Back in March, we met Martha Stewart's granddaughter Jude (above), and we thought she was totally precious!

Now, Martha's daughter Alexis Stewart has spoken up about becoming a mother. Here's what she had to say about the process:

“Getting Jude was lucky. I’m happy, but this has been rough.”

Certainly sounds like it WAS rough! According to Alexis, she saw several doctors and had to spend as much as $27,000/month on IVF procedures, and $6,000 more on medication! Wowsa!

Once she finally met Dr. John Zhang at Manhattan's New Hope Fertility Center though, she was able to bring her monthly costs waaaay down to around $5,000.

More from Alexis on her long road to becoming a mother:

“This is my other job that I don’t talk about, but if you’re lucky enough to be able to afford it and you have time, what’s the downside?”

Certainly can't blame her! All that hard work and money seems to have paid off quite well - just look at baby Jude's face! SO cute!

We continue to wish your new family all the best, Alexis! Send some more pics!

No better example of the need for Universal Healthcare. Only the privileged can afford $27,000 a month.

    What a beautiful baby!

Congrats to her! After having 2 miscarriages, its wonderful to see that someone finally had their bundle of Joy!

I thought I read another story that said she used a gestational surrogate in the end, that she was never able to conceive on her own. I don't think this story is accurate. Big shock.

Some women have to accept the fact they cannot have children. That urgency its just soooo….

  6. 6

too bad that money wasn't spent on supplying a child already in this world, with a home.
Re: Hairplugs for Hilton – did you even read the article and if so, do you know how to comprehend? She was spending money on IVF treatments, not trying to cure her own cancer…….she spent that money to fulfill her own selfish wants not because she had to. Healthcare needs reformed, not universalized………..

    Wrong!
It NEVER costs 27,000$ a month for IVF.
The whole procedure costs approx. 10,000$ total.
We"ve been through it so we know this is bullshit.

I can't tell you how angry it makes me to read her comments on her financial spending to be a mom. Because of her mom's hard work she has her future laid out for her. But as a mom of an adopted son I find it rude when I hear how much people spend on trying to have a baby. Adopted children and perfect, healthy beautiful kids. Her mother made it possible for her to have her current career and child. I hope your expensive child grows up to be worth all the money. If not what will you do ask for your money back.

What a waste of money. What is wrong with all the children out there that need loving families?? Adoption would have been a better option it seems. Maybe there is a reason she was unable to have a child on her own.

    $27k/month, seriously?

Re: Treasure – Doesn't it cost money to adopt as well? Here in Norway it can cost about 25 000 dollars just to adopt..

  12. 12

There are hundreds of thousands of orphaned babies that don't even get a hour a day of physical contact that need to be adopted and loved yet, she chooses to be selfish.

    Re: Austin TX
Thank you for adopting and choosing not to overpopulate this earth. I wish others had the sense you and I have. Too many babies in this world already, why add to the chaos?!! ESPECIALLY in this society that's moving backwards instead of forwards.

  14. 14

survival of the fittest, not the richest. if you can't have children, then maybe evolution is trying to tell you something…

  15. 15

With all that money, she could have adopted *several* children who already needed good homes. I understand wanting to have your own. I was diagnosed with infertility and am lucky to be pregnant with my second.

Also, what the hell doctor was she seeing where she spent $27k a MONTH on IVF?

Re: Hairplugs for Hilton – Universal health care should most definitely not cover IVF, just like private insurance should not cover IVF. If money is going to be spent, spend it on adoption.
