Superman Renouncing His U.S. Citizenship Causes Backlash!

| Filed under: Wacky, Tacky & TruePolitik

backlash over superman renouncing us citizenship

A little over a week ago, Superman renounced his U.S. citizenship in DC's Action Comics #900, when he was "scolded by a member of the president's security staff for appearing at a protest in Iran, with the notion that Superman's actions reflect the positions of U.S. government as a whole."

The Man of Steel had the following to say about it at the time:

"I'm tired of having my actions construed as instruments of U.S. policy."

It was def a controversial move, and now the backlash is growing against the superhero, D.C. Comics, AND parent company Time Warner.

Boycott threats against Time Warner as a whole have begun, and apparently they're being taken seriously because DC Comics reportedly "may be rethinking the story line."

Guess Superman will have to head over to the Fortress of Solitude to think this one over. LOLz.

Do U think Superman should stick to his guns? Or would U prefer he return to his patriotic ways?

ive never really disliked america like a lot of the world does, but im starting to now. you guys are actually crazy…

  2. 2

Fuck you, Superman! You're just pissed we got bin Laden without you.

  3. 3

This news is bad publicity for the comic book and the new movie in production. What happened to "Truth, justice, and the American way"?
Bad timing for this comic as patriotism is back since the U.S. military got Bin Ladin. Go Captain America!

  4. 4

Considering Superman was created by Joe Shuster, a Canadian, he can be whatever citizenship he wants.

  5. 5

True Patriots express their opinions and displeasure with the government. America right or wrong is a Sheepish attitude. Kind of like saying Germany, right or wrong back in the 30's.

  6. 6

The funny thing is that, technically, Superman has never been a US citizen. He is an illegal alien (literally) who was adopted illegally by a couple who fraudulently passed him off as an American. He can't renounce his citizenship because he never even had it in the first place.

  7. 7

Wow, Americans really got there panties in a knot over this. Just shows that intolerance and nationalism are on the rise, no longer land of the free.

  8. 8

Ultra-nationalists are fucking morons. That is all.

  9. 9

Re: electromouth – Less than half of our population are crazy right-wing nationalists, while even more of us are normal people and not particularly patriotic or outspoken. Unfortunately, the people you hear about are the minority, because they're a bunch of loud assholes. Trust me, I understand your point of view, because they piss me off too.

  10. 10

Oh America I could never leave you, YOU AMUSE ME!!!

  11. 11

A book store here in Dallas Texas pulled all Superman stand alone title comics from their shelves and canceled future orders.

  12. 12

Oh and yea TOTAL BULLSHIT DICKHEAD ANTI-AMERICAN MOVE AND I HOPE IT LE.. sorry. And I hope it leads to some one from DC Comics getting FIRED! Superman is The American Hero period.

    Re: JasonDiggy

    ^This won the thread

  14. 14

When did Superman become a U.S. citizen? We was born on a foreign planet and I believe he is an illegal alien. Deport him.

  15. 15

Re: idiggory – omg that seriously made my laugh… but unfortunately you have redeemed this website in the process. *sigh* spot on though haha

How can he be getting rid of his US citizenship because of US policy? US policy IS EURO-BRITISH policy. The US fights the battles and dies for bullshit and the EURO ELITE collect the collateral after the damage has been cleared. The united states is (almost) a complete crown corporation of the various roundtable groups of Western Europe and Britain. THE CFR, Trilateral Commission, RAND, UN, Federal Reserve and Ivy league collegiate institutions are all gateways into the US from London. They allow the Bildeberger Group, Club of Rome, Club of Paris, the Vatican, European banks and banking families, Royal Houses and the collective Illuminati to have their way with just about ALL ways and means of the US citizens life. So fuck this 'Superman' propaganda delivered to all of us from the New Bolshevik World Order on behalf of Europe. Read between the Bavarian lines…..

  17. 17

Keep in mind the Captain America film was made in Britain. The Bolsheviks don't hate you…..they just don't give a fuck about you.

  18. 18

    Stick to your guns Superman!
It is time that our young people started lloking t them selves as citizens of the world not aspire to be Americans!

  19. 19

I am so sick liberal anti-americans. Now, I hope DC and Time Warner suffer big losses for this.

  20. 20

Superman's secret identy is Sean Penn

  21. 21

Re: Scahootowl – That is a VERY good comparison. The US government today, starting after 9-11, is heading towards a Mussolini-Hitler corporate fascist state. In fact we are already there.

  22. 22

Re: caravaggio the terrible – I almost forgot the 'biggest' conduit of all of what i listed above….Freemasonry. The British Grand Lodge by way of Albert Pike going back to the Gold Rush in the United States. There is even a statue of this man on Wilshire Blvd. in Los Angeles. He also brought the order known as the 'KKK' from Britain to London. You may have heard of this?

  23. 23

he is superman.stands for truth justice and the american way,
dont change him. i be jut as upset if all of the sudden the kingpin was black oh wait he is according to the daredevil movie.
you cant change our hero.es or villians according to a news network. if he isnt an americn neither is clark so kick them out.

  24. 24

Superman was _never_ meant to be solely an American hero, but a personification of all human ideals. Prior to World War II, the rise of the military-industrial complex, Americans were far more able to move freely and peaceably throughout the world and found a welcome home in countries where freedoms were valued and civil discourse was natural (not to mention a rather large number of countries where they were not.) Superman would still find a welcome home just about anywhere: Americans, not so much.

  25. 25

    1) I thought "he" was dead and 2) He's a fucking cartoon. Who gives a shit?

  26. 26

I thought it was ridiculous and pointless to have him renounce his "US Citizenship" considering he's literally an "illegal" alien. What does the comic have to gain from having him renounce his supposed US citizenship? It stands to gain a backlash and a backlash alone. An understandable one.

  27. 27

people need to chill. its a COMIC BOOK!

  28. 28

    Stick to your guns, Superman!
You were originally designed by a Canadian, and are an illegal Kryptonian immigrant in any case.

  29. 29

It's okay if he leaves because Dora is gettin' her green card! Whoo-hoo!

  30. 30

Re: Nathiestx – Actually Captain America is the American Hero. Or the American Hero of the 80s was the American Hero. Superman is and will always be Kryptonian. If ANYTHING the US considers him an illegal alien. iDiggory is right, he never had citizenship in the first place. It's all a publicity stunt, just like when they killed Superman. He'll decide we're worth it and come back.

  31. 31

He was born on Krypton. How can he be an American? I don't remember any comics where he was given citizenship.

  32. 32

superman stands for the ideals of america, honor, justice, compassion, peace, but most importantly, the ability to make ones decisions without the governement otherwise. he is or was an american citizen first, an superhero second. i applaud DC for making this move. they should stick to it.

  33. 33

Re: JasonDiggy – It was created by two men one who was American born Jerry Seigal. As for the canuck, Joe Schuster he moved to the US at age 10, grew up in Cleveland, Ohio and called the US home sweet home until the day he died. Schuster was an American citizen by the time Superman was created.

  35. 35

Wow, can no one have an opinion anymore? Sure, he may be a fictional character, but for all you Americans who go on about the 'American Way', what about the freedom of speech? He's not just an American advocate anymore, he speaks for the whole world, and his character is supposed to represent truth and justice, not the opinion of nationalist Americans.

  36. 36

Isn´t he a world wide hero?
and he renounced becouse Lex is the president, right, so how could you blame him.

  37. 37

Truth, Justice and the American Way. Don't be changing our super hero!
