Soap Fans Protest Outside The Lincoln Center Over All My Children And One Life To Live Cancelations!

| Filed under: TV NewsWacky, Tacky & TrueSad Sad

We guess people are having a hard time letting go!

Now that long-running soap operas All My Children and One Life To Live have officially gotten the axe by ABC, soap opera fans started a bit of a riot outside of the the Lincoln Center yesterday (above), protesting the new new daytime line-up - which will now feature reality series The Chew and The Revolution - while advertisers and upfront guests entered the building yesterday!

According to a brochure some are handing out, the replacement shows are merely "glorified infomercials appropriate for late-night basic cable channels, not for a major broadcast network."

Nobody likes to see their favorite shows canceled, but it's a part of life, guys!

Let's try and suck it up and move on, shall we?

Good grief… get a fucking life.

  2. 2

something needs to be done to save the soaps… ABC sucks

  3. 3

Let the past in the past, Live the present PLEASE!!!!

  4. 4

Suck it up? That is your response?? A few weeks ago you yourself posted that you wished AMC would continue on, contradict yourself much?! Anyhow, these particular soap operas have been on for years, and I think the powers that be have forgotten that many people have been followersfor years. They say viewership is down….yet they forget that many people have had to take on jobs to help with tier family finances, yet they DVR the episodes and watch them later, or on watch on SoapNet. I myself have been a viewer of AMC for more years that I should admit, since I was 11; I will be 50 in a few months. The top brass should be made aware of what the viewers want, they want their soaps. There have been other instances of shows that have been cancelled to be brought back or picked up by another station. So if they want to protest, peacefully it is their right……It gives them hope. In conclusion: if they werent protesting you wouldnt have had another blurb on your page so maybe you should suck it up

  5. 5

if they weren't replacing it with something so dull and awful, I doubt people would be this pissed.

Re: HateMachine – Well said, mario is a total hypocrite.

  7. 7

People " Get a life " those soaps are so Yesterday now , they should be gone long time ago!

American Soaps should learn from Spanish soaps … One Soap, history of 6 months ends, then it's replace it for a brand new one ( the cast, new history ) I mean keep it fresh !

Suck it up and move on? We aren't talking about Lost here, we aren't talking about shows that have been on for 3 seasons. 84 years of television history is being tossed out the door for more mindless drivel. Yes we all know you love Bad Girls Club and all that crap you rave about day in and out but some people like actual entertainment with character driven storylines. so much for you not bullying people, what is this article about if not bullying the soap viewers?

  9. 9

Screw you Perez. Move on?? Tell that to all the people who lost their jobs. Also, go fuck yourself.

  10. 10

Get a life Sally. Soap operas are drivel.

  11. 11

i'm sure if glee got cancelled you'd be out there protesting.

  12. 12

Some people needs to get a fucking life.

I'm with them! ABC SUCKS!!! Who gives a damn about some fucked up reality shows?!?!?! They are so stupid these days. Soaps have been around for years. ABC will never do good again with the soaps gone..I sure as hell will not watch ABC anymore!

  14. 14

Shut up Perez! Pinche Mendiga, Nalgas Wangas, faya, Qual Quera!
These shows are actually good. They just needed to teak them and move the story line a little faster and there you go.
So Perez keep your cock sucking mouth shut on this one Pendja!

  15. 15

Perez your attitude is really demeaning and inappropriate! Those of us who have been watching for over 40 years , beiing loyal to ABC I might add, have every right to voice our dislike!

ABC is replacing these with tripe and we want to see ACTING!!!! It's a crappy way tot reat loyal fans and you are now doing it to us as well!

  16. 16

just b/c you like the stories doesn't mean you have no life i am very disappointed in them cutting these two stories especially since they are having some really good story lines going on…man tv is becoming more and more stupid i can't believe the garbage they are puttin on tv…..

  17. 17

You are a hack and will be irrelevant soon enough. You cannot speak to soap fans like that!

  18. 18

Great job fellow soap fans! Keep up the good fight for All My Children, One Life to Live and General Hospital! I don't plan on moving on just because a bunch of idiot executives tell me to.

  19. 19

It would be an acceptable part of life if no one was watching these shows, but that is not the case. Because the select few with Neilsen boxes decide for all of us it is unfair. We DVR, watch online and use soapnet.com and we don't count. Frons is an egotistical ass that believes he can "train" viewers. He says we no longer need escapism during the daytime, yet the ABC primetime new shows are ALL soap operas! I am sure Perez that if Madonna or Gaga decided they no longer wanted to entertain you would be as upset as we are! We are losing something that we have enjoyed for years for no reason other than Brian Frons uneducated decisions.

  20. 20

You people are not worth arguing with. This is how it is ~ you guys can all watch what you want, but leave us to watch what we like best. If we choose to fight for this, so what. Let us! We don't enjoy watching reality shows, talk shows or the tons of blood and gore they have on now. We work, come home to cook, clean, and raise our kids. So what if we enjoy watching a soap opera at night while we finally get to relax!! No your not worth it!

  21. 21

Why should I suck it up and move on? I have been a loyal fan of ABC and the ABC soaps most of my life. I helped them build their ratings. Now I can help take down their ratings. Yes, the soap fans have this power when we all come together and this is what we are doing now. This is why ABC and the media really should take us seriously.

  22. 22

Re: sockie – watch your language! that's what I mean. this is what our world is coming to. crummy language, crummy movies, crummy reality shows, crummy talk shows. and people get mad if we want to fight for what we like? hahahah, um I don't think so! At least we have the guts to do exactly that.

  23. 23

You really should have taken your own advice when you got bitched slapped you hypocritical ass! You go in what ever direction the camera winds blow you when it was originally announced you were sympathetic now you are just regurgitating what Wendy Williams said in an effort to stay hip and trendy. You are parasitical succubus that makes his living from other peoples misfortune and will be gone faster than the Pacer! Remember those? Nobody else does either and soon that will be YOU!

  24. 24

Inasmuch as no one can accurately gauge the programming landscape post-Oprah, what's the hurry to change/alter the programming/content - these shows still garner BIG ad revenues!!! … "Course of least resistance" from a business perspective would be to cut CORPORATE salaries first and then see what the market shift in ratings is prior to canceling programming, notwithstanding the poor business decision to market any show with a host who's already involved in bicoastal litigation [Batali's two "tip-stealing" lawsuits involving his NYC and LA restaurants], and let's not forget the bad press to follow from the union(s) these cancellations affect … Can't help but think that ABC/Disney's decision to cancel AMC/OLTL is the programming equivalent of NBC's decision to cancel the original Star Trek …

  25. 25

How would you like this "bullying is a part of life suck it up and move on" not so great now is it? Why is everyone acting like trying to save a beloved show is bad? Was it so bad when Chuck was fought for? What about Jericho? Why should we sit back and let reality shows, talk and game shows take over?

  26. 26

Guess when your just a thing of the past we will tell you just suck it up. I've lost a 70+ year soap and a 50+ year soap already. I'm still not over it, invested 20 years of my life watching those shows. This is more than just soaps, the actresses and actors the cast members getting the boot for stupid shows, that are cheap to produce and contain people with no talent and the nastier the better. I can talk, I can eat food in front of people and say how great it taste. WE ARE TIRED OF TALK SHOWS AND REALITY SHOWS!!! Please quit booting the talented people for garbage.

  27. 27

Re: sockieRe: sockie – I have a life and still choose to spend part of it trying to save a genre I love. Thank you for your concern.

  28. 28

Re: Electro_storm – The shows are still airing everyday so I guess I am living in the present it is the future I am fighting for.

  29. 29

Re: DSummerfanRe: DSummerfan – You may be right that the Spanish format would work better however they did not replace the soaps with an updated format or another type soap they replaced them with programing that can be seen all day and night on various cable channels.

  30. 30

I know it's just acting and TV. But, when Marty threw Natalie's arse off that roof that was great for me. No more whining from Natalie. No I did not want her to die. Just shut up.
She is the only one I will not mess. Love John, Jessica and Vicky! But, Marty you are a very bad girl!!! JMO!

  31. 31

First: Wacky, tacky, and sad? You need to step away from your mirror! Next: Pathetic? Wait that's still you in the mirror…We soap fans can get over a show being cancelled that we may watch once a week, for a couple of yrs run time, but that's not the case at all. YOUR GRANDMOTHER (Ok maybe you were hatched a bad egg), probably watched soaps at one time as they are a genre unlike any other that has lasted over 40 yrs! Can you say that about your favorite show? Or even your favorite kind of show? Aside from the fact they are cancelling something unique and not on every channel 24/7, the actors and actresses are real people with families that interact and do fun things with and for their fans. We support their events, books, cruises, and so much more! Thousands of cast, crew, and more in NY and CA are losing their jobs to be replaced with shows that are a dime a dozen. They won't have us running home to watch a piece of chicken being cooked differently! We are fighting for a genre that's different from any new show you might watch a few months, fighting for thousands of jobs, our friends, and much more than your warped brain can possibly even comprehend!!! CHEW ON THIS!!!

  32. 32

Go soap fans! All My Children Rules! The Chew and The Revolution sound like losing substitutes.

  33. 33

Come on Perez, are you that jealous that you were never invited on these soaps that you have to criticize us soap fans? I think it's sad, that you have to say something and honey, I have a life. So, trust me when I say that your not bringing me down with your words.

  34. 34

You really are a first class jackass. Do you not realize that virtually every show on television follows the soap opera format.
Also, why is it that jerks such as yourself mock people who enjoy the genre of soap operas? Fans of soap operas come from all walks of life. Some are more educated than others. Why are do you feel superior to soap opera fans? I don't mock you with your ridiculous hair style and manner of dress. To each his own. Get off of your high horse.

  35. 35

Oh, and one more thing, you and your groupies can go FUCK YOURSELVES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  36. @v@ says – reply to this

When something matters to you, you put it all over your website with penned indignation. If these folks want to protest to try to reinstate their soaps, more power to them. If someone told rainbow boy, 'Nobody likes to see their favorite shows/gay legislation canceled, but it's a part of life, guys! Let's try and suck it up and move on, shall we?', you would feel condescended to and disregarded. Sure, it's just a microcosm, but its their microcosm.

  37. 37

ABC: Do you not remember "NEW COKE"?

  38. 38

I remember watching the soaps when I became a teenager. My mother started watching OLTL when I was born and so you know 40 yrs is a legacy for a show. YES, I am devastated that Brian Frons continues to have a job (as does Perez Hilton) after all I hope the endless backlash will continue to bite all in their rears. No sympathy for the haters either.

  39. 39

…oh look, ….all five of they're fans showed up …

  40. 40

From what I just read. It is totally obvious that the person that wrote this has never has a TV show they loved dearly, other wise they would not have written something this cold and heartless. It is a slap in the face to all of us soap fans. ABC/Disney must not cancele our soaps.

  41. 41

Let's try and suck it up and move on, shall we?"

What a heartless thing to say to people who are losing a major part of their lives. The actors and actresses involved in these soaps have become family to so many of us and this is like a death in the family and Frons is the murderer. We are hurt, sad, and determined to let everyone know that we have followed these soaps for the better part of 40 years, give or take a few or a decade or two. Our "family" is being tossed to the streets along with the production crews because of the lies and manipulation of an ignorant man and ratings that we have no control over. There are more soap watchers than they estimated and we will hit them hard in their pockets as we make daily attempts to divert their advertisers from sponsoring ABC and Disney. We do not all have ratings boxes in our homes. We either tape these shows, watch Soapnet or Hulu to view our programs at times that are convenient to us.

No, we will not suck it up, Mr. Hilton, we have only begun to fight!

  42. 42

Those people who are protesting are living in the present. A present that includes soap operas called reality shows like Jersey Shores, Housewives of what every city (& if you don't think the antics on these show are not scripted, you are in denial). Informericals that pass themselves off as cooking, style & weight loss shows with enough product placement, product endorsement, or self promotion that you are literally bombarded with ads from start to finish. Believe it or not, there are actually people out there who enjoy scripted entertainment that draws you in (will Luke and Laura ever find happiness), entertains (Erica's marriages & catfights), sometimes teaches you a lesson (domestic violence, rape, cancer) and even acceptance (gay rights, HIV positive & AIDS). You tell these people to get a life. Well they do have lives. They are lawyers, doctors, factory workers, assistants, mothers, fathers, dock workers, etc. And if they want to take time to make their voices heard in unison, then more power to them! This is America and as Americans we fought and died to be allowed to have our voices heard. And it is not just Americans who are speaking up. These same soaps are seen worldwide and other nations are too standing up to get in line to be heard. So when you tell people to get a life, move on or suck it up, please remember that these are the people who are related to you, work with you, provide services to you, and maybe even employ you.
