Nobody Gives A Dam About Mel Gibson's Beaver

| Filed under: Film FlickersJodie FosterSad SadMel GibsonBusiness Blitz

the beaver does poorly at box office

Better luck next time, Mel!

Last we heard about Mel Gibson's The Beaver, director Jodie Foster was STILL trying to convince us to love Mel and embrace the movie.

We weren't really feeling it, and apparently nobody else was feeling it either because thus far, The Beaver has only made $104,000 after three days of release in 22 theaters! Ouch!

Looks like Jodie isn't letting the film's lack of Box Office get to her though, because when she spoke at a recent Q&A screening of the film, she had the following to say:

"I don’t care if the movie doesn’t make any money."

Nice to hear that she's staying strong despite having the odds heavily against her with this one.

…Wonder how Mel's feeling about it…

What do U think about The Beaver's weak box office numbers? Do U think it deserves more love? Even less?

i read that this was one hell of a movie. yeah, the guy got drunk and insulted a bunch of different races. Im pretty sure I have heard a number of friends do the same thing when they were drunk. Didnt Chris Brown beat the shit out of a woman and have a number one album. Didnt Ben Rothesburger rape a girl then start as a quarterback in the superbowl? Michael vick kills dogs and continues to be a starting quarterback. Roman Polanski drugs and rapes a 13 year old girl and continues to make movies. I think most people have had drunken nights that if they were taped would haunt them forever. So the guy said the N word. What one of the last top ten rap albums did NOT feature that word in a song. Al I am tying to point out with out defending Mel, is that famous people do some real horrible shit and continue to have success. "shit , Vince Neil killed a guy and he only did two weeks!"- Airheads

Mel Gibson sucks. He is no longer believable.

  3. 3

ps. point in fact. Lil Wayne goes to jail over weapons possession and who is promoting him on their front page? Perez

  4. 4

    Lawl.

  5. 5

Perez gives press to anyone who pays him; he has no real morals; just pretends to.

No one wants to see Mel. No one wants or cares about Chris Brown either except loosers.

They both are getting what they deserve.

Re: octopusinks – Wow, love your idols!

  7. 7

I agree w/ octopusinks 100%, that Bruno Mars guy was found guilty of selling cocaine. Mel Gibson was fine until he made Passion of the Christ, since then he has been hated by Hollywood, (the Jewish folks who run Hollywood) If I have the chance to see The Beaver, I will.

  8. 8

let's take a wild guess - "octopusinks" is Mel Gibson.

  9. 9

Re: iloverickymartin – totally agree. he's been too public an ASSHOLE to take seriously.

  10. 10

Is Mel really the reason no one wants to see this or is it maybe that:

It's a Jodie Foster movie called "The Beaver" that has no girl-on-girl scenes and instead has a ridiculous fake animal.

  11. 11

    22 theatres? wat the fuck.
And i dont think the lack of ppl going to this movie is cause of mel. its cause of the kind of movie it is. a depressing movie. ppl are already depressed to shit and dont want to see others suffering on the big screen. i believe.
Im a fan on Mel Gibson and i dont care 1% about what happens in his real life.
More comedy/action (more story less cgi) and ill gladly go see Mel on the big screen.

  12. 12

despite Mel's behavior, I still do want to see this movie. The problem for me is to find a theater near by that plays it.

  13. 13

22 THEATRES RELEASE?!?!?! WAT THE FUUUUUUCK
ill just tell you.. Thor! was realesed in 4.000 theatres! Mels movie was released in 22!! 22!!!!

  14. 14

It's not like it made that money in wide release, it made that money in limited release. And anway it's a small indie movie. It's not a commercial movie. People just want to jump on the flop bandwagon because it's starring Mel Gibson when really this is how most indies do when they start out in limited release.

  15. 15

Jodie is an idiot. If she really believed in the movie, she should have re-shot the entire thing with a different actor. But she's standing by Mel because he's never called her a dyke (to her face). The Beaver is a huge embarrassment, with no potential upside for anyone involved, and they should have left it on the shelf.

  16. 16

Fcuk Mel Gibson and Fcuk Jodie Foster for supporting him.
And with regards to Chris Brown, they should both be in prison right now.

  17. 17

THE ONLY BEAVER I WANT TO SEE IS ONE THAT SMELL LIKE TUNA AND THAT CAN BE LICKED

  18. 18

Lose. Lose. Lose. Jodie fucked; Mell fucked; Oksana fucked (no royalties). What trash.

  19. 19

I wasn't even aware that this movie had come out.

The figures for 22 theatres isn't that bad… In fact, if it opened up on the average of 2500 theatres, it would stand to make 12 million. The critics have been praising both Ms Fosters and Mel Gibson's work. I'd wait until the big opening this week before we pass judgement….

  21. 21

i still love mel and would watch him do anything , a movie called the beaver that people worked out had no beaver in it might be the issue..most movies these days have people being blown up or cut to peices almost like hack em up crash bash or rerun war movies of the greatness of usa …

mels a amazing actor so what if he hit the russian bride extortionist most people hit those trying to steal their wallets

  22. 22

Mel Gibson is one of the best actor/directors of all time. If Woody Allen can marry his own adopted daughter and Roman Polanski (a known pedophile) can keep making movies, Mel deserves a shot too.
If everything was ever recorded when I was angry or drinking, I'd sound like a maniac too. Yes, being in the public eye it wasn't the brightest thing he could have done, but honestly, he didn't rape or molest an innocent person. Get over people!!!

  23. 23

I didnt go see. Not because of Mel, but because it looks like a bull shit boring crap movie! It might be a very worthy vanity project for that Lezza but it looks crap. A beaver? Seriously? No.

  24. 24

Love Jodie foster, sorry she picked Mel as her leading man. Wrong choice for a BIG money making film. I'm glad she didn't care if it mad money. Now we know she got her share from making it, but as a director I hope she get the credit she deserves. We can't control what people do in their personal lives such as Mel.

  25. 25

THE BEAVER… was a very good film! It is a small character-driven film with heart & soul. If people cannot get past or separate actors' private life issues, then you'll probably not see it. But as entertainment and good story telling - it was very good! And in only 22 theaters at this time is most likely due to a 'limited release'… which at this time of the year - difficult with all the CGI action movies.

  26. 26

It isn't Mel that is causing the lack of attendance it is the subject/title of the movie. He is a fine actor who cares about his personal life? People get too caught up with it. All celebrities have something to hide that is why they act hard for them to be themselves ya know?

Re: weavermomo – The title and trailer subject matter, agreed.
It looks very good to me. I learned long ago that just because something doesn't sell in today's marketplace, doesn't mean it isn't very good. For example, great philharmonic orchestras are shutting down in major cities for lack of paying listeners. This movie only opened in 22 theatres. What's up with that? I think I might know.

  28. 28

this movie is actually really good i saw an advance screening of it in lincoln square last wednesday. ppl shud give it a shot

  29. 29

Mel and Jodie are both excellent actors and i don't care about their personal lives, they don't care about mine either.
As for Beaver not doing well at the box office, timing is everything, i 'm not in a comedy mood and i really dislike the name BEAVER so i have no desire to see this movie and it's not showing in my town either because the film is doomed to fail because so few theaters are showing it !
We will see it when it comes out online
