Angelina's Bosnian War Film Gets Title And Release Date

| Filed under: Angelina JolieFilm Flickers

Angelina Jolie's highly-anticipated directing debut now has a title and a release date.

The controversial film, which centers around the romance between a Serbian man and Bosnian woman during the Balkans conflict that took the lives of 100,000 people, has been titled In The Land of Blood and Honey and will be released on December 23 in the US.

According to a statement by Angelina Jolie, she describes the film:

"It illustrates the consequences of the lack of political will to intervene in a society stricken with conflict. The film is specific to the Bosnian War, but it's also universal. I wanted to tell a story of how human relationships and behavior are deeply affected by living in side a war.

The former Yugoslavia has a rich history of dramatic arts. The cast was extraordinary.I was privileged and honored to work with them and I am very excited for everyone to see their immense talent."

This has been such an interesting project. Let's hope it really does have a proper portrayal of the Bosnian War. We're definitely looking forward to checking out how Angie does as a director.

Okay, the Bosnian war is NOT A MEMORY to the people of THAT AREA, but, to the rest of us….. IT SEEMS LIKE ANCIENT HISTORY, if remembered at all! But AS FOR THE STORY of a Serbian Man/Bosnian Woman???? We have had NOVELS, MOVIES, POEMS, ETC. written through the AGES about the 'STAR CROSSED LOVERS' 'eternal love' From Helen of Troy-The 'face' that launched a 1000 ships (homer's odessey) and onward…. Minor 'wars' like the Jets and the Sharks in WEST SIDE STORY to Real Wars… We have movies about lovers from the North and South in the Civil War, Opposite sides in the World Wars, Jews and Muslims, In Northern Ireland, Protesants and Catholics to the girl who plays a twin in Harry Potter whose brother and father were plotting to KILL HER for dating A NON muslim(Hindu?) in London. This Jolie story is HARDLY ORIGINAL, NEW, ETC. and Jolie sounds like she is going a song and a dance to sell it

I am looking forward to seeing this film. Based on Angelina's description, the film explores a subject that has often been in my thoughts — how are people who live in a war able to carry on with their lives. I believe a film that sets out to explore this subject matter deserves some attention … and its director, at minimum, the benefit of the doubt.

    Highly anticipated? Doubt it.

Sounds just weird, glad she didn't break up any marriages while in Bosnia.

The Bosnian war is not a distant memory or irrelevant. The war ended in 2005. It was the worst genocide since WW11 and it happened as the international community stood by. This kind of atrocity takes generations to heal. I smell a flop too because of the sensitive topic she chose, that could be interpreted as exploitative and doubts around her experience as a director.

Careful Perez, I think you hired someone who can spell inneresting correctly…

I don't think such a sensitive issue should be exploited like this for entertainment value. Hopefully she's at least respectful about this, though I have trouble thinking she respects anything but money.

Did no one read that she was going to direct this? I will hold my opinion to see how she does Directing the Bosnian film . Before you jump down my throat , I do not respect Angelina as a Actress or Mother , However her work thru the United Nations gives her some credibility.

I dont understand why people are saying it is a distant war and memory…the Holocaust is waaaaaaay more distant, bit apparently its ojay to make movies about it every friggin year. The serbian war may have been years ago, however the memory is still alive and a lot of mothers dont even know where their children are burried. True this is set in serbian war, however as she said the subject is universal, look around you, wars are still VERY MUCH HERE. Angie thank you for remembering an often understated tragedy.

is this going to be yet another antiserb film? *rolls eyes*

I don't think she's exploiting anything. As someone who comes from a conflict ridden area, I think making movies about certainly raises awareness about the whole issue
