Obama Administration Launches LGBT Website, Leaves Marriage Equality Out Again!

| Filed under: Gay Gay GayPolitikBarack ObamaLGBT

barack obama launches lgbt website

This is a positive step in many ways, but Obama STILL refuses to give the marriage equality issue the attention it needs!

Earlier this week, President Barack Obama issued a proclamation for LGBT Pride Month, which tackled a bunch of important issues in the LGBT community, BUT he didn't mention marriage equality OR the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA).

Now, Obama's administration has launched a website dedicated to the LGBT issues mentioned in his proclamation, but marriage equality is STILL not being addressed!

With regards to the marriage equality issue, Obama has said that "he is 'evolving' on and 'wrestling' with the issue."

Here's what White House press secretary Jay Carney has said about why Obama hasn't announced public support for marriage equality:

"The president has said in the past what his position is. It hasn’t changed. And if it changes, I’m sure he’ll let you all know."

We support the launch of the Obama administration's website, but if they're going to put this much effort into supporting the LGBT community, why not go all the way and back marriage equality as well? Think about it, Obama!

One step at a time and eventually it will addressed.

Hey perez, i read you religiously and love your blog. But i do have to disagree with you on this. I agree that marriage equality is important and living in Canada it is legal. But Obama is the first president to be so forward with his efforts to change the current situation with the LGBT community. It takes time to bring equality especially with a country that still is very much against the idea. Slow and steady change will eventually mean big change. It will take time and patience.

Regardless of political or religious views, letting everyone get married regardless of who they are (or what parts they have) is good for the economy. From florists, to limos, to designers, restaurants, booze, honeymoons… divorce lawyers. Republicans and Democrats should run on a gay marriage agenda for the pure financial value and boost to business it would create.

    The website does say this:

"President Obama has called for the Congressional repeal of the discriminatory “Defense of Marriage Act” and has announced that in his view, Section 3 of DOMA is unconstitutional."

He isn't going to touch on gay marriage with the campaign so near. The only reason he put up the website is to throw some bones to you people and try to keep you somewhat happy with him. He won't overtly support gay marriage at this time. He may not even do it after the election (if he is re-elected) because I honestly don't believe he supports it anyway. It's politics. They aren't going to be straight forward with you. Just string you along and throw you little scraps of hope so you will vote for them. Nothing new.

What a fucking joke you are Perez. You don't want marriage equality for all - you just want it for you and your homo friends. Call it what it is - GAY equality - because your definition of marriage most certainly doesn't include marriage for other non-traditional relationships (such as polygamy). Again, always the hypocrite

    Re: mdean084

I'm gay and thank you for this post!

  12. 12

Perez, you already have the sames rights as everyone else who lives here. What you and your homo friends want is to be treated as a special class of citizens all because of who you CHOOSE to sleep with. Well too fucking bad!

I do agree the transgender need to be in a special class, in a mental hospital.

If you do not like it, go start your own country.

    Not Cool Mr O!

Perez can NEVER be satisfied. Shit give an inch and Perez wants to take a mile. Our country has far more important things plauging us right now then just gay marriage. At least Obama (UNLIKE ANY OTHER PRES IN THE PAST) is addressing the issue as a hole- so why not be excited for the small fete and look forward to more changes in the future..but no this fat gay queen can never be satisfied.. and Idk why Mario is so pressed to get gay marriage passed right away- not like he's anywhere close to walking down the alter…

  15. 15

The thing is, he can't come out in support for LGBT rights because it's political suicide. Whatever he may believe in, this guy still wants to be president. And that'll ruin him.

  16. 16

Re: MsJules – and by hole i meant whole… =/

  17. 17

He starts pouring the koolaid in the nick of time….as he heads out on the trail. Guess he knows that he needs to romance the gay dem's, as they are partly responsible for his sorry ass getting the pres. gig. Now, we see if they decide to vote for his two-faced, weak ass….AGAIN?!?!

  18. 18

I think it is save to say that President Obama promises anything to get approval and is a liar.Remember how he promised to reduce the debt, cut government spending and support labor unions!??Stop the wars, the killing innocent Africans . Stand behind me Satan!

  19. 19

It's NEVER going to happen. Even a far left liberal like Obama is opposed to gay marriage.

  20. 20

Ho hum. Just words. He's back in election mode and wants the gay vote. I just wish he'd create jobs and stop dragging the economy further down.

  21. 21

LOL, Liberals playing you like a joke Perez. They just want your vote in 2012 and they'll be back to shunning you again. No marriage for you buddy

  22. 22

One thing at a time, Mario. Douche.

  23. 23

obama is such a hypocrite…total loser with no backbone for his beliefs…a total political hack who is only impressed with himself.

Re: why bother – VERY WELL SAID

  25. 25

Obama is only thinking about getting re-elected at this point. By the way, gay marriages will never happen in churches. The Bible says its wrong. So go get married in a civil service. Obama won't support gay marriage because there will not be any future generations to vote for him. Not a ton of straight people get married now days. Besides I'm sure they have all committed the sin of having sex before marriage, so why get married afterwards?

  26. 26

Re: Geat real – Well gay people could still have those ceremonies, just none of it would be legal in the end

  27. 27

    America stop BO in 2012.

Re: Desideratum – No, they (LGBT) don't have the same rights as everybody else, and this is not going away until they grant them. Just ask other countries who did where everything in that vein is now quiet and peaceful. You sound like an eighteenth century man telling his woman to calm down and not to worry about not having the vote because she already has everything, and is just wanting 'special' status.
