American Idol Ratings Stay Solid

But is that necessarily a good thing?

Last night, American Idol scored a 6.9 preliminary rating with 22.4 million viewers for the show's performance night. Those numbers are a bit better from last week, but are pretty equal to the show's standing last year. Actually, on average, Idol's ratings have been pretty comparable to its strength from last year.

But… should't they be hoping for better? True, the show's gone through a lot of changes this year with all the new judges and the format change for the contestant's song selections. But by this point in the game, so close to the end (and with Lady GaGa guest-starring) we would think FOX would want much HIGHER numbers than that.

We don't know. It's still #1, sure…but how much longer will solid numbers be enough to sustain the show?

Reaching? Or, has Idol really run its course?

Don't watch this show anymore - peaced out around 4 seasons ago. It's just the SAME thing over and over and over (annoying judges, semi-talented pretty kids, lame Ford commercials and group sing alongs).

Ever so cheesy. Not the same without Simon. Love ST but he praises everyone even when they are bad. Didn't want to see James go tonite either. Losing interest by the episode.

I have been watching this show this year but I did not watch last night because Gaga was on, thank you Perez for making me sick of seeing her. There is no mystery with her, it's to much all the time.

actually, ratings the same as last year, ARE GOOD! SIMON WAS HERE LAST YEAR, the cast is half new. …………and… NOT EVERYONE IS UP GAGAG ASS LIKE YOU ARE MARIO! some of us, don't think it is a good idea for her to work with the singers.

I can only watch it on PVR so I can fast forward through the crap.

How come you only look at the ratings when GAGA is on the show?? Actually, the ratings are doing great this year….. All because you expected the ratings to be the highest ever all because Lady Gaga blessed the show with her appearance, doesn't mean the show is doing bad. The show is number 1 in the ratings and you are asking if that is enough to sustain the show? Saying that makes no sense would be an understatement. Lady Gaga just isn't as big of a ratings killer as you think!

Re: rosebud99 – That's alot of fast forwarding. 5 minutes left to watch hey?

Re: MissJosette – Pretty much. It is rare that I listen to a whole song - skip most of the commentary, skip Seacrest, etc. But I'm not a country fan, so I am sorry to see James go.

Idol has more than run its course- that's why they sold it this last week, and why the producers are developing Coming 2 Hollywood (coming2hollywood.com). Only about 5 years delayed, I'd say…

And with Lady GaGa guest starring? Even if I did watch AI, I would probably tune out so I wouldn't need to see her dumb ass on my TV. Her star is fading and her singles are flopping. Sorry, Perez.

It sucks to be ONLY the number ONE show and not the number ONE number ONE show…
