8-Year-Old Buys Gun At School For $3

WTF?!

Police in Queens, NY were contacted by school administrators after an 8-year-old boy purchased a handgun from a fellow classmate for $3.

The boy thought the gun was a toy and took it home to show his mother. When she realized he was holding a real gun, she took her son and the pistol back to school, where administrators alerted the police.

Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said the gun had "three live rounds in it and … a live round was found on the floor of the school room."

The 8-year-old who sold the gun has been charged with criminal possession of a weapon. His father has also been charged with criminal possession and acting in a manner to injure a minor.

The father allegedly purchased the gun for "self-protection."

It's so unbelievably shocking that parents are still recklessly purchasing hand guns and allowing their children to have access to them.

We don't blame the boy's mother for being outraged. So many people could have been hurt. Thankfully, there was no damage.

it's not about the price but the quality of the gun, children have the right to protect themselves too. america is a free country

Its insane how easy it is to purchase a hand gun. I live in Long Island. I had to go through one of the most extensive background checks that there is to obtain a handgun permit. I had to go through, local, state and federal background checks. And even then it still took 7 months to get my permit. Every single one of my handguns are unloaded and kept in a safe. I dont even let my kids so much as look at them. I was even asked on the application where i would be storing them. If you have children regardless of their ages, and you leave a firearm anywhere but in a safe, your basically saying that you really dont care too much for them. NEVER give your child the benefit of the doubt when dealing with firearms!!!

Send the dad to jail. If the gun laws were enforced, then liberals could stop trying to take guns from responsible owners and actually do something.

  4. 4

How is this celebrity gossip, you ass-faced moron?

  5. 5

the young kid selling the gun said he though it was a toy too. The serial # and all identifying marks 'had been filed off' IT WAS AN ILLEGAL GUN. It was also VERY VERY LUCKY that NO ONE WAS SHOT AND NO ONE WAS KILLED. It cost Thousands of dollars and extensive background checks to OWN A LEGAL GUN IN NYC, most IDIOTS and CROOKS sidestep those IRRITATING STEPS and do it illegally. The father will go to jail for a few years, the BOY? It will be investigated whether he knew THIS WAS A REAL GUN or NOT. and if there are other adults in that household and if they knew there was a gun in the house. MORONIC FATHER. oh, and you will go to JAIL LONGER FOR THE GUN if it is ILLEGAL, then an assault in NYC.

God Bless America and its stupid law !!! No one BUT the Police should be allowed to carry a gun !!!

  7. 7

I bet the kids were black.

Just more proof the US is one of the most violent countries in the world. And they have no clue why.

  9. 9

If I had pulled something that stupid as a kid, my mom would have pistol whipped my butt all the way home. It is one thing to have protection but a whole different ballgame when the parents can't put the gun up safely.

  10. 10

Wow, he really jewed him down on the price.

  11. 11

It's this mutherfucking kids constitutional right to own a gun.

Re: o3mta3oRe: dtvantrani – I don't know if you two are serious or trying to make a joke…

  13. 13

They charged the 8 year old??? Please… What the hell is that gonna do? It's the father's responsibility to lock it up. That's all. On another note, 3 bucks for a piece? Kid got a great deal. Reward him for his great bargaining skills!

  14. 14

Or, as is known in progressive Texas and Arizona- Show and Tell.

Re: dtvantrani – What you just wrote is beyond mind-boggling. "Children have the right to protect themselves too"…I…I don't even know what to say to this.

My sister currently goes to this school (I'm a former student) it's an amazing school but this shows that this can happen anywhere. The gun was a semi automatic which is 100% illegal in the US so the Father (besides the fact he had an unregistered gun and the fact that it's ny law to lock the gun up) is in a shit load of trouble. The kid who bought the gun was suspended (which I'm sure will blow over because it wasn't really his fault). The one who sold it im sure will get off because he didnt know any better. I'm just wondering how a live round made it on the floor of the class room and where the hell the teacher was at the time this was all going down.

There's a huge difference between educated gun owners and unedcuated gun owners. It is up to the parent who owns a gun (or multiple guns) to teach the child about it and how dangerous they are. It is equally important to make sure that they are put up safely. At 8 the boy has comprehension of a real gun verses a toy. Its a blessing it didn't go off. This one is on the father for not educating his child.

Re: k.cidyRe: JasonDiggy – You two are idiots. You can't ban something thats been legal since America was founded. Wanna know why? Because law abiding citizens would then turn in their weapons but criminals would still have them. Oh and you are aware the UK has higher murder and burglary rates than the Us right? Clearly your no gun laws are working well. Only reason why brits arent allowed firearms is the royals put that in place because they know once the brain dead sheeple citizens realize they are taking your tax payer money to live the life of luxury so you can't overthrow them..Duh.

Re: BreeX3 – "The gun was a semi automatic which is 100% illegal in the US" Oh look, Another idiot that knows nothing about the thing they probably want banned. A semi automatic weapon is NOT illegal. A semi automatic weapon is where you have to pull the trigger every time without having to cock it. A fully automatic weapon is illegal. Theres a difference. But a fully automatic weapon is not "100% illegal" You can legally obtain them. You just have to have a class 3 license. Which is not easy nor cheap to get.

That being said, Do not blame guns. Blame the idiotic parents for being horrible idiotic parents. It's not difficult to hide a gun out of reach of a minor. They offer gun safes AND trigger locks. A trigger lock on the weapon and being put in a safe will 100% guarantee that a child cannot access it. Or the child can be educated on the weapon. My dad never needed a safe or trigger guard for his weapons because he educated me (at age 6) telling me to assume all guns are loaded and NEVER EVER to touch it without his permission..This was flat out a bad stupid parent. It's funny, A small minority of idiots can blow their hands off with fireworks..So lets ban fireworks. A few kids get ahold of their fail parents weapons..Lets ban guns!..

HOW ABOUT WE BAN STUPID PEOPLE FROM BREEDING? How about that.

Damn white people! ugh, they're all a bunch of gang banging wannabe thugs. :P

Re: diamondheart – no i am absolutely serious, only in the usa should babies be given a gun before their first bottle of milk. the sooner children own a gun the better understanding they have in its importance.

  22. 22

Re: NookiesWA – I was wrong pardon me. I don't disagree with the other things you have to say. Obviously this parent was a fucking idiot and the other one did right by taking the gun back to the school to go about proper action on the situation. I could care less about guns personally all I really care about is the fact that the children were potentially put in danger because an idiot decided not to get a licence or to at least keep it in a locked safe.

Re: NookiesWA – You hit the nail on the head

  24. 24

Re: NookiesWA – Thank you for your intelligent reply to so much stupidity on the subject of guns. We need more folks like you here in the U.S.A. :)

  25. 25

Re: NookiesWA – automatic weapons are not illegal in the US but rather require a Federal license to own and operate. Certain states however, do have a ban on them regardless if the Feds OK it.

  26. 26

of course it as in queens and im sure the kids were black and have stupid ignorant black parents. the gun was probably stolen in a drug deal.

  27. 27

Re: MGMTFTW – Hispanic and white dumb ass.

  28. 28

it terrifies me to think what might have happened had that gun discharged with one of the kids playing cops or cowboys with another child
    .
    this is horrific!

  29. 29

Re: NookiesWA – Uh, I live in Canada. Our murder rate is very, very low and handguns are illegal. The UK's murder rate is far lower than the USA's, as well. Where do you get your stats? Fox News? Get some education and stop believing Glen Beck.
