Sorry, Scott! Katie Couric's CBS Evening News Replacement Doesn't Bring In The Ratings

scott pelley doesnt bring in the ratings at cbs evening news

Looks like Katie Couric's replacement is JUST getting by…

Last month, we heard that 60 Minutes' Scott Pelley was taking over Katie's CBS Evening News anchor position, and we were feeling pretty good about it.

Now, Pelley has taken over, and his ratings aren't BAD at all…but they're not anything fantastic.

During his first week, Pelley averaged 5.7 million viewers, which matched Couric's average ratings for May. His ratings were a bit LOWER, though, than the average for Katie's substitute anchor Harry Smith.

Ah well! Hopefully he's able to maintain his current ratings at the very least.

Have U been watching Scott Pelley on CBS Evening News? Do U think he's doing a good job filling Katie's shoes?

Couric didn't exactly set the world on fire with her ratings, you idiot. She dropped the bar pretty low when it came to making people interested in the CBS News broadcast, and it's going to take Pelley a while to develop a following. I liked him on 60 Minutes, but will I watch him as news anchor? No. I'll stick with NBC Nightly News. Brian Williams FTW.

Maybe CBS should drop the news and pick up one of the canceled soap operas. Buy the rights to All My Children, General Hospital or One Life to Live. CBS lost its news viewership. People aren't going to go back to CBS when they've gotten used to getting their news from other sources, especially outside of TV broadcasting.

Really like Scott Pelley. Hope they keep him.

Katie Couric has face AND name recognition.
When Mr. Pelley was announced as her successor, I wondered "Who?"
I work on Sundays and don't get the chance to watch 60 Minutes. I don't know Mr. Pelley from Adam, so it's small wonder he's no rock star or ratings magnet.

Perez, stop changing your website to force us to click every post. It was ridiculously annoying the last time you tried, and it's just as annoying now.

he's a smug, arrogant bastard…nothing new but the usual news blowhard who thinks he knows more than any of his listeners…

So how stupid are you? Mainly CBS got rid of Couric because they were paying her $15M a year and the newscast was flatlining in ratings. Pelley is not getting that kind of money but he's a CBS lifer and Katie was not, and he's not perky, an adjective CBS News doesn't associate with being the anchor of the Evening News. He's serious, which is what they want. The person who commented he'd never seen Scott Pelley because he works on Sundays, and then goes on to use his personal circumstance to explain why Pelley is not a "rock star" should use his lunch break to read a logic textbook. Damn, what a waste the Internet can be.
