she can't at least educate herself let alone announce her beliefs articulately in a public setting.

  57. 57

I love how anyone agreeing with the Legislator gives good reasons as to why they agree with her…. Anybody that disagrees just calls her a cu*t and a b*tch… I think if you don't agree with her, you should tell us why and give reasons that are legit. Like they say, they truth hurts. This lady is from the South, where the majority of the black population is on welfare. Do I say this because I'm a racist white girl? No. In fact, I'm black and I totally support what she says. Statistics aren't just numbers…they're representative of FACTS. 25% of the black population is currently on welfare whereas 7% of the white population is. DO THE MATH.

Oh and for the record, Perez Hilton is a hypocrite.

  58. 58

Way to take a stand. she's pretty much right, sorry! Screw being politically correct, that's all anyone ever worries about now day! She's only speaking the truth and sometimes the truth hurts.

  59. 59

Who cares about this nobody bitch, some white people think they rule the world, and you know what they might be right, but that just explains why the world is so fucked up!

  60. 60

truth hurts, people! suck it up.

  61. 61

For those of you saying "screw political correctness" screw you. Maybe, political correctness has a gone a bit to far, but what she is saying is patently not true. There is absolutely NO evidence whatsoever that being a female and earning less money has to do with gender. Aside from the blatant sexism, it's just a fact. There is also NO evidence that being black means you ought to be in jail. There is however, you racist ass*les, LOTS of evidence that being from impoverished locales gives you a much higher chance of being involved in illegal activity. Race has little to do with it. Go read books you idiots. Stop watching MTV, and stop watching TV altogether, get off your phones, and look around you.

  62. 62

Re: Amen Sister Friend – Amen Sister Friend! Scroll up and see my earlier comments.

"Affirmative Action just means now a days that you aren't good enough and so we're going to give you special treatment. "
Actually that's not what it means at all.

  65. 65

Re: TrannyTakesATumbleRe: Q*bert – You are both my heroes….thanks for voicing your opinion (based on truth) just as eloquently as I would have.

  66. 66

Someone needs to stick an apple in this pig's mouth.

  67. 67

This is so sad, thankfully in 15 years (or less) not many of these people will exist anymore..

  68. 68

people don't want to hear the truth. sorry.
women make less because they can't ever shut up. women would rather stir sh*t up than put their nose to the grindstone and work their way up the ladder. you can't trust someone like that to run a company or direct other employees.
a majority of black parents do not push their children to succeed in life. they don't. do they even ever talk about college? the future? do these kids know that acting ghetto will get them absolutely nowhere in life? black parents seem to raise their kids in a way that dooms them to staying poor and uneducated

  69. 69

    Re: TrannyTakesATumble
"I remember when I was in college and I interviewed for a position only to find that they hired some black chick from some community college who was way more unqualified for the position than I was."
So you admitted she was MORE UNQUALIFIED than you were. So are you saying you were unqualified? But let's go back to her..how do you know she was unqualified? Did you see her resume? Look over her application? Sit in with her during the interview process? Have a friend of a friend who worked in HR?
It's so easy to say, "well, she must have got the job over me b/c he/she's black" because it's easier to do so than to admit your own shortcomings.

  70. 70

She's the not-so-new-face of the Republican party. She heard that Trump was being borderline racist, so she thought it was the cool thing to do. These idiots are hell-bent on setting this country back 60-80 years. She was probably elected based on these same views. Which simply tells you that a great, great chunk of this nation, the bible belt, are generation after generation the most uneducated, bigoted, foolish and idiotic people on the face of the planet. They are also the ones that masturbate to Glenn Beck. And what's even funnier is that Glenn Beck, behind closed doors, says the same thing I'm saying about his own supporters. He can't stand any of them. They make him a ton of cash, so he needs to keep selling his snake oil to the morons who continue to buy it.

  71. 71

I don't agree with her for the most part, but I'm just saying - being one of the few childless women in my office, I'm there a whole hell of a lot more than the women with kids.

  72. 72

This is a totally ignorant statement. In same areas she is right but in many she is wrong. To say minorites do not need to get paid as much using the logic black people are most of the prison population is an racist comment because you are also forgetting about what they are in prison it may be something as petty as unpaid tickets secondly yes some black people don't want an education but thats the same as white people, asian, hispanics, don't insult one race just because you feel as if it is so. Thirdly yes woman do have to take leave for work to help out the family but doesn't mean they should get paid any less. What about single dads who have to go help out their family? If you cut their paychecks it understandable. Lastly if you were to get rid of affirmative actions and Hispanics became the majority in this country which is bond to happen you know this woman would be the one screaming we need affirmative action because theses hispanics aren't hiring whites. This is coming from someone with a biracial background middle classs, college educated, and can see from both sides of the story not just one and no she isn't spot on and for you African Americans who would help put down your own race just because you made something of yourself get over your ego really.

  73. 73

Re: Sissy Burden – Amen! Thank you

  74. 74

It's simple, government officials should not be protected by the first amendment, period.

  75. 75

Re: 1mommy – You're such a dumb bitch it's pathetic. My mother was a single parent. My father died when I was four and she was left to raise 4 girls on her own and she was a WONDERFUL mother btw. So you make yourself even MORE ignorant making comments like that on this site. My mother was a poor single parent but there are MANY middle class blacks in America who have worked extremely hard to get where they are.

  76. 76

Re: Annie Marie Gibson – YOU are referring to two mindless bloggers on THIS site as heroes??? Where are your parents child? Do you go to church?

  77. 77

Its amazing that she is getting reprimanded for what she's saying, and yet Perez, you are using the exact same names against her… if you really are so high and mighty, be the bigger man/woman/whatever and stop with the name calling….

  78. 78

Post secondary education and employment should be based solely on a persons grades and qualifications.

  79. 79

What she's saying about women in the workplace who have husbands and kids is true. They have to take the kids to the doctor and pick them up from school when they're sick and organize this and that at church, and bake sales and parties and you name it. The only way they get anything done is because their coworkers pick up the slack!

  80. 80

It is racist. I don't care if you are black, white, asian, gay, indian or any other minority. She made a SPECIFIC comment about black people. Yes there are a high percentage of black people in prison, however why don't we focus on what leads to suck a lifestyle? why don't we focus on poverty itself instead of race. Why don't we focus on racism and the fact that it does still exist. And what gives these children the idea the government will take care of them? PARENTS…parents with no parenting skills and no drive for anything better. White people do it too. The projects are not africa. They are a mix of races. Instead of eliminating programs that try to alleviate some of the problems caused by racism, why don't we focus our attention on creating programs that could create better future and change the way people think

  81. 81

    Re: Amen Sister FriendRe: Q*bertRe: Q*bert – And you're a sellout.

  82. 82

  83. 83

Re: Annie Marie Gibson – before you call Tranny takes a tumble your hero.. I suggest you read the other NUMEROUS posts posted by this user… You will see that this particular commenter is a racist who makes disgusting statements time and time again.. Not saying what "it" wrote here is incorrect or correc-t just saying you shouldn't choose a racist as a hero. Its not a good look.

  84. 84

Re: TanishaEvonne – Yay - someone who gets it and makes sense. The real issues are poverty and racism.

  85. 85

Re: SW33tS3R3NITY27 – No I don't go to church as I have a mind of my own, and my parents would agree with Tranny and Qbert thank you very much.

  86. 86

Re: SW33tS3R3NITY27 – Don't pay her any mind.. anyone who labels someone who merely posts one comment on a celebrity blog site as their hero clearly needs some help. LMAO!

  87. 87

That is a very ignorant statement, and I am sure her experience as a teacher is not statistically valid, or devoid of any confounding factors. I really can't believe the people that are able to get elected to office. One positive thing however is the check and balance system of our Government. No one official truly has the power to do anything on their own. Our forefathers for the most part got our process for rule making right and protected against any one dumbass. Thank you.

  88. 88

It's funny how many people want to come out and express their true feelings about "the black folk" now that Trump pulled his little racist stunt. What she said was wrong and it saddens me that people (whether black or not) weren't offended by it. I'm not gay but when I see someone bashing them I'm offended as well but it doesn't seem to be the same way regarding minorities which is evident of the fact that this country has a long way to go regarding race relations. As far as Affirmative Action goes, it was put into place to give minorities a fair advantage that they couldn't get before because they were being discriminated against in regards to race and/or gender…it was put in place to right many of the wrongs that have been done. If you don't agree with it then that's fine but don't use it as a way to promote generalizations and prejudices that are based on absolutely nothing. People of ALL races abuse the system. People of ALL race depend only the Government to take care of them. These little examples I've seen throughout the comments of the one black person you know who is a loser are hilarious. Next it'll be "oh but my neighbor is black" or "I have a black friend." As someone who has been black for 30 years I can tell you that what she's saying is BS. I know women who take advantage of the system and kids who don't want learn of ALL RACES. Her racist remarks and a lot of the comments on this post are the reason why this country is like it is.

Re: Annie Marie Gibson – your parents need their heads examined as well… If they would agree with tranny takes a tumble.. who labeled someone unqualified when they don't know them or anything about their education, job history etc. I mean if you paid ANY attention to the comments tranny posts.. you'd see why they weren't given the job. They are illiterate; cannot spell; their grammar is deplorable and every other word they spew on here is racist or littered with profanities. You and your parents ought to be ashamed of labeling that loser your hero. Now I assume you are going to attempt to insult me in return to make up for your lack of any logical or educated replies. But I will amuse myself and wait for your "eloquent" response.

Re: NB Girl – Yes, because mothers have to take care of their children every now and then… duh?? Or what, should women have to choose between a child and a job?

If she felt that blacks were underperforming or unmotivated, it should have been her job as an educator to get through to them and help them appreciate learning. Sure it sounds easier said than done, but people in situations like the students she was teaching do not value education because their parents never did. To some, it's like, why should they learn when it's not going to help them later in life, because that's how a lot of students feel these days. I am so thankful for all the teachers who whipped my apathetic/unmotivated ass in shape when I was in school. Sometimes you have to tap into that potential…it's there.

First off, I hope all Americans are aware of how politicians and comments like this make their country appear to others. Embarrassing! Why is it that politics and attitudes in the US are so far removed from the entire rest of the world?
As usual, the same tired, old arguments are being brought up. Since no one appears to have an even a basic understanding of 'affirmative action' or 'equality', let's discuss. The goal of affirmative action is to give everyone an EQUAL chance, by acknowledging that many groups in society have been systematically disadvantaged for generations upon generations. By giving these groups improved access to education and work, affirmative action is simply placing these people on equal standing as those (generally white men) who have traditionally held power within society and received preferential treatment.
As for the question of blacks and other minorities being over-represented in jails and the welfare system, it has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with colour, race, ethnicity or language. The issue is poverty and nothing else, there are significant numbers of white males in jail and living on welfare don't forget.

Finally, people keep referring to the growing number of minorities taking 'advantage' of the system and the government when the reality is the COMPLETE opposite. In the past 30 years it has become increasingly difficult to gain access to welfare and other social programs, which have been dramatically defunded. At the same time, the corporate and high-income tax rates have decreased substaintially, and the ratio between the 'haves' and 'have nots' has grown.
To anyone who disagrees, READ A F**KING BOOK!

Re: MsJules – I thought the 'no church, because I have a mind of my own' comment was precious too. Apparently, they rule each other out.
In any case, I agree with what you said. Whether you agree or disagree with good ol' Sally, this is too outspoken and dare I say unprofessional for someone of her stature. The thing that bothered me the most though, was her teacher story. As a teacher she should've motivated those children not to dependent on someone else. I know from personal experience that's pretty hard sometimes, seeing as you're dealing with teenagers who have other things on their minds than worry about the future which to them seems very far away. But you should at least try. I would hope she didn't just teach her subject, but in some way shape or form helped these kids to become responsible adults. And Re: SoulFly – yes! Leave families out of it. You want to get into a good college or university? Then you do the work and don't mooch off your family's 'achievements'.

Re: TrannyTakesATumble – Altough I 100% agree with "just telling the truth" about you, I also feel very sorry for you. You should not be ashamed to be gay. I have read so many of your comments, and it seem like you are hurting inside so badly.
You are the prime example of a man like the father in "American Beauty". I promise once you accept yourself you will feel so much better.

Re: Moogle80 – Nicely said!! Always better to read someones opinion when they formulate it in a way that doesn't have to revert to name calling and small insults to feel like the big winner!
