311 Frontman Tells Terrifying Story Of Delivering Wife's Baby

| Filed under: Baby BlabberMusic Minute

We can't even imagine having to delivery a baby! Let alone, without a doctor or a midwife!

311's frontman Nick Hexum was forced to do just that when his wife suddenly went into labor.

He and his wife Nikki had planned on having a home birth for their second daughter, Maxine, but things went awry when she went into labor before her midwife arrived.

Having watch the birth of their first daughter, Echo, Nick wasn't afraid to dive right in and help his wife give birth.

He tells the terrifying and VERY graphic story of how it all went down:

"After Max's head popped out, the delivery stalled for the next couple of contractions. The baby's head was blue and the umbilical cord was wrapped around her neck. I was worried the cord was choking her, keeping blood from getting to her brain.

I knew from observing and listening the first time around that sometimes the baby's shoulder would get caught and they would have to reach in there and break its collar bone to free her. [I] felt the shoulders and rotated the baby back and forth.

I jiggled her around until I heard a 'wahhh!' It was an amazing moment. Everything was fine! We never went to the hospital. We just sat in bed laughing and crying tears of joy about what a crazy experience it was."

Incredible! Such a harrowing experience, but thankfully it turned alright and both momma, daddy, AND baby are fine!

Way to be a hero, Nick!

OMG. STFU. People have been DELIVERING BABIES FOR YEARS. Long before hospitals and doctors were nearby and there was no such thing as midwives. Let's not make a big deal out of something that goes on EVERY DAY ALL DAY LONG.

Oh how I heart Nick Hexum!!

Re: Pacific Ocean Gal – Seriously, that is your response to this? Wow… birth is the most natural experience until it starts going terribly wrong, and it sounds to me like they are extremely lucky.

I love this man and everything about him! *swoon*

omg that poor woman. I've given birth, doing it at home with no pain meds AND having complications? What a terrifying and painful experience. They should've gone to the hospital afterward though, just to make sure she and the baby were ok. That's not something to brag about. I'm all for home births if the woman is strong enough (and kudos for this woman for being able to do it. I couldn't that's for sure.) But even though people have been delivering at home for thousands of years, babies AND mothers DIED for thousands of years because of unseen complications as well. I wish he'd have said that they did get them both to a hospital or a doctor because it is important for aftercare after something like that.

He sounds CHEAP to me. Why can't he just fork over the money for her to have an epidural ???!!!!! I think he should have a vasetomy at home too!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: iloverickymartin – How was he being cheap? His wife went into early labor at home and it was progressing too quickly. He had no choice but to deliver the baby by himself with no medical experience. And the baby had the cord wrapped around her neck. Did you even read the story dumbass?

  9. 9

Umm if the cord was wrapped around the neck, why didn't he unwrap it instead of worrying about the baby choking? I agree with JennFrost, they should have had the baby checked out after the experience.

    WoW!!! That's an awesome post.

did anyone read this? she went into labor -before- the midwife showed up which is heavily implying the midwife was en route…so said midwife probably checked out both the mother and the baby and determined that they didn't need to go to the hospital.

Way to be a hero 'NIck?' You write as though HE did all the work and that HE had the terrifying experience. Good grief. Every woman on here is rolling their eyes.

  13. @v@ says – reply to this

Oops, forgot to say that HE also did a good job. : )

can you imagine what an idiot he would feel like if the baby had complications after delivery?

  15. 15

You make it sound like he invented the art of child delivery. Must make you sort of wonder how mankind has survived all this time, huh?

  16. 16

Re: alyssaj – They probably had plenty of time but he didn't want to fork over the money or time or convenience for his poor wife. The way he acts you would have thought he gave birth. He is an idiot.

  17. 17

Re: iloverickymartin – each woman has the right to deliver however she wants to. Why judge somebody for delivering the way its been done for centuries?

  18. 18

    Re: starstrukk47 – Dito!

  19. 19

Calling all geniuses: WOMEN HAVE BEEN GIVING BIRTH FOR AS LONG AS HUMANS HAVE BEEN ON THE PLANET! That is a bit longer than centuries or thousands of years. And MOST children born on earth today do so without the aid of a doctor in a hospital setting.

  20. 20

You are all fucking ignorant and retarded. They CHOSE as a COUPLE to have a home birth just as they had their first daughter. @Iloverickymartin YOU ARE A TOTAL AND COMPLETE INCOHERENT PIECE OF SHIT. Nick Hexum is MORE than wealthy and is NOT a cheap pig. They chose to do it that way because they are very natural people. The midwife was ON THE WAY to their house and she went into labor very suddenly. Why are you guys looking down upon the home birth when they decided they wanted to and this being the second time they did it. @RANCIDY If the cord is wrapped around the neck they usually have to do an emergency c section and most doctors have problems doing this procedure. UNLESS ANY OF YOU HAVE DELIVERED YOUR OWN CHILD UNEXPECTEDLY THEN SHUT THE FUCK UP. They didn't plan for this is was an emergency situation. You act like he tied her down and forced her to deliver the baby at home. You're all fucking ignorant haters. Like Nick Hexum says "Fuck they naysayers cause they DON'T MEAN A THING!!!" 311 FOR LIFE.
