Oh Well! MTV Cancels Skins!

Can't say we didn't see this coming, but we know there are more than a few of you out there who will be somewhat disappointed.

MTV just announced that they are canceling their adaptation of the British show Skins after only one season. The show had a rocky start, plagued by low ratings, bashings from parental groups and advertisers quickly pulling their ads because of its racy content. Still, MTV stands by their decision to air the show and released this statement on its cancellation:

"Skins is a global television phenomenon that, unfortunately, didn’t connect with a US audience as much as we had hoped. We admire the work that the series’ creator Bryan Elsley did in adapting the show for MTV, and appreciate the core audience that embraced it."

Whomp, whomp!

If you are one of those kids in the show's "core audience" and you haven't already, fill the void by watching the U.K. series. It is masterfully written and we think by watching it you'll have a better appreciation for what the U.S. show had to live up to!

the acting in this version SUCKED as a HUGGE fan of the UK version i was majorly disappointed by this one. Glad they pulled the plug they were giving the UK version a bad name.

  2. 2

never seen it but don't get why people would want to watch children having sex.. ew?

  3. 3

    Show sucked anyway

  4. 4

    Skin U.S SUCKS!!
    Skins U.K IS AMAZING!
THANK GOD THEY CANCELED THIS BULLSHIT. THEY SHOULD HAVE NEVER MADE A U.S VERSION IN THE FIRST PLACE.

  5. 5

It sucked anyway I'm glad they cancelled it.

  6. 6

Never liked the US version in the first place. I LOVE the UK version and its a whole lot better. MTV shouldnt have even made the US version, there are just some UK shows you cant remake and that show is one of them.

  7. 7

omg. it wasn't that bad! I reallly love both versions. Dang. I wish season two would've happened :(

  8. 8

I just couldnt get past the horridly bad casting/acting of Tony. But I give them credit for diverting from the UK version and trying to find its own legs toward the end with Tony on the backburner.

Ugh! I'm so pissed they cancelled the show :( Their acting wasn't superb as most of them had no experience and for that I thought they did pretty good. The story lines were great! I wanted to see the Stanley love triangle unfold and I wanted to see what would have happened between Tea and Tony.. Aww bummer!

Good….bye. What's next?…men and sheep having at it on pay for view.

  11. 11

Speaking as an American…American kids can't pull off that kind of lifestyle. Why do American television producers insist on ripping off every British tv show?? Yes, I know the Brit producers were on board with the American version, but can't they think of something original??

  12. 12

Horrible show, although it WAS getting better towards the end.

  13. 13

the problem isn't that the show doesn't connect with a US audience, it's that the US version was horrible. if they aired the british version over here i'm sure a lot more people would watch

  14. 14

    Soooooo horrible….good riddance!

  15. 15

dude, like no one could relate to this ridiculous shit. most of us… idk have fucking parents who give a shit. this was like fantasy "what i wish my life was like" television. where they went to school… but nothing mattered, only sex and drugs. these kinds of shows are tiring and have horrible plots. that are more like DAMN COCAINE AND FUCKING i can't BELIEVE IT!!!! so fucking edgy man… but no one can really learn or take away anything from such a vacant show… so pointless and shitty. terrible acting too.

  16. 16

I liked the show alot. Ive never seen the UK version, but this version was pretty good. Im sorry to see it go. There was nothing on television like it. It was really cutting edge.

  17. 17

    My So-Called Life.

  18. 18

    That's what you get fuckers

  19. 19

Noooo!!! Was i the only person that liked this show!? Sad to see it go.

  20. 20

Now you teenage losers can just watch the British version, imitate their behaviour, and be fuck-ups for the rest of your lives.

  21. 21

nooo Tea was sooo hot! :(

  22. 22

the lack of acting skill is what killed the U.S. version.

  23. 23

I'm actually surprised about that. Although it didn't have a large following here in the U.S., it seems like the folks that did like it were REALLY into it. On top of that, I heard that our version was quite popular overseas, particularly in France. Now, I'll tell you what looks like a stupid show, and it's that new Teen Wolf. They keep advertising it in OK! magazine, and it makes me want to giggle all the time. I don't know, though. I'm not really into that sort of thing, so it's definitely just a personal opinion.

Re: Serena Loves Mario – You're such a bitch… You never have anything nice to say. Always throwing nasty comments at others. You're becoming a bit of a joke.

  25. 25

And now we can appreciate the original and this version can be forgotten about.

  26. 26

Re: Serena Loves Mario – Give teenagers some credit, they don't all see something on TV and want to imitate it. Misfits didn't make me want to kill people, the Inbetweeners didn't make me want to be a nerd and Skins didn't make me want to do drugs. Art imitates life anyway, not the other way round, if kids weren't doing this stuff already there would be no show depicting it.
