Black Eyed Peas' Central Park Show Cancelled Due To Weather, Fans PISSED!

black eyed peas cancel central park show

In the Black Eyed Peas song I Gotta Feeling, they sing they "party every day, p-p-p-party every day." Looks like those words DON'T apply to days with precipitation. Ha!

Last night, BEP cancelled on a crowd of THOUSANDS of fans who were waiting in Central Park for EIGHT HOURS in extreme heat, and then rain, to see the group perform!

The police department claimed that everything was being shut down due to lightning, to which the crowd of 20,000+ fans chanted "WE WON'T GO!"

The concert was set up to benefit the Robin Hood foundation, and here's what the organization had to say about it the situation in a statement:

"The heat wasn't going to stop them, the rain wasn't going to stop them, but the lightning-it stopped them. It came down to safety for everyone."

According to the foundation's website, they hope to reschedule the concert and they'll have more info "in the next week or so."

Certainly seems like this was out of the Black Eyed Peas' control, but we can def see why fans would be PO'd.

What do U think about this? Do fans have the right to be pissed, even though the show was cancelled due to weather?

Shit happens to get over it.

I'm an Upper Westsider who was near the park at the time.
    .
The storm that came in and it was rough and it was lightening even BEFORE the rain started.
I saw people going to the park, but I said to my boyfriend, it might not happen because of the lightening storm. They even postponed a Yankees game, which may or may not have happened because of the storm and the rough winds that came through.
    .
Fans might have been pissed off, but it was free so what's it to them? Go home, dry off, hope for another day. Shit happens. Let's not be babies about it.
    .
    BEP are still fantastic!!!!

I was one of the concert goers yesterday. To be honest, it wasn't so much the cancellation that got everyone pissed. It was the complete lack organization on the part of the event organizers. It was a complete shit show to the point where groups of people were sent blocks away for no reason whatsoever.

Well I'm glad at least Britney was nice enough to her fans to not cancel her GMA performance and scheduled it for an actual venue. I think fans have the right to be pissed because New York has plenty of venues in which the show could have been rescheduled into.

That storm was nasty yesterday. Very quickly it went from a hot sunny day to high winds, dangerous lightening, and hail. There were tornado warnings which NYC doesn't take lightly anymore after a tornado tore through queens last year. You can't control the weather. Maybe next time.

I was there for the concert and I have to agree with tonezone…it wasnt so much the cancellation but the way that it all played out. At several times within the hours we were waiting, hundreds of people were running in traffic because the "line moved" to the opposite side of the street. No one knew what was going on throughout the day including event staff and NYPD. I'm sure this isnt the first time it's rained at central park during the concert series. I just hope that if they reschedule, they'll be more prepared than last time.

That's happened to me before. I was disappointed but not pissed off. People cannot endanger their lives by playing electric instruments in lightening storms.

the MAYOR canceled the show, nothing to do with the black eyed peas. i met them all and they were so nice and extremely talented singing acoustic for a bunch of people. also people werent waiting in extreme heat seeing as the police wouldnt let anyone in the park until 730 pm.

i was there with my friends last night, i agree with tonezone. there was such a lack of organization there. we ended up walking to shake shack a few blocks away to get food, we saw some cops that said the show already started, we walked back over to 72nd and CPW and were told it was cancelled. i hope if they reschedule it that they get their act together.

Stupid question! Of course they should cancel when the situation is unsafe!

If it's about safety, get over it.
