Buh Bye! Lars Von Trier Kicked Out Of Cannes For Nazi Comments

| Filed under: Icky Icky PooFilm FlickersOops!Kirsten DunstPerezTVEvents

As we said yesterday…he should have kept his mouth shut!

Check out the video (above) of Melancholia director Lars Von Trier calling himself a Nazi and saying that he sympathizes with Hitler…AND making Kirsten Dunst REALLY uncomfortable.

As a result of his comments, Lars has been expelled from the Cannes film festival.

Here's what the Cannes board of directors said about the incident on their website:

“[The Cannes board of directors] profoundly regrets that this forum has been used by Lars Von Trier to express comments that are unacceptable, intolerable, and contrary to the ideals of humanity and generosity that preside over the very existence of the festival.”

“The board of directors firmly condemns these comments and declares Lars Von Trier persona non grata at the Festival de Cannes, with effect immediately."

Better get going with those apologies, Lars. You've got till January to convince Sundance. Ha!

What do U think of Lars Von Trier's Nazi comments? Did he deserve to get expelled from Cannes?

Why should Prince Harry be the only one allowed to laugh at Hitler and Nazis?

  2. 2

Kirsten looked like she wanted to jump up and run for the hills, not that I blame her…

Here come the racists on your site, Perez. Just wait. They'll defend this guy saying he said nothing wrong. Racists on a gay man's site, lol.

  4. 4

I think he was just on an artistic rant. Not good. But he is a film maker not a politician.

Kirstin's face is ridiculously funny! On a serious note, the world needs to get a grip and stop hyperventilating over every dick head who utters any word which is not PC. The guy couldnt even speak the language he was trying to express himslef with. If you make ignorant people to afraid to speak then how can you educate them? They will take their bad opinions and bury them where they will fester and be passed down generations and nobody will learn. Let them all speak… how else will we know.

People are so misinformed about history and our culture as humans, that we tend to forget that even the most "evil" of people may have at one point been human. Lars Von Trier's comments came from a German's mouth! His father was indeed not a Jew, but a Roman Catholic German (gave him much relieve about this), but the argument here is that most intellects who know their history, are undoubtedly aware that the problem Hitler had with the Jewish people was not something he birthed, but a problem for the whole of Europe since the Dark Ages. Lars Von Trier is firstly an artist, after that, he can say or shit on whatever he wants. His work speaks for itself, and I think what disgusted people more is that he "Yes", he spoke of this publicly. The best at their craft are always the one's who reject the norm and are radical! People, learn your history! Mad geniuses are everywhere!

wow…kirsten seems soooo uncomfortable!! i agree with cannes decision, that was a very inappropriate speech he gave. cannes is not the place to say you are a nazi sympathizer….but really its terrible that anyone would be a nazi sympathizer!

  8. 8

Oh my gosh… what an idiot! Don't say those things in public… -_-”
Kirsten's face, she's like 'please stop talking now'

  9. 9

i do not think he was being serious. also, i think trying to talk in a second language may have muttled the "humor" he was trying to go for. u know some ppl are just addicted to attention. he may be one of them.

  10. 10

OH MY GOD Poor Kirsten!! She looks soooo uncomfortable. Poor Lass.

    Re: sefhaynes
    He's from Denmark, not Germany.

  12. 12

I truly feel sorry for Kristen she obviously is wishing she could any place but besides this racist man. I guarantee she will never work with him again. I hope he ruined his career for being such a low life…period!

Maybe obama will invite him to the White House and sit him right next to that poet 'common'

  14. 14

Kristen face is priceless… like WTF are you doing? There are few taboo topics and I expect this is a universal one, don't make jokes about erratication of an entire race.

  15. 15

He deserved to kicked out of Cannes. What an idiot! If you are going to say you understand Hitler and can sympathize with him, then you deserve whatever you get. What Hitler did was decided he was God and he was going to get rid a race of people he considered inferior while conquering as much of the world as possible. If he had succeeded in word domination he would have done the same in the rest of Europe and this country but he wouldn't have stopped with the Jews. There was nothing redeeming about Hitler in any way shape or form. The man was an ignorant low life with power, the worst possible combination.

  16. 16

Come on.. he was joking.. That's just how he is. Yes he should have kept his mouth shut.. But that really how he is.. He just says stuff to get a reaction..

  17. 17

I will not listen to the comments/watch the video. I will say that any comments regarding the Nazis are profoundly offensive to the core of humanity and that those comments and those who make them should not be welcomed in civilized society. People need to wake us, somethings should NEVER be forgotten and so NEVER be acceptable.

    Re: buck

You need a good old-fashioned face fucking. Perhap a big 10 inch uncut cock crammed down your gullet.

  19. 19

No - he should not have been kicked out. He should have been given the opportunity to apologize but NOT thrown out.

  20. 20

    OMG!!! Poor Kristen!!!!

  21. 21

It's amazing that von Trier can make film after film portraying his hatred for women, where one heroine is gang raped while prostituting herself for her husband, another one cuts off her own clitoris.. And still after all this, von Trier was welcomed with open arms by the Cannes film festival. But as soon as he utters a few derogative words about jews, he's out the next day. The Holocaust happened a long time ago. But women today are still being raped, murdered and mutilated every second of every day all over the world. Just because they're women. I think this says alot about the film industry.. and the world we live in.

  22. 22

    His movies are crap anyway.

  23. 23

Oh my god poor Kirsten. She had no clue on what to do. I have never seen someone so uncomfortable.

Re: Rubber Rat – liberals sure know how to have a good time

  25. 25

    You shouldn't kick your guests!

  26. 26

what a disgusting piece of shit this "man" is - he "sympathizes" with HITLER???!! not ok. beyond disgusting, and completely unforgivable - there's NOTHING "artistic" about this, it's rude and offensive to the highest degree. Good for Cannes kicking him out. I hope he's no longer welcome at ALL film festivals around the world.

  27. 27

I see there are some fox viewers on here trying to comment, that in itself should invalidate their comments. Anyway the decision to dispel him from the cannes festival is completely appropriate. It is not the forum as to which these things should be addressed. Also even for those claiming this to be a joke…it's not funny. I am jewish and am disgusted by his comments. Oh and to clarify Hitler did not only try to eliminate jews everyone should probably get educated including him as to how many people this actual offends.

  28. 28

It's probably an overreaction. The guy is known for not being PC and he wasn't serious. The thing is, if you just read the quotes in black and white and don't know about Von Triers' bizarre sense of humor it looks really…..bad.

  29. 29

Listen to what the guy says - he is not a nazi or a racist. He was nervous and babbled pointlessly on about things no one but himself really understood and he managed to paint himself into a corner. Artistic rant is a pretty good way to describe it. HItler was a of course a bad man and Trier says so himself but if you have ever watched a film by Lars von Trier you would know that he is fascinated with human evil, guilt and where it comes from. Plus the fact that von Trier is a huge provocateur. A person like Hitler or Albert Speer are probably two very interesting men to him just because of this fascination. Hitler sitting in the bunker the last days of the war realizing that he will lose and thinking of how history will judge him can't be anything but fascinating for a screen writer like von Trier. That is how I interpreted what he said.

  30. 30

Re: Merrick – I hate the misogyny in his films, but this was the icing on the bigotry cake. The Holocaust happened not that long ago in the scale of human history, and as a European woman who wouldn't be around today if Hitler had had his way, I find this a disgusting excuse for a 'joke', and I find his sexism tiresome and revolting.
Can't we just hate him for being a generally gross person?

  31. 31

OMG, Relax. Lars von Trier has a dark sense of humor. He is in a situation where there is a lot of focus on him and he is not a big fan of that, there for he rambles. And he is being ironic if you didnt notice in the way he spoke, and then he said ”I'm a nazi!” he almost hammered his hand in the table like he was saying ” God dammit i'm a nazi!”. I dont think he has anything to apologize for, he has done nothing wrong. He was just explainen how he views life, and thats probably in a grand way, like Hitler did. So shut the fuck up and relax!

  32. 32

The Cannes official festival statement talks about it being a place for freedom of expression and creation, and then kicks Von Trier out for expressing himself. They are hypocrits. He was just talking trash in front of strangers that either didn't get him or decided to do what they thought they should do because someone is bound to be outraged by what he said. He's not a Nazi, he's not anti-American, he's not a misogynist and he's not antisemetic. He's one of the international film community's great controversial film directors. In this world of limited attention spans, lack of research, sound bites, things taken out of context and knee-jerk reactions, this guy is being misunderstood and mistreated.
