Mayor Bloomberg Lobbies Republican New York Senators To Vote 'Yes' On Same-Sex Marriage

| Filed under: Gay Gay GayPolitikInspirationLGBT

Do The Right Thing

In the wake of the New York Assembly passing a bill that would legalize same-sex marriage in the state, New York City's Mayor Michael Bloomberg paid a visit to Albany to lobby for a crucial tie-break vote on same-sex marriage on Thursday.

Although 31 senators have openly said they support the bill, there needs to be 32 votes of the 62 senators voting to pass the historic law.

The NYC mayor met behind closed doors at a gathering of Senate Republicans in the capital and urged them to view same-sex nuptials as a matter of individual liberty.

Unfortunately, he left without securing any commitments from senators to vote "yes" on equality, but it's the thought that counts!

Thanks, Bloomie!

The mayor said he has been specifically pressing Senators John Flanagan of Long Island, Mark Grisanti of Buffalo and Andrew Lanza of Staten Island to consider voting for same-sex marriage. We don't want to get our hopes up, but sources say two of them have suggested there is a good chance they will vote yes!

Considering he is one of the party's BIGGEST financial supporters, we're sure SOMEONE listened to what he had to say.

When asked for a comment, he told reporters:

“I can just tell you that people I know and people I respect believe in democracy and they believe in supporting candidates that they think are honest.”

So true! To all the senators mulling this decision over in their heads, please just do what you know in your heart is RIGHT! Vote "yes" and make New York the sixth state to allow marriage equality! You'll be making A LOT of people very, very happy!

Do U think that his efforts will be rewarded and the Senate will pass the bill legalizing same-sex marriage in New York?

Hope it's a yes, if you want to marry someone you should, no matter what sex it is (and the partner is willingly of course).

The only reason why these spineless dingleberries agree to this nonsense is because they know if some 'queen" gets mad at them for being "insensitive" their ass will be grass. They are afraid to lose appeal to this bunch of bullies called "gays". What a shame, talking about emasculated pricks!!! Fine example we have in all these cowards that call themselves "politicians"… ooppsss, I forgot… that is the definition of politicians today, gay loving, vote recruiting assholes!!!! Suits you Perez, a nation ran by cowards who are afraid of public opinions!!!! Bam!!!!

Re: bryanlizza – Wow, are you single? You must be a catch, MORON!!!! FIrst of all, "Gays" are not just men… gays are not just "queens" as you say….such a stereotype by the way…You do not have any idea how diverse the gay population is…not just fem men and masc. women…they are everywhere, you just do not know it, because they "blend in" with the so-called straights…Again, gays are political and take a stand for reasons that are serious-to have equal rights and to STOP the violence that can be directed towards them….so, yes people will be called out for being "insensitive"….Open your eyes and stop spewing your small minded crap. Thank you.

Re: bryanlizza – Also, regarding the "public opinion" that you tout, the majority of New Yorkers favor gay marriage. Get your facts straight before you spew hate about things you clearly know nothing about.

It's funny how you seem to be on this anti-gay agenda when I always thought that that was a drag queen in your avatar pic.

Astute politicians always follow the curve. That's not a bad thing when it does some good for the oppressed and doesn't appear to hurt anyone else. The more they look into this, the less they'll be afraid of voting for it. Education is key. The rest of the advanced countries have experienced few negative repercussions.
