Jon Stewart Vs. Bill O'Reilly: Common Edition

| Filed under: Jon StewartMedia MinutePolitikBill O'ReillyMichelle Obama

Last week, we were very pleased with Jon Stewart when he slammed Fox News for their arguments as to why Common shouldn't have been invited to the White House for Michelle Obama's poetry event.

Now, Stewart has taken on Fox News again in a debate with Bill O'Reilly (above), and of course he totally obliterates O'Reilly's argument!

Way to go, Jon! As is often the case, we are proud!

Who do U side with? Team Stewart or Team O'Reilly?

Let's see, Common raps about killing Bush and this is ok in your eyes?

  2. 2

Obliterates? Hmmm, as usual you were wearing your Liberal Only glasses. The debate was a good one on both sides. I call this one a toss up!

  3. 3

O'Reilly's team should of done their homework on others singers and cop killing songs, to me he's just another racist. (on this one) TEAM STEWART!

  4. 4

Lol hardly obliterating. Jon Stewart is still just a comedian on a fake news show and we should listen to him why? Silly and quite pointless.

  5. 5

I think this is just political posturing, there's more important issue that need to be address that are alot more critical to our country than the two sides arguing over a fucking poem. this country cant afford to be distracted by this kind of bullshit from either side wake up .

Re: understudy3 – In what lyrics does Common talk about Killing Bush??? Seriously, I feel like folks who are ignorant of his body of work and are only getting there information from selective news sources are doing themselves an injustice and are coming off looking really stupid. O'Reilly needs to stop his rants about singers who side with convicted felons going to the white house because he just doesn't have any ground here. I think the only reason Common is being sensationalized is because he is a black rapper and poet as opposed to folk singer or rock musician. Its really troubling to me. White America has no idea how many Black Americans sympathize with Shakur and Mumia, and feel that their actions were positive steps towards the black empowerment and civil rights movement. Be against it all you want, but that is how it is, and you can't knock someone for having their own opinions even if you don't agree.

  7. 7

    I love jon!

  8. 8

Re: LizardKinG – What issues are more critical than talking about poems? Could it be the steady 12% unemployment rate since Barry took power? No, you're probably talking about $5 a gallon gasoline that everybody is fearing this summer. Just kidding! I know you're talking about Barry's three, count 'em THREE wars that he is running. Those wars ain't cheap but Barry would rather the Iraqis get a new hospital/freeway than Americans. WORST PRESIDENT EVER! Team Bill O'Reilly.

  9. 9

Re: Eldridge Cleaver – everything you just complained about with barack obama was just as bad- IF NOT WORSE than when bush was in the white house

  10. 10

Re: Eldridge Cleaver – You are a real moron. Obama didn't start the 2 wars in Iraq an in Afghanistan George Bush did, get your facts Straight. and the country was already on the verge of bankruptcy while George was serving as a lame duck. Selective memory is no way to go through life.

  11. 11

Worst President ever really? I was on unemployment JAck ass for 2 years and it had nothing to do with OBAMA. The economy was already in the shitter. W left just in time. I hate politics talk, but when people spout stupid shit out of their mouth I have to comment. Gas prices always rise at this time. People just should just shut up. O looked stupid, JS schooled him in that argument. O'Reilly makes some horrible comments and puts people on the sideline mostly, but he actually let JS talk, wonder why?

  12. 12

It was actually a pretty good debate. Totally obliterates? You have got to be the most narrow minded person on earth.

  13. 13

Stewart almost says, "I'm Gangster", however recovered. Whew. That would not have looked good. Love Stewart. He's awesome.

  14. 14

So O'reilly has no problem with Bono, Dylan, or Sringsteen, but Common does the EXACT same thing, and suddenly its a national crisis. Hmm, I wonder why Common would be singled out. Lets play "one of these things is not like the other". Could it be because unlike the aforementioned, Common is black? Was there ever any doubt that O'reilly is a racist? A perverse, entitled, falafel loving, racist.

  15. 15

Re: LizardKinG – Can you explain how deficit has gone up at twice the rate now that Obama is president. When will someone stop blaming bush and realize that good ol celebrity barack is pushing us further in the hole..
Didn't he say he would bring the troops home? Oh yeah he sent 30,000 more overseas.

  16. 16

Bottom line is that Fox is filled with racism. Period. All driven by the Murdoch agenda.

  17. 17

    Team Stewart of course!

  18. 18

Re: nicky45 – Remember that when Obama took office we were just starting to see the effects of the recession. and In my opinion its the American people that are to blame for this mess were all in and we better stop arguing and start uniting or were all gonna be shit out of luck.

  19. 19

Boo fucking yah, Bill O' "I wack off with a Loofah" Reilly. I've never seen him so quiet in my life, Jon made him his bitch on his own show.

  20. 20

jon stewart brings more common sense to news that ANY "news" show on fox. i would say HE is a real reporter; reporter's on fox just lie their assess off until people believe them. it's a real shame they (fox) basically don't present both sides of any story - insinuating that americans are too dumb to come to their own conclusions. something that john steward does everyday on his "fake show" (which is not fake by any means).

  21. 21

Re: LizardKinG – Actually it started long before that, the current banking system started in the civil war era and then took total control with the gold standard thus turning money into instant debt. The second world war was long seen as the cure for the great depression, thus when recessions happen, wars begin and debt soars. Bankers are fuckers like that. Oddly enough it was the bankers and the US government Bin Laden targeted, though he was a fucker too.

  22. 22

    Team O'Reilly!

  23. 23

where is the next clip with the "other argument"?

  24. 24

Another batch of ignorance spread to middle America thanks to Bill O'Reilly. I can't say I love Jon Stewart but at least his mind is open and he sees issues impartially.

  25. 25

    I agrees with post #s 2 & 5. It was a great debate!

  26. 26

Re: LizardKinG – You have to remember that selective memory is what keeps fox news ass deep in viewers, if the people that sit and watch that channel cared about factual reporting they would change the channel.

  27. 27

John Stewart is the shit and delivers facts but with humor, HOWEVER — THEY ARE STILL FACTS and he is always on point on every issue not just this one. Love John Stewart

  28. 28

I do not agree that Jon Stewart won, at all. It was a good debate, and I do not necessarily agree with either men. But I do think it was inappropriate to invite him to the white house.

  29. 29

    Re: Breeze

O'Reilly is on a fake news program as well. LOL!

  30. 30

    Re: Eldridge Cleaver

Do you jack off while looking at your avatar? I'll bet you do. Stupid piece of shit.

  31. 31

good thing there is a thing such as the internet for people to hide behind because you people who support o"reilly are fake. people who support o'reilly are ignorant and extremist and probably wouldnt be on a gay mans website. go away, just like all of fox news

  32. 32

I hate when people shrug him off because "He's a comedian on a fake news show" So what? The man still knows his politics. He is still pretty well informed, & he knows how to deliver.

  33. 33

Perez, you are "very pleased" that the White House invited someone that supports a COP KILLER????????????????????? What the hell is wrong with you Perez??????

  34. 34

And Jon skirted the whole COP KILLING issue in his commentary.. Yeah, that shows real guts!!!

  35. 35

Re: LizardKinG – Agreed. Good point. I truely hope that one day a conservative can speak out against obama without being called racist. That argument is old and weak. I personally want condi rice to run, so some obama supporter calling me racist for thinking he sucks is way off base.

  36. 36

Re: Eldridge Cleaver – First, there has been nothing steady about the unemployment rate. it is at 8.7% not 12. Hovering around nine. Second no new wars were started under Obama. Third you see to have that selective memory that republicans have that forgets how we got in this mess. 8 years of Bush. Now in less than 4 years, Obama has brought unemployment down, killed Osama bin Laden, helped bail us out of a recession, and has tackled dormant issues such as don't ask dont tell. And have some resepct; you are not his friend or family do not call him "Barry"

  37. 37

Oh republicans, your ignorance never fails to amuse me. Common had every right to go to the White House as anybody else. His poems are his freedom of speech. So not letting him go to the White House, would be like saying everyone with free speech isn't allowed to be there. I think fox news just needed some ammunition to start ganging up on Obama for. It's the stupidest controversy ever. We have a shitty economy, and fox news is just bitching about a rapper going to the White House. Bunch of dumb asses. Team Stewart all the way!

  38. 38

    Go John!!!

  39. 39

    Re: LizardKinG – Exactly

  40. 40

"People like me". Just say "white", we know it's what you mean.

  41. 41

If Obama were a republican we wouldn't be having this discussion. I also think Bill's ratings go up with Jon is in the house. Love Jon Stewart!

  42. 42

It's alright to talk about killing Bush, but what if he talked about killing gays. You are a hypocrite Perez.

  43. 43

Re: cap chick – Probably because the issue wasn't actually about cop killing…it was about rap lyrics regarding cop killing, and the support Common made for an alleged cop killer. The point isn't that someone once killed a cop; it's whether or not someone should have to face punishment or persecution for believing someone was wrongly convicted of a crime, and supporting them because of that belief. Whether or not Common believes someone convicted of a crime is innocent should have no bearing on whether or not he can be invited to the White House. He wasn't invited for his political or legal views; he was invited to a poetry based event because he is a poet.

  44. 44

JON STEWART ALL THE WAY , EVERYDAY!!!!!!!!!

  45. 45

Re: nicky45 – there is nothing racist speaking out against Obama when there is well informed concern and disagreement about his policy. conservatives are called racists when instead of that they make up lies to attack him personally with racial undertone.that has been happning since he was elected surely you see the difference.

  46. 46

Re: MissJosette – Every president in the history of the united states has had lies and propaganda against them from the opposting side… surely you see that. Obama is given special treatment because of his color. It should not matter, and by the way the facts are overwhelming that obama has done nothing since coming into office

  47. 47

Sorry I can't support cop killing. Jon Stewart would support the food stamp President no matter what he did.

  48. 48

NO ONE LIKED Bush…but because Common is a public figure and said it in a poem YEARS AGO…people are getting butt hurt? Really? It's just a poem, it's not like he went out and DID it. GAH!!!

  49. 49

Re: nicky45 – Sorry-no president and especially no FIRST LADY have been subject to as many unfounded lies and personal vitriol as the Obamas have. Not ever. Much of this is absolutely racially motivated to deny that suggests you think racism no longer exists or something else IDK. When you say he get special treatment because of his color…wow! *shake my head*
just trying to point out the difference because of what you questioned.

  50. 50

Re: nicky45 – Also for you to say Obama has done nothing is ridiculous and disinformation. This is what happens to someone who watches only fox news. Just sayin

  51. 51

Re: nicky45 – So there are plenty of things to criticise president Obama about. Learn the truth and facts-argue your point objectively then maybe nobody will call you a racist. (I'm not calling you one only giving insight)

  52. 52

Re: wonderfulectric – You must be hopped up on glue to think that the unemployment rate was this bad during the Bush years. Bush only ran two wars. Barry is running three wars. And gas was only pricey for a few months when a huge hurricane "obliterated" the Gulf Coast. How far is your head jammed up your ass that you can't see things are much worse with Barry in office?

  53. 53

Re: LizardKinG – I never wrote that Barry started three wars. I wrote that he is currently running three wars. That cannot be denied. Barry started his very own war for oil when he bombed Libya though. The economy was in the shitter when Barry came in office but he's had 2 1/2 years to fix it. He has done his absolute worst to fix the economy. Where is the hope and change? Is it under the bus with his white relatives and Rev Wright?
