Kirk Cameron Vs. Stephen Hawking

| Filed under: Celebrity FeudsWacky, Tacky & True

Outspoken Christian Kirk Cameron is a little ticked off at unspoken genius Stephen Hawking who has said Heaven is merely a "fairy story for people afraid of the dark" in this recent interview.

Kirk recently fired back at the blasphemous comment (in Kirk's mind at least), saying:

"Professor Hawking is heralded as 'the genius of Britain,' yet he believes in the scientific impossibility that nothing created everything and that life sprang from non-life. Why should anyone believe Mr. Hawking's writings if he cannot provide evidence for his unscientific belief that out of nothing, everything came?"

If nothing else, we're kind of confused, but then again, we're not super geniuses and have never starred in Left Behind.

Kirk has also dragged John Lennon into the debate, saying:

"[Hawking] says he knows there is no Heaven. John Lennon wasn't sure. He said to pretend there's no Heaven. That's easy if you try. Then he said he hoped that someday we would join him."

We're not sure if John Lennon meant join him in Heaven, so much as join his point of view, which may lead to world peace, but Kirk's point is:

"Such wishful thinking reveals John and Stephen's religious beliefs, not good science."

What side of the debate are U on? Team Heaven or Team Genius?

    He did too mention HEAVEN!

  2. 2

Funny as hell. Kirk and his sky fairy. Show me any proof, scientific or otherwise, that the sky fairy does exist. Cut's both ways Kirk.

  3. 3

I don't agree with Hawking and I think Kirk is a conservative lunatic who gives Christians a bad name.

  4. 4

    Team Hawking for the win!

  5. 5

    Kirk Cameron, what a twit.

  6. 6

Actually Heaven is mentioned in the very first line of the song… How is that for an LOLz. Maybe a little more research next time?

  7. 7

Kirk Cameron using the same BS arguments that have been debunked plenty of times. There is plenty of evidence, just, you have to acknowledge that it is there. I'm terribly sorry long scientific "hard" papers don't appeal to him, but that doesn't mean they don't exist.

  8. 8

    Team Genius

  9. 9

Yes, the song says, "Imagine there's no Heaven." Once again Perez, you are an idiot. You and Kirk CaMORON should get together and flick boogers at each others' helmets on the short yellow bus.

  10. 10

”he cannot provide evidence for his unscientific belief that out of nothing, everything came?"
And what evidence do you provide? The bible? LOL

  11. 11

"Imagine there's no heaven; it's easy if you try. No Hell below us; above us only sky." –Imagine, by John Lennon

  12. 12

Um, yes, John Lennon does mention heaven in "Imagine" just as Kirk Cameron said. It's the opening verse of the song, for crying out loud!

    "Imagine there's no Heaven
    It's easy if you try
    No hell below us
    Above us only sky
    Imagine all the people
    Living for today"

  13. 13

"Imagine there's no heaven" is the first line of the song…

  14. 14

So Kirk Camerons is apparently hiding empirical evidence that proves the existance of God? Nice double standard.

  15. 15

To the genius writing this, since it's certainly not Perez.
Imagine there's no Heaven is the first line of the song. So, there's that.

Kirk shows that he doesn't understand the singularity concept. It doesn't presuppose "nothing". Perhaps he, like you writers, should actually take a few seconds to research something before showing your stupidity to the entire literate world.

  16. 16

yes john is talking about joining hin in his belief of peace and love, regardless of religious belief.
kirk is welcome to his views, and his belief in some type of god doesn't explain the beginning of anything. what was there before god? (insert convenient answere here: "he just always was, and always will be.)
i think there is much more evidence in hawkig's beliefs than adam pulling out a rib to create a woman, or that on wednesday god made trees. mercy.

  17. 17

Wait… what? Kirk Cameron was talking about "Imagine" and the FIRST line of the song is "Imagine there's no Heaven". Pretty sure that counts as John Lennon having mentioned it.

  18. Fosca says – reply to this

    Hawking forever!!!

  19. 19

I'm going with Hawking. Science over fiction any day.

  20. 20

i don't see why anyone thinks that heaven isn't mentioned in "imagine'. of course it is. john's point is that we don't need that concept of heaven/hell/god to have peace and love in the world. please

  21. 21

Actually, Lennon DOES mention heaven in Imagine. Honey, the song STARTS with Imagine there's no heaven…. it's all good, Perez, I still love you!! :D

  22. 22

    "Imagine there's no Heaven
    It's easy if you try
    No Hell below us
    Above us only sky."
    Yep, that'd be a mention, Perez ;-)
However, this rant by Kirk Cameron is rather ridiculous. First and foremost, what the actual fuck does John Lennon have to do with Stephen Hawking? O_o
But secondly, I love how he keeps calling it "unscientific"… because belief in a Big Sky Daddy is…

  23. 23

    Team Hawking!!!!!!!!!!

  24. 24

  25. 25

Just like everyone else pointed out…Heaven is mentioned in the opening line…I used to be a fan of www.perezhilton.com then I realized whoever writes this shit is dumber than a box of rocks and doesn't understand the term RESEARCH.

  26. 26

The Bible is mythology, written by men to put and keep people in fear of superiors and hopefully keep in social order. end of story. you don't hear anyone trying to prove - or debunk - the existence of Zeus, who was the ruler of ALL gods, do you?? TEAM FUCKING HAWKING!!

as for Lennon, he was a deep thinker who gave credence to many theories - but then again, he also called Yoko "mother".

  27. 27

Team neither. It's stupid to pick a side on a stupid debate that'll never be resolved.

  28. 28

How…seriously how dumb can you be Perez? Heaven is mentioned in the FIRST GODDAMN LINE of Imagine "LOLz." Oh & that Kool-Aid must taste mighty fine eh Kirk? People like him scare the shit out of me. He's way to old to have an imaginary friend.

  29. 29

So, you can claim whatever you want as long as it's labeled "Religion", but attacking Science is OK? Fanatics are so full of it, especially the Monotheist with their Magical Sky-Daddy.

  30. 30

    "out of nothing, everything came?"

Hawking never made that statement, or came close to suggesting that, Cameron. You're carbon based entity, period. You always will be. Now go sell some more snake oil to the ignorant people that wish to believe in it.

  31. 31

    Re: Da_Rev – hahaha

  32. 32

Regardless of the argument above, I think Kirk Cameron is a whack job, 100% and he scares me

  33. 33

if kirk cameron it the noted authority and leading spokesman for your organization, you got big, big problems

  34. jham says – reply to this

Faith is just that - FAITH. It's the belief in a higher power. And thankfully, everybody in our country at least, has the right to practice their faith, however different from another's belief system. Stephen Hawking is entitled to his opinion. It is an OPINION - it is not scientific fact - whether Heaven exists or not. It has not been proven either way (however, there have been some people who claim to have had near death experiences). Nevertheless, Kirk Cameron doesn't need to get up in arms and Stephen Hawking doesn't need choose words that are intentionally meant to belittle and demean another's belief system. I think my advise to both would be to grow up.

  35. 35

    Kirk Cameron is a fruitcake.
And at no time did Stephen Hawking ever claim that something came from nothing. Nor does any other atheist. Atheists just don't believe invisible magical BEINGS have anything to do with it.
Someone with as enormous a lack of an understanding of science as Kirk Cameron have no business declaring what is "scientific" and what is not. He's a moron.

  36. mw says – reply to this

Heaven! Google "near death experiences" and start reading peoples accounts…it will change your life!

  37. 37

I had to create a username just to say the following:

You guys have got to be the most stupid ignorant people on the face of the planet.
Did anyone bother to actually read the post?

"We're not sure if John Lennon meant join him in Heaven, so much as join his point of view"

No where in the post does anyone claim that John Lennon's lyric did not say anything about heaven. Jesus f'n Christ. This world is doomed. People. . . please don't breed.

  38. 38

Re: deedeers – Where in the post does it say he didn't genius.

  39. 39

Kirk is a fucking idiot! If you think Gods real you're a fucking dumb ass.

  40. 40

Re: hover me charlie – Wow seriously how dumb are you. No where in the post does it claim that those are not the lyrics. Jesus, read the freaking article.

  41. 41

This is what is so frustrating about religion and religious literalists in particular. Nobody has concrete 'proof' that there isn't a God even though Science and common sense are the prevailing factors that shape our existence. Even the most archaic & convoluded beliefs about a talking snake, Noah's Ark and walking on water must be 'right' bc we can't 'disprove' it. How do you scientifically disprove an existence built from delusion and illogic? No matter how much scientific discovery has proven the origins of 95% of the world, you will never be able to 'disprove' God or stop religious ppl's believing that God always came before your proof and this was part of 'His plan'.

  42. 42

I love how a christian idiot is going to attempt to argue against one of the smartest people in the world. Thats funny on its own, That said "Why should anyone believe Mr. Hawking's writings if he cannot provide evidence for his unscientific belief that out of nothing, everything came?""

A typical idiotic christian. They think accepting things with no proof is more logical than dismissing them without proof ROFLMAOROFLHAHA

  43. 43

Re: mw – You know theres literally a hundred scientifically explained medical reasons why someone would see a bright light and what not when they are dead/dying right? But, you're believe in god so science is obviously not something you take into account.

  44. 44

perezis not saying heaven isn't in the song, he'ssaying john meant to join him in believing there is no heaven. why doesn't anybody get that

  45. 45

Re: mw – what does that mean or prove. whatever is going through a persons mind while near death has no proof or even a hint of proof that there is an afterlife. they are just thoughts in your head like a dream.

  46. 46

The only "proof" these whack jobs have for Heaven is an archaic text… Team Hawking.

  47. 47

"Heaven! Google "near death experiences" and start reading peoples accounts…it will change your life!"

Hawking! Google "long suffering death" and start reading people's accounts…it will change your life!

  48. 48

Re: hoochpit – really sad if you believe this is all your get in life…what is there to look forward for you if you don't believe in an afterlife….really sad.

  49. 49

Re: MissJosette – Hope hell is real sweetheart because you will get to hang out there with your non-believer friends.

  50. 50

Is it a bad thing to believe there is a Heaven? No one knows for sure and will never know until they're dead. While I'm alive I like to think that I will go to Heaven. It makes death more acceptable and motivates me to live a good life. Better safe than sorry!

  51. 51

Team Kim Richards went FULL retard.

  52. 52

Not everyone has the gift of Faith

  53. 53

Cameron is a lunatic people should just not give him any time of day to spew his nonsense!

  54. 54

Re: Team Kim Richards – i feel the same for people like you that think life is some contest to get into heaven. obviously you're relgious. i'd like to know what faith you prescribe to, and how you feel about other religious people that don't share your faith.
and i'd like to know what you think will happen in "heaven". i imagine you feel your gay hating still qualifies you still for the big cloud room.

  55. 55

Re: widownixon – if you consider it a gift, that is nice and you're welcome to it. unfortunately so many of those with the gift feel the need to impart it on others. and feel your beliefs should be shared by everyone.hawkings has his belief and so does cameron. but you can't realy compare their intellect, can you?

  56. 56

Re: NayNayM – When this was first posted, perez claimed that "imagine" doesn't mention heaven at all. obviously someone caught the stupid mistake (or maybe he read some of the comments lol) and fixed it.

  57. 57

Re: friendlydaisy11 – That's sad you need motivation to live a good life. This may not apply to you, but the biggest problem I have w religious ppl is their moral superiority they have towards others. Meanwhile they need to use the crutch of religion to make them good people. I don't believe in the man in the sky and yet I live life to the fullest and treat everyone with love and respect. How does this make me less than you?

  58. 58

Re: Team Kim Richards – Well you only have 2 more days so-BYE!
    Have a nice trip :)

  59. 59

This "fight" is so unbalanced in terms of brainpower that I'm almost thinking, "Poor Kirk Cameron." Almost.

  60. 60

Okay, where did Perez say Lennon didn't mention heaven? he said "We're not sure if John Lennon meant JOIN him in Heaven, so much as join his point of view."

  61. 61

Re: friendlydaisy11 – the only thing that motivates you to be a good person is the hope that there is a heaven? thats awfully sad.

  62. 62

Stephen Hawking is a respected intellectual with an opinion that merits interest, and of course, as we all know, heaven is a fairytale for people afraid of the dark. Nobody asked that Christian dickhead to interfere in an intelligent conversation.

  63. 63

KIRK is right, Hawking is wrong on this one…ther is a GOD AND A HEAVEN ! hawking should be the one to pray that there is a HEAVEN otherwise this is as good as it going to get for him..and that sucks!, Im sure john lennon is a beliver right now. EVERYONE look up in the BIBLE ROMANS 1:22 "Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools". that one is for you Mr. Hawking hope you find wht your looking for: the LORD

  64. 64

Correct me if I am wrong ( or don't ) but that can be said about "God", aka the being that was just there…nothing created him and etc… Man in the sky with only a single book to prove that existence. Earth is a few thousand years old yet there are things on Earth that are millions of years old… Yep, Hawking is the dumb one. Obviously it is not at all correct. Slight confusion though, he believes in the Singularity and you believe in a man who has the power to create something out of nothing and yet allows us to have millions of starving people, thousands of rapes and atrocities… Yeah, good going there.

  65. 65

Hahahaha it's more like Team Doofus/FameWhore/CompletelyBonkers vs. Team Genious. Either way, Kirk Cameron is NOT the one to defend the existence of afterlife, or anything else for that matters. The man is bananas (pun intended for those of you who know what I'm talking about).
It's up to each and every person to believe what they want to believe. Just make sure you live the life you're given to the fullest and with respect for other living beings.
    My 2 cents.

  66. 66

John Lennon wrote that song to say, imagine if religion didn't cause the majority of the strife in this world. Pure and simple, peace could be achieved if we would give up all that crap. Look where we are today, there are "holy wars" being waged against this country right now. Without the mass opiate of religion (all religions, not just Christianity), that wouldn't be the case. John Lennon was an atheist people. You kids all make good points, but it would be helpful to KNOW what you're talking about before you flap your gums.

  67. 67

Wow all you non believers need to read the book of revalations….it's a shame all you people we live eternity in hell…have fun

  68. 68

Kirk can believe whatever he wants but he is wrong.

  69. 69

Steven is just angry at The Lord, that's all. Let's pray that he reconciles with Jesus before he dies because if he doen't then he will have positive proof to his own theories!

  70. 70

    team genius!!!!!

  71. 71

Ok, so how can Kirk Cameron provide any prove at all that heaven does exist?

  72. 72

Jesus freaks always have the same moronic look on their faces that Kirk sports above. It's the direct and natural result of not having a brain.

  73. 73

Re: Cooper1985 – If it means not living with you, we will.

  74. 74

Kirk Cameron sounds like an idiot… Doesn't he have it backwards? Isn't it the hardcore Christians who believe that everything magically appeared out of nowhere via God?

  75. 75

Poor Kirk Cameron. Imagine living in a world where you believe a book like the Bible contains truth, when in actuality it is just a book of fairie tales meant to steer people towards a more humane existance. There has never been proof of a heaven or hell. Period. It is a matter of faith. And for someone to say that they are 100% sure that it exists, than I think they should consider taking a course on World Religions at their local university, because all religions are just fairie tales.

  76. 76

Yes there is a heaven. Who cares about conservatives, liberals, whatever. There is a heaven period.

  77. 77

Re: Serena Loves Mario – "The only "proof" these whack jobs have for Heaven is an archaic text." So if the Bible was written yesterday, you'd be more prone to believe it? Um, no, pretty sure that's not the case. Point in case: Mormonism. It began around 1830. Part of the reason so many people doubt Mormon beliefs is precisely because it's so recent. I have a lot more faith in something with history behind it. That being said, 95% of you are so disrespectful of the beliefs of others. I don't go around calling you atheists a bunch of dumbasses. I let you believe what you believe and I don't judge you for it. I guess it's too much to ask that you be decent in return. The hateful spirit of this thread which is being perpetuated by disrespectful people is pretty damn sad.

  78. 78

I think the bible is a story book, written by men to scare people into believing what they wanted people to believe. While I may not agree with Kirk, I respect his right to have his beliefs, but also expect MY beliefs to be respected, which are far different than his and most Christians. If there is a God, and we are made in His image, then God is every race, colour, gender, sexual orientation, ect, ect. I think heaven or hell is your own making while you are here on earth. I actually told this to the minister who's secretary I am, didn't go over well, but at least he stopped asking me when I was going to come to church! On that note, judgement day is May 21st, so watch out all you sinners! hahaha

  79. 79

It NEVER says Lennon doesn't mention heaven, could everyone that is talking about Imagine lyrics please read the post again?
"We're not sure if John Lennon meant join him in Heaven, so much as join his point of view, which may lead to world peace"
    This is a valid opinion.

I just smiled when Hawking made his statement, because the great scientist doesn't know everything. I flatlined in surgery and then came back a completely different person.
I know something Stephen Hawking doesn't know, (how about that) and I know it for certain. He's in for a giant face palm down the road.

Re: NookiesWA – What I experienced was a whole lot more than a white light. I could fill five pages. I'm aware of the physiological aspects of the dying brain theories. I've researched this for years inside and out because it happened to me.
From experience I think there's more. I'm not particularly religious.

  82. 82

If I looked like Hawking, I would probably be an atheist too. What a sad, shriveled, ugly little man. Someone should really put him out of his misery.

  83. 83

To the people wonderingwhy the beggining comments keep saying that the word Heaven WAS in the song….

When Perez posted this it orrignally said "There isnt even a MENTION of Heaven in the song". Obviously that mistake has been changed.

  84. 84

Re: BeautifulDisaster311 – What does one's appearance have to do with atheism? Atheists are people who simply don't believe in God, usually due to their education - they know how science works and know that God doesn't need to have any part in the formation of the universe.
Religion is simply an aspect of culture that hasn't yet died out. Ancient man was curious about his surroundings, and without the scientific knowledge to explain how he arrived on Earth, he invented a creator. It's as simple as that. Some of us have educated ourselves and don't feel the need to worship something that doesn't exist, like Heaven, simply to make ourselves feel better about dying. Why would I want to give myself false hope and think I will live beyond this life? It would be pointless. Atheism is born out of education, not ignorance.

  85. 85

occam's razor… compare intellectual capacity of each subject. Compare mental well being of each subject. Compare proof, and data of each point made. Include Occam's Razor.

sorry kirk. The truth is so simple it hurts.

  86. 86

So the guy from Growing Pains is our prophet now…..

  87. 87

I like how Kirk wants proof from Hawking but has absolutely no proof himself to support his beliefs. Of course he's going to be pissed because Hawking is trying to disprove Cameron's way of life, but if you want to fight back, dont' use evidence that you yourself can't support for your side…Lawyered!

  88. 88

I'm with Team Kirk!!! Have FAITH, BELIEVE in something . . .

  89. kjen says – reply to this

Being a Christian is about having faith…faith in something you can't prove exists. I believe in heaven and what do I have to lose IF it doesn't exist? Nothing. IF it does exist then I have everything to gain, and that's worth having faith in believing heaven is a place and death isn't the end.

  90. kjen says – reply to this

    Re: @v@
I believe most people who say they've seen beyond. I would imagine it would give you a sense of peace, it would me. I had a friend whose uncle was electrocuted under a house while working and he came out of it a changed man. He lost both arms in the accident but when he finally was able to speak he told his family he'd been to HELL and the devil was a beautiful person, but that it was a miserable place he knew he had to get out of, he spoke of the feeling of evil that was there, not that it LOOKED like what we'd imagine. He said it was worse than we could imagine. Whatever he saw while he was laying under that house made him change his life. He gave up drinking, he started going to church, taking his family to church, and he started telling his story to people who would listen. So, believe or don't believe but whatever he saw was enough to change his life for the better.

  91. 91

    people, what are your problems?
are there so much hate in your life that you need to judge people according to their beliefs?
are you all numb to the cruelty of the world that you can't even accept any hope of peace after life?
if people believe that there is heaven and acts good and peacefully on earth so they can go there, is it bad that there are people who helps others? do not hate other people much? succumb to alcoholism, adultery or any other things?
or if it doesn't happen to be, should you be sad and regret doing something good?
isn't it better to hope? or is it better to gloat?

  92. 92

    I'll take science over fairytales.

  97. 97

Cameron is an absolute idiot and isn't fit to lick Hawking's chair wheels.

  98. 98
