American Drivers DON'T Know Rules Of The Road!

american drivers dont know the rules of the road

SOME American drivers may not know the rules of the road, but we learned everything we need to know from Jeff Bridges in the movie Starman:

"Red light stop, green light go, yellow light go very fast."

Wait a sec, that's not right…

We're joking of course, but some people may actually believe that, because based on the results of the 2011 GMAC Insurance National Driver's Test, almost ONE IN FIVE licensed drivers today wouldn't pass a written driver's test! Scary!

To give you a better idea, that means that 36.9 million drivers in the U.S. don't have a sufficient knowledge of the rules of the road.

And people aren't just missing extremely complicated questions either. According to the GMAC test results, 85% of people didn't know what to do when approaching a steady yellow traffic light! And no, the answer isn't "go very fast!"

Fortunately, we're getting at least a little bit more knowledgeable, because the average score on the test went up from 76.2% in 2010 to 77.9% for 2011 so far.

This may not be an issue for you now, but keep in mind that if you ever move to another state, you're probs gonna have to take that written test to get a license, and if you don't know what to do when an emergency vehicle is approaching or who gets the right of way at a 4-way intersection, you're going to be in trouble.

Have U taken the GMAC test? If so, how did U score?

That's how New Mexico drivers think. I have never in my life (even driving in California for years) Have seen worse drivers than in New Mexico. Someone runs a light at nearly every intersection. It's awful.

Re: berrybaby – Then don't go to Florida, it's total kamikaze driving there!

I think this is just further proving the decline of society.

US drivers are OK for the most part (depending on what state you are in). After visiting Toronto, Canada many times, I have concluded that they are the worst drivers in North America. People use the left lane as their normal driving lane instead of the right, ignore all speed limits, PASS ON THE RIGHT and PASS ON MERGE LANES and even one time a driver drove around a stopped school bus with it's flashing lights on!!!!! Perhaps its their many people from 3rd world contries are responsible for this but I don't see this in other parts of Canada. Shame.

I took the test and got a perfect 100%. Honestly, I could have passed the test without taking drivers ed, because it was simple. Observation while riding in the car told me most of the rules of the road. People don't seem to understand the road going straight has the right away and that they aren't supposed to turn in front of others at a two-way stop.
