Matt Damon's Father Battling Cancer

So sad.

Yesterday, Matt Damon flew back to his home in Massachusetts to attend the One Hundred Year Celebration for Mass General Hospital, the same facility, he revealed, that has been treating his father's cancer.

At the event, Matt took a moment to personally thank all the doctors and nurses who have taken care of his dad, who is currently in remission from the rare blood disease multiple myeloma. He said to them:

"My family is so grateful for the care you've given us. It's deeply humbling to see how many people here are committing their lives to helping others. We've lost some close personal friends to cancer in recent years, but I never thought it would happen to my dad, the marathon runner. It sucked.”

Poor guy! We feel bad for the whole family, really.

But stay positive, Matt. Your dad beat this thing back before. No reason why he can't again. We have faith he'll be back to his old self again really soon. Sounds like he has all he needs to do it: good friends, good doctors and an amazing son to look out for him!

Feel better, Kent!

It happens to everyone eventually, one thing or another. If it can be beaten, they'll do their best to beat it. You can't do anything more than that.

actuarial tables had life stop, STOP at forty until the a bomb was quote unquote established. with insurance jukes in japan, believing in the sun became mandatory, they adjusted the tables. it's that old saying with insurance, "if you hang around too long…medical industry reigns in the business asociate"

Dad looks like Phil Hartman here. Love Matt Damon.

This lady at my work had this, and she did pass away from it. From what I learned from her this is a type of cancer that you can't beat. It will go into remission, however at some point it will come back. It's a on going battle. With that said I wish Matt Damon's father the best of luck, and pray that it will stay in remission for a long time.

God bless Matt & Mr. Damon. My mom has been battling this difficult and rare cancer for the past 3 yrs… but Lizzie is wrong, it is possible to lead a long, healthy and happy life post diagnosis. I hope this is the case for Matt's dad. You are in the best location with the mmrf right there!

MGH is celebrating its 200 year… when you miss simple facts like that- what else are you getting wrong?

Not enough research is done on alternative treatments for cancer. Check out the Gerson diet and the Gary Null DVD Preventing and Treating Cancer Naturally. I know someone who was diagnosed with end stage Lymphoma, given 6 months to put their affairs in order and get ready to die, had surgery to remove large growths, no chemo/radiation as there was no point since she was going to die, did Gerson Therapy in Mexico and is alive and healthy FOURTEEN years later. Doctors that treated her cancer aren't interested in how or why she's still alive (and can't be for fear of losing their licenses for getting involve with "unapproved" treatments) so all they say is "Keep doing what you're doing". She has CAT scans every year to confirm cancer hasn't come back. Sounds like an option to me! I'm so sorry for Matt's dad, Matt and all their friends and loved ones. Tough time for all. People that try alternative methods this late in the game are challenged because they have little or no immune system left because of all the chemo and radiation to fight off the cancer on their own (which they possibly could otherwise). Very sad. Hope for the best…you never know! Maybe he'll pull thru.
