Identical Twin Friars Pass Away On The Same Day

Sad!

Last Wednesday, Julian and Adrian Riester, who were born within seconds of each other 92 years ago, died within hours of each other, both of heart failure.

As identical twins, Julian and Adrian shared a lot of attributes, but they also both dedicated their lives to the Roman Catholic Order, both having ben friars for the last 65 years. Those who knew them best remember their years together working at St. Bonaventure University, doing carpentry work, gardening and driving visitors to and from the airport and around town. They died at St. Anthony Hospital in St. Petersburg, Fla., Brother Julian in the morning and Brother Adrian in the evening.

While its always sad to see someone go, perhaps this was the best thing for them both. They came into this world together, they left it the same way. There's something kind of nice about that.

Our condolences go out to their family and friends who are no doubt grieving the loss of their loved ones.

    Wow- that is crazy!

Wow! Are our lives predestined then? I had to notice that their names are Julian and Adrian… both names I wanted for my son but my husband insisted he be a junior. :( Glad I got to read this!

It is interesting how linked people are… twins, long time married couples, the connections of dying hrs or days apart are surreal, and happens more often than we realize.

They worked at the college right near me. From friend's accounts, genuinely nice people. So crazy how they died in such close time proximity to each other. We were wondering if they had died in the order they were born, and how close to the actual birth time each died!

Twins have more of a connection that we know……….

They have an older sister who says she is happy they went at the same time so that neither would have to live without the other.

Re: lola1965 – aside fromt he fact that it's sad for the people who lost them, I agree with you, it's beautiful! things like this make us really think about the beauty of life. Re: Bunnyness – I'm also glad they went together, who knows how much sadder it would've been for them to be alone. thanks for this post, Perez! it's nice to take a break from idle gossip and do some deep thinking :)

I've got an identical twin and sometimes I worry how I'd ever survive without her… I hope we both live to a ripe old age and go together like these two :) It's a bittersweet story - the fact their family lost them both so close together - but I'm sure it's how they wanted it. RIP!

I don' think it's sad. we all going to die sooner or later. I think they lived a good life and were lucky they did not have to lose each other.
