But is that necessarily a good thing?
Last night, American Idol scored a 6.9 preliminary rating with 22.4 million viewers for the show's performance night. Those numbers are a bit better from last week, but are pretty equal to the show's standing last year. Actually, on average, Idol's ratings have been pretty comparable to its strength from last year.
But… should't they be hoping for better? True, the show's gone through a lot of changes this year with all the new judges and the format change for the contestant's song selections. But by this point in the game, so close to the end (and with Lady GaGa guest-starring) we would think FOX would want much HIGHER numbers than that.
We don't know. It's still #1, sure…but how much longer will solid numbers be enough to sustain the show?
Reaching? Or, has Idol really run its course?
