NBC Utah Affiliate Bans The Playboy Club

NBC's Utah affiliate channel KSL-TV has made a decision to not allow the network's new series, The Playboy Club, to air this fall, forcing the Peacock to find another station to carry the show for viewers this fall.

The channel, which has ties to the Mormon church, described the decision as being part of the station's "long-term policy to screen programming for material which significant portions of our audience might find objectionable."

The decision was announced this morning in a newscast (above), which featured a statement on behalf of KSL President and CEO Mark Willes, reading:

"The Playboy brand is known internationally. Everyone is clear what it stands for. We want to be sure everyone is clear what the KSL brand stands for, which is completely inconsistent with the Playboy brand."

Fair enough!

We're sure there will be some disappointed viewers in the Utah area hoping to get a chance to watch the new drama centering around a Chicago branch of Hugh Hefner's club in the 1960's, but hopefully NBC will find another outlet for the show.

There's always Hulu! Ha!

Check out the video above to hear the full statement explaining the conservative broadcaster's decision to not air the new series this fall.

Do U watch KSL-TV? If so, do U agree or disagree with the channel's decision not to air The Playboy Club?

Yeah I live in UT and therefore watch ksl….nothing like living in a state that was established on the basis of religious freedom to have your right to choose what you bring into your home trampled on. But we're talking about a station that still refuses to air SNL because its to "offensive".

Typical mormon bullshit. I suppose those who want to see the program can watch it on the internet.

I could see where Hugh's "Club" would play well in Miami and other places with members of the "Greatest Generation"…He is the consummate 80+ yr. old swinger! Salt Lake? i don't see it happening…

I live in Utah (moved here from the west coast) and this is totally the normal. One religion controls this entire state and makes decisions like this. As a liberal democrat, this place is torture and its shocking to see how a religion controls everything and no one does anything about it. It's really sad and oppressive - can't wait to get out of here soon.

You know, I live in Utah as well. I am not a Mormon, but I agree with KSL. Why do we need more crap like this on TV? Isn't what we have bad enough already? Let's face it - this kind of show only draws voyeuristic viewers - the easily amused and emotionally and intellectually numb. I am tired of networks pandering to this type of viewer constantly. I would really like to see something more worth watching - something that is interesting, creative, inventive, unique. Where are these shows?
