Angelina Doesn't Dare Compare Herself To The "Lovely" Elizabeth Taylor

It goes without saying that Angelina Jolie is a beautiful, stunning woman, inside and out. She's a terrific mom, a generous philanthropist and a brilliant actress. The latter made it easy for David Fincher to insist she take the lead role in his remake of Cleopatra, a role first taken on by the incomparable Elizabeth Taylor. However, though she's certainly a skillful actress, Angie also recognizes the shoes she is about to fill and she is not so bold as to suggest that she could portray the famed pharaoh better than the woman who came before her.

In a new interview, Angelina insists that she could never overshadow Liz's performance, saying:

“My performance will never be as lovely as Elizabeth’s.”

True, but we have faith it will be lovely in it's own right. There'll never be another like Miz Liz, but we think she'd be pleased to see such a reverence to the role coming from someone as talent as yourself, Angie!

So…when is this baby going to start production?!

First of all, Perez, Elizabeth didn't like to be called Liz and you should know that because you are in the biz. Very disrespectful on your part. 2nd there is not one person on this earth that could replace and take over for the great Elizabeth Taylor. There isn't one actress out there that could play any of her roles with the grace and abilities that she had. I am glad to hear that Angelina said what she did, if in fact she really said that and if in fact she really believes that.

I never liked Taylor's Cleopatra because her fame overshadowed the story. The story of Cleo is a very important, true, historical piece. And because it is such a fantastic story, it can easily stand on its own. Once you get a really big name involved, especially a highly glamorous one, it just ruins it. It becomes a showboat of a movie instead of the really moving story it should be. But that's just my opinion.

Do yourselves a favor a get an average looking but good Greek actress to play Cleo instead of the Angelina Jolie and her lips show. That may even be worse than a blond Brad Pitt playing Hercules. Make it a believable movie, for crying out loud.

The difference between Elizabeth Taylor and Angelina Jolie is that one was a great actress along with being a great natural beauty. Angelina Jolie lucked into her Oscar by playing a character similar to herself and has had plastic surgery to enhance her face.

Angelina Jolie is starting to look like a hag. She isn't aging well.

The fact that AJ was humble enough to acknowledge Elizabeth Taylor was no comparison speaks volumes. The fact is AJ is a credible actor and she is beautiful. To me it just amazing how jealosy reins in the negativity.

Re: Genghis Khan – I like what you're saying. I think Hollywood is going down the shitter because instead of making good movies, they're trying to bolster personal careers, so they make a movie out of anything just to have a big name attached to it. there are some great movies out there with "small" actors that don't get recognized at the big award shows simply because there's no Clooney or Roberts or Pitt attached to it. give me a break, half these big stars are just cranking out movies and not putting any effort into the story. and I don't even know if I should believe jolie actually said this; it sounds too human and humble to be her. when has she ever spoken like this? if she doesn't think she can be good enough for the role, then why the hell is she doing it? answer: for the glory that comes with taking up a famous role by a famous actress.

Re: futuremrslabeouf – Thanks for agreeing. These movie makers are way off mark with films like this. Most younger people (20-35) aren't really all that interested in these historical stories, unless there is a big name involved. And even then, it is only going to carry the film makers so far once the younger crowd sees how unbelievable and cheesy it is. However, there is a much larger segment, a much, much larger segment, of older people who really appreciate the story. If it is a very well made movie with believable actors, it will do very well.

I sure wish Hollywood would get off the "remake" kick. "Cleopatra" has been done to death. Claudette Colbert did it before Elizabeth (and even showed her tits), but we remember Elizabeth's role because of the delayed costly production and her adulterous behavior with Richard Burton. I have suggested previously that an original story of Nefertiti and Akhenaten would do more to give Angelina her own place in film history. Nefertiti still is considered the most beautiful woman, based on the famous bust, housed in Berlin Museum. Akhenaten is credited with being the first to embrace the "one God" (monotheism) concept, although history indicates his mother, Great Queen Tiye led him to it. His beliefs tore Egypt apart. Adrien Brody could play that part convincingly, while Angelina could breath life into the mysterious, beautiful, enigmatic ("Beautiful One") known as Nefertiti. Aren't there cigars named "Antonio y Cleopatra" even? I wish my idea would be noticed, but there are no real writers in Hollywood anymore, just a bunch of CGI technicians.

Another thing they had in common? Both were homewreckers who had affairs with married men.

While both Angelina and Elizabeth both set out to sleep with married men,. only Elizabeth had the balls to acknowledge it and apologize for it later. Angelina Jolie is not a beautiful person-physically attractive yes, but I think her soul is black, fake, full of self-important garbage and her humanitarian efforts are either to keep up with Brad or make herself look good. I am not a huge fan of Jennifer Aniston either, so if you think that's why I don't like AJ, you would be wrong….I, like many others, see through her garbage and self serving bulls–t.

Re: Genghis Khan – I tend to agree, but Jolie can go ahead and prove it wrong. Angie is beautiful, and I think that got her this role. She has to raise her acting bar to ace this one.

Hello???? Cleopatra was a woman of color….Having big lips doesn't qualify you as being "ethnic"..

  14. 14

Of course it won't be, she can't act to save her life! She has to be one of the absolute WORST actresses there is. She's bland & boring. In every movie, it's like she's playing the exact same role. It's a good thing she has her looks!

  15. 15

Wow my favorite contemporary actress and my favorite historical female put together in a movie. That's so much awesomeness I can hardly contain myself!!! BTW Cleopatra was a Queen and a Pharoah.

  16. 16

    * I mean and NOT a pharoah

  17. 17

The only other thing that would make this absolutely perfect is BRAD PITT as Mark Antony oh please please please make it so!!!

Elizabeth Taylor was one of the most amazingly beautiful women in the world and a very talented actrees (2 oscars), but Angelina Jolie herself is a beautiful woman also. The producer picks AJ not for nothing, they must see something amazing about her. Just wait and see how she acts in "Cleopatra". Actually, Cleopatra was not really beautiful based on the statues/pictures found. Nefertiti was really a beautiful queen.
