Are 3D Pirates Less Profitable Than 2D Ones???

| Filed under: Film FlickersTech TalkBusiness Blitz

pirates of the caribbean hurt by 3d

According to analysts, the answer is aye yes!

While Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides may have had the biggest international opening of all time, BTIG analyst Richard Greenfield seems to think that the film would have fared even better in the U.S. if it had been released on more 2D screens.

Here's what Greenfield had to say about it:

"U.S. consumers are increasingly rejecting 3D movies."

Richard says that audiences are concerned with higher ticket prices for 3D movies, and he also believes that young children don't want to wear 3D glasses.

We certainly can't argue the higher prices. It costs a small fortune for large families to go see a 3D movie…especially if they plan on snacking!

…Then again, we suppose they could always smuggle in Skittles in their pockets or purses. Ha!

Do U think Richard Greenfield is right? Did the 3D factor affect your decision to go see Pirates or not?

I don't watch 3D movies because they're expensive and I can't get a snack. I just hate them. they make me dizzy.

3D isn't even that cool! It's nothing new! They are just trying to revise it to make extra cash, but what they don't realize is that the price of admission has already become insane, not to mention the food and drink prices could make a person pass out! I went to a movie I was really excited about & wanted to eat some good old fashion concession stand food, I got three things, one of which was just water & it cost me 15 bucks!!! Seriously? People are not going to movies as it is because of how much it costs!! It takes a lot of enjoyment out of the whole process. Now you practically want to force me to wear some stupid glasses the whole way trough the movie just so I can see a yoyo or some other stupid thing pop out at me. please. Let's focus less on 3D, &^ more on putting something original out instead of all these sequals, & RE "insert stupid word like imaginings".

I refuse to watch 3d movies. They hurt my eyes and ruin the movie experience. I always look for the 2d screen or I don't go. I can't wait till this stupid fad dies out.

I took my 3D glasses off for most of the movie. They were heavy and the movie looked dark. With them off, the lighting was amazing and I was comfortable. I would watch it again in the big screen but I'm not really to pay 8 euros for a 3D movie when it's not worth the costs.

    Hate 3D movies.

    It's a novelty idea that doesn't work

I watched it in 2D but could tell it was filmed in 3D. I wish it had just been a 2D film. 3D for me works best in animation.

I agree they are way too expensive… cinema used to be a cheap night out, and I recently paid nearly fifty quid for 4 people to see a film. That's a week's supermarket shopping! Plus, I wear glasses, so I have to put the 3D specs over my own, which is really uncomfortable and hurts my nose. Whenever I take my niece to the pictures, she takes them off because they are so big for her and keep falling off her little nose anyway. They should at least make a smaller size for kids!

As somebody who already wears glasses, having to wear another pair OVER them makes me feel stupid and its just plain uncomfortable.
