Did Cascada Plagiarize Katy Perry's California Gurls??

| Filed under: Music MinuteWacky, Tacky & TrueKaty Perry

Seems pretty clear to us that Cascada's new video for San Francisco shows us that the single has had some outside inspiration…

Check it out and see for yourself, the video is right there!

See? Also, somewhat HIGHlariously, the single is from Cascada's new album called Original Me. Looks as though the "original" part is tongue-in-cheek! LOLz!

We wonder if Katy knows about this??

What do U think, is Cascada blatantly ripping off KP??

i dont think so… talking about plagirism why dont u talk about ur shitty cheater fraud wife?????? GAGA IS A RIPP OFF… shame on u

  4. 4

    that BITCH ! lol jk

  5. 5

It does sound quite similar but it does seem downright idiotic that they'd purposely rip off such a well-known song so maybe it's just a coincidence…

  6. 6

They do sound similar … maybe she needed some inspiration?

  7. 7

oh yeah COMPLETE rip-off. Really lame… Cascada has no creativity.

  8. 8

im sorta really confused…..how exactly is she ripping katy off? love katy perry so not even being a hater but her video was in a candy world….and this has absolutely nothing to do with a candy world lol wtf perez? whos writing these posts

  9. 9

Its not her fault its who ever did her beats

  10. 10

First of all Mr. I Know Everything about music THIS IS "THE VIDEO VERSION" the single version is a bit different, just a bit.. p.s. everything on the radio sounds the same!!!

  11. 11

Katy is too busy stealing from t.A.T.u. to notice …

  12. 12

Seriously? Like Katy did anything original. Cascada was pumping out dance beats long before Katy ever did. And quite honestly, I like this song a lot better than California Girls. Katy's lylrics suck. "so hot we'll melt your popsicle?" Really?

    13

That's sad, they couldn't even be bothered to slightly alter the tune. It's *exactly* the same in the beginning.

  14. 14

Can we talk about how many songs have sounded like Calvin Harris's I'm not alone lately. I dont think this sounds the same.

  15. 15

omg! I love this, so dancy!

  16. 16

I Love Katy Perry, but I thought California Girls sucked. This sounds too similar, & sadly isn't any better either.

  17. 17

This is no different than Jlo copying from Lambada. Some "artists" nowsadays lack the creativity to create music of their own.

  18. 18

They have the same producer so it doesn't matter and california girls is the same beat as tik tok just slowed down if you didn't know thats what happens when everyone goes to Dr. Luke

  19. 19

oh so wait you mean the songs sound alike?? you weren't specific about that in the post loser lol

  20. 20

The beginning sounds exactly like California Gurls but then after that it doesn't really sound the same so it's not the most obvious case of plagiarism in music

  21. 21

Oh please, she's ripping KP as much as Gaga rips off Maddona. You should make a note of that.

  22. SF90 says – reply to this

    22

Like someone already said, they have the same producer.
I've only heard covers by Cascada so I'm guessing the album is called that ’cause it's gonna be original songs on it, maybe.

  23. 23

It sounds like the type of song used for Playmate videos where they make a song sound very similar to a current pop hit, but not close enough to get sued.

  24. 24

Isn't California Gurls a ripoff of Tik Tok!!!!! Totally more of the same song. Not so here!!!

  25. 25

Before you call out anyone you on plagiarizing you need to call ot lady gag!!! Just saying

  26. 26

Re: dlstxmale – haha.. now that's the truth! :)

  27. rory! says – reply to this

    27

    Tres similar.

  28. 28

Katy Perry cant really say shit about it because she stole it from Kesha's Tik Tok .. sooo it would be extremely hypocritical of her.

  29. 29

Re: justtospeaktruth – He was talking about the song itself, not the video, you intellectual giant.
The beat is the same….but aren't a lot of songs "the same" now-a-days?

  30. 30

yep she ripped it off just like katy did from ke$ha's tik tok. it's all annoying.

  31. 31

FYI MARIO, taking a sample beat that's no more than 10 seconds is not ripping off an entire song. The whole effin music industry is recycled! Just a bunch of overused beats, hooks, lyrics, and image. NO ONE IS ORIGINAL, not even your GAGA.
    God, you're so ignorant.

  32. 32

This is not a rip off. The first part of the song sounds like it because of the beat. But other than that the video and lyrics are nothing like it.

  33. 33

    It's better.

  34. 34

    California gurls 2.0 lolz

  35. 35

I think she was trying to play off the california girls song. Like a homage–not blatantly stealing. That being said, the song sucks. Artists sample all the time. Case in point: every jason derulo song.

  36. 36

It's not uncommong for a musician to sell their beat to multiple people not knowing who is actually going to use it on their album. See Beyonce/Clark or the two guys who did Whoomp there it is. It's not plageurism. Clearly she knew she kinda got screwed and went with it.

  37. 37

Hey! Besides that my little pony advertisment you're spamming (which is awesome) is california girls too only with my little ponies :P Do you think Katy knows? :O Do you think the remakes make the original a few more bucks that are no longer coming in?

  38. 38

this doesnt sound anything like california gurls.

  39. 39

California Gurls sounds extremely similar to TiK ToK by Ke$ha, so I don't think anyone truly cares.

Industry recycles if something works, like a knockoff of a popular but expensive running shoe or handbag. Artists should have something to say to themselves and others about associating themselves with cloned songs. Instead of breaking out properly with something new they may have just milli vanilli'd themselves.

  41. @v@ says – reply to this

    41

What if this Cascada's tune was plagerized?

  42. FS says – reply to this

    42

Now Perez, why are you able to see this as a rip off and not recognize it in your stupid Caca Gaga? Fuck you hypocritical cherry picker. you shouldn't be allowed to write columns considering you pick your favs. At this point, you wouldn't have a problem if Gaga let a dog fuck her in the ass on stage to bring awareness to animal cruelty. YOu would think it's deep and artistic. Fuck you Mario.

  43. 43

it has the same beat as California girls but it doesnt sound like she is copying! soo no!

  44. 44

u mean gaga is the stealer.

  45. 45

    sounds more like TiK ToK

  46. 46

Evacuate the Dancefloor also sounds suspiciously similar to Just Dance…just saying…
