Sad. Sad…and mysterious.
For twenty-two years, Huguette Clark, heiress to a copper mining fortune, has been held up in several New York hospitals, the last of which was Beth Israel Hospital, where she sadly passed away on Tuesday. At 104 years young, Huguette's last years of life are a mystery to many as she insisted on living alone, cut off from the rest of the world, including her family.
What we do know about Huguette Clark is that she's worth over $500 million, thanks to her father, William Andrews Clark, who "made it big" during 1888. When she decided to become a recluse over 20 years ago, she insisted that her family know nothing about her, insisting her name be changed in hospital records and within her inner circle of handlers, and opted to spend the majority of time playing with dolls and dollhouses.
With no children, family or friends, the biggest mystery of them all is what will become to her $500 million fortune. So far, there has been no mention of a benefactor or will, so its unclear what will happen to such a huge sum of money.
Cue the gold-diggers in 3…2…1
At any rate, we hope Huguette is at peace now and to the few who did know her, we send our condolences.
