Reality TV Producer In Chicago Revealed To Be Registered Sex Offender

reality tv producer has criminal record

Just awful!

Last month, reality TV producer David Schlessinger was holding casting calls at gay bars in Chicago for Boystown, a series "on young LGBT Chicagoans." The show had been billed as "a hybrid of The Real World, The A-List, and Jersey Shore."

Looks like the show will NOT be moving forward though, now that Schlessinger has been outed as a registered sex offender with THREE criminal sexual assault convictions, all of which involved underage boys. Disgusting!

Schlessinger pled guilty to the charges in Sept 1998, and he served three years in prison for each charge.

We're just glad to hear that the truth came out before the series moved forward.

He is clearly a very disturbed, deranged man who belongs in some sort of a mental facility…NOT in charge of a reality television series!

eh i hate to defend a sex offender. i'm not one and don't plan to be… but it's hard to tell exactly what he did from that, he's out of jail and free to pursue a career.

also maybe this shouldn't be filed under gay gay gay, that's why i read it in the first place.

  3. 3

I don't know. if he was convicted and did his time, shouldn't he be allowed to move on?

  4. 4

Wow, I live in "Boystown" in Chicago, known offically as Lakeview….I never knew they were making a show about this hood. Cool….

I concur. Whatever crimes he's done, he's already paid his debt to society, by doing his time. I cannot see why he's unable to move forward with his show. If he's got the capital, sponsors, and a fame-hungry cast (and it's no secret that most gays love a camera — I'm gay, so I can attest to this), I'm pretty sure this show will go on. Personally, I'd want to see it.

What about the ABSOLUTE FORGIVING POWER of JESUS CHRIST the Christians blabber on the TV CHURCHES every week?

"Jesus said "What you do to others you do to me"….YOU JUST FIRED JESUS and he's never done anything wrong!

What about the 50 million (+) women & men who have done the ULTIMATE CHILD ABUSE… committing COLD-BLOOD MURDER sucking out their babies PIECE-BY-PIECE by abortion?

I have and always been truly sorry for the mistakes that I made 15 years ago. I have taken responsibility for these actions and their consequences. If anything, I have used them as a learning experience to help me grow to become a better person.

“The reporting at this time in my life, as if it were some revelation, only serves to publicly humiliate me.

“Since then, I have worked diligently to better my neighborhood and community. I received a letter from Mayor Richard M. Daley thanking me ‘for improving the quality of life in my community.’ In 2006, I was appointed by the National Republican Congressional Committee to act as honorary chairman on the Business Advisory Council for the state of Illinois, and they presented me with a leadership award for promoting a ‘pro-business agenda including tax reform and fiscal responsibility.’

“I am really proud of my efforts with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development that ensures that over 20 low-income families have a safe place to live. In addition, I have created a production company that has done many events. We are currently working on a reality series.

“I would ask that the public base their judgments on all of the good and noteworthy things that I have done for Chicago’s community within the past 15 years. I think that is what should stand out, not something negative from the past.”

Boystown’ reassures fans that the show will go on.
The following statement is from Chitown Entertainment, LLC., which produces ‘Boystown’

“Today there were discussions about possible location shoots for 'Boystown' at Harlem and Irving Plaza, one of the largest malls in the Chicagoland area.

"Three of largest and most popular gay nightclubs in Boystown, Circuit, Spin and Hydrate, are very supportive and remain eager to be part of the reality show production.

"There have been ongoing discussions with all the prospective cast members and each and every one of them is still very interested in the project.

”As you can see, the future of the show is in no jeopardy whatsoever."

To all of you wonderful and supporting people who have the intelligence and wisdom to realize that the media only shows part of the story to make it juicy, they do not tell the whole truth, I say THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!
Please read the above statemements that my publicist has released, but to this date, no news media has printed it in it's entirety!

Molesting children is never ok, but labeling someone as derranged and mentally disturbed is not even the root of the problem. he needs to be rehabilitated and not just locked up in a mental ward confined to just some walls. 1998 was a long time ago and heres hoping he has turned his life around and changed his ways. This story however seems to be missing several details…how old is he? How old was he at the time? Technically having sex w/someone 17 can be considered statchetory rape & hed be considered a sex offender.. but none of the details are here so who really knows. Either way- i hope he is rehabilitated.

OK–I do normally agree that once a person has paid their debt to society (e.g. jail time) then they should be free to move on; however, I believe that statistics support the notion that certain types of criminal behavior are likely to be committed again by certain individuals–child sex abuse is one of these. So yes, on some level, I believe this individual should be allowed to move on with their life after prison, but I believe that restricting them from working/being around young children considering the sensitive nature of their crime is important. I don't even have to have kids to imagine how I would feel knowing that a sex offender was hanging around my kids.

Re: Annie Gee – To be more specific, "Boystown" is the OFFICIAL designation of Halsted St. between Belmont and Grace. Coined by Mayor Daley himself, Boystown is within Lakeview (half Lakeview & half Lakeview East) in the same way Wrigglyville is within Lakeview. Neither Boystown nor Wrigglyville are official Chicago neighborhoods, per say, but their designations are recognized, however formal or informal, by the City government.

It appears as though the boys he was involved with were over the age of 13 which would make this fellow not a pedophile but an ephebophile (look it up if you don't know). It still was messed up but he did do the time and hopefully this guy is in therapy and can move on. And I hope the boys he was with have had counseling and are doing ok.

Wasn't he the genius behind gems 'Teen Mom' and '16 and Pregnant'? Jokes… Reality TV is bad for everyone… Lowest Common Denominator bringing median viewers and crew into deep dark new lows. This isn't going to be the first story of this nature we will hear in regards to 'Reality Show Producers'. Another one was charged with the murder of his wife about 3 years ago.
