Jersey Shore Delayed After Florence Revokes Shooting Permits
Picture this:
The Situation and DJ Pauly D are packing up their shake-weights, barrels of hair gel and grenade whistles for the trip of their lifetime - an all expenses paid vacay to Florence, Italy. The MTV cameras are rolling as they pack their things and are getting more excited by the minute.
And then, they get the call. The call from home base, saying there's no trip to Italy, not yet anyway. They've encountered some "logistical problems" and won't be able to leave.
This is exactly the story we're hearing about how the news was broke to the boys about the delay to season four of The Jersey Shore. Just this week, permits given to the network to film at some of Florence's best-known landmarks, were revoked. The cause - unknown.
So now, with no permission to shoot in places like the Palazzo Vecchio and the Uffizi Gallery, producers are scrambling to figure out what to do with the cast in Florence now that they really seem to be unwanted.
What. Is. Your. Problem, ITALY?
Seriously? Do you guys not have guidos in your cities? What is all this fuss over???

I'm just wondering why MTV wants to send them to Florence..? First of all the place for them would be Rimini or Riccione, the beach is so and so, but the night life is WILD. Second. I've heard that they want to put them (in Florence) in a building that belongs to the University, with students inside. Italian universities have exams coming up in June and July, so students are studying right now. Could this be the problem? they're afraid of the noise that the cast would bring?
Jersey Shore is my guilty pleasure, I swear I would have the whole cast stay at my place if I had the chance. Just let the boys and the girls land and let them enjoy the place,, for heaven's sake!
Because Europe doesnt like and doesnt want USA trash. Fuck off, stay away from Italy. Stay in idiotic places like Miami, where people dont know shit.
guidos and guidettes here are a bit different from the (fake) ones of the Jersey shore. The point here is that they don't belong to places like Uffizi and Palazzo Vecchio just because they don't care about art & culture, at all.
I think the show could not just be them looking at art pieces and pondering about the use of perspective, their audience expects them to be wild and mess around. they should go somewhere more appropriate like Rimini as GuidettefromItaly suggested.
Florence is really starting to piss me off. Send them to malta, we like to party here.

Happy to hear some friend letting you understand "what is wrong with ITALY", probably too difficult to understand for you. For sure, if they really want to come and play stereotipical life of steroids, binge drinking, jim and stupidity Riccione and Rimini would just be better, as GuidetteInItaly is saying. But in any case, what's YOUR problem of thinking that an MTV show doesn't affect a city image? DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA of what florence is about? They are more than welcome to come and waste their money as they prefer, but for sure they are not welcome to do it with cameras following them. We just don't want them. A similar show if made in Italy would probably receive the same restrictions, but caming from US and representing the worse of the worse stereotypes on italo-americans and idiots life style 'jim-alchool-sex', I'm just proud that the mayor has set such limits to the cast. You too, before writing shit like "what is wrong with you" try to connect brain and fingers while typing your posts. Or maybe, if you like so much such a show, there's something wrong with you too. In any case, I know many people here in florence who doesn't like them being here in any case, so be sure that their days here won't be that enjoyable.

You are 100% correct. I love the show, it is my guilty pleasure, but Florence was a very strange choice for MTV to make. It is a very small city, very old, beautiful amazing art-work and architecture, tourists are mostly art and history buffs. And having the cast stay at a university while the students are studying for exams, is just ridiculous. Sorry MTV, but you did not plan this trip properly….
I'm sure they have time to reconsider, Rimini & Riccione, are indeed party towns. They can also consider the areas outside of Rome such as Ostia, or Frascati…Good luck MTV…
By the way, it's true - there are no Guidos in Italy…A Guido is basically a North American-Italian creation - a stereo-type that many real Italians find offensive. It consists of people who are not living in Italy, know nothing about Italy, don't speak the language, but want to somehow keep their Italian "background" and "culture" alive, by dressing and acting and talking a certain way. The only Guidos you'll see walking around Florence or Rome or Venice, are the tourists from the USA and Canada…That is one creation NOT "made in Italy"…

american university in florence was very upset for them to arrive there and were very worried about their american student to be distracted and disturbed by the jerseys.

Why would Italy want them? There would be absolutely no positives for Italy in having the Jersey Shore crew there and many many chances to be embarrassed by them.

Re: NookiesWA – Hey, maybe you didn't understand what I'm trying to say: believe me, we have our own reality trash tv programs in Italy.. really trashy.Our own politicians (the ones who should represent Italian people) turn up in these shows to be judges, or role models (e.g. Alessandra Mussolin the grand daughter to ol' Benito, LOL!!!) and they get payed too . I wish there were subtitles to these programs, so you could have a sample of what I'm talking about. About the Jersey shore, I like it and I stand with what I wrote perviously. Firenze: there is no close beach, you have to drive a long way to see some water. Rimini & Riccione are much better for the show. MTV Italy stations itself here during the summer, because they know that it's where people like to go when they want to go wild. As for me, I really like americans when they come over here: yes, they are loud, and they expect to have it the american way, but they are funny and once they get a chance to open their minds they are wonderful. I think they were counting on Mtv quitting while they were ahead when they wrote all the shooting stipulations. Mtv could send them to a deserted island for all they care and they'd still get the footage they want.

I like the jersey shore I do think its funny- but I also feel like Italy is trying to protect their image and you can't really blame them. The cast is destructive- JWow peed behind a bar- who wants someone urinating like that- very animalistic behavior. Eh… simple entertainment- but they could stand to class it up a touch.

I agree with GuidetteInItaly and all the ones who think Florence is just the wrong location. Rimini and Riccione would be just right up their alley, and trust me, there are some trashy people there too! I personally don't watch the show, I think it's outrageous that they make money to be filmed while they get drunk and get arrested but hey, that's how most of the showbiz rules are!
As an Italian (born and raised in Italy- not in NJ!) leaving in the US I think these people are embarrassing and I totally agree with who said that the "Guidos" are a stereotype and have NOTHING to do with how Italian people are and they share little to nothing of the Italian culture and language, except from some occasional swear words and weird Southern Italian accents they try to fake…

To be honest, Perez, you will not find Guidos in Italy other than the south of italy. In places like Calabria and such. I'm not surprised at all that they took away their permits. Florence is a beautiful city and it has nothing to do with the hard partying that the guys and girls from the Jersey Shore do on a daily basis.
They really don't have guidos, never did. Even when guidos were all over the place in the late 70's and 80's (remember the phrase Bridge and Tunnel (it's east coast) - well that's what we called them in Manhattan. It's like Bon Jovi said, we grew up with guidos and they were an embarrassment!!! I've been to Italy 15 times and not once have I seen a guido and I'm a girl from Long Island originally so I know guidos!!
I heard that it has something to do with Giorgio Napolitano being in town this week and they didn't want to have them mixed up with that. Even if he is, I doubt that has anything to do with it though. Italy has not wanted them there from the beginning, and like everyone else has been saying, Florence is a beautiful and historical small city. It's not the right place for them at all. I personally don't think they should be filming in Italy at all. Seeing as how the show is called JERSEY SHORE, they should stay in Jersey, but if they do take it to Italy, there are other areas that are more suited for people like them where they won't be a huge nuisance and actually stand a slight chance of being accepted, MAYBE. They won't be getting any of that in a place like Florence though.
